  1. How far were you into the season when this started happening?

It's quite possible that opponents are now taking your team more seriously - especially if you started the season strongly and/or are above expectations. The AI cannot 'figure out' your tactic, but it can switch to a more defensive tactic, which might not give your attackers as much space as they probably had before.

This change usually happens about halfway through a season.

  2. This thread has long run its course, and SI really should have nipped it in the bud a long time ago. It really should have been closed after Santy and Rashidi explained very clearly that it doesn't happen in everyone's saves, and that player-controlled goalkeepers can overperform too.

But as ever, it's an arrogant and very vocal minority who insist that their experience of the game screwing them over is the same as everyone else's. What we have here is a bunch of self-entitled whining crybabies who will not take any responsibility for their decisions, and will literally blame SI and FM for every bad thing that happens in their saves.

They WILL NOT accept the fact - which has NEVER been disproven - that the ME cannot tell the difference between AI and human.

They WILL NOT consider the possibility that it might be their tactics leaving their defences vulnerable.

They WILL NOT bother to understand what "expected goals" really means. It's NOT how many goals a team should have scored in a game.

It's one thing that they will stick their fingers in their ears going "la la la I'm not listening la la la". But when their language turns into passive aggression towards the developers, and they get hostile towards any person who even dares to counter their arguments... that's not acceptable.

That should not be acceptable on these forums. But it appears that in 2024, abusive behaviour towards developers and other users isn't just tolerated on the SI Community - it's actively encouraged. And if this is the road SI and their (ahem) moderators are happy to go down, then it's not a community I want to be involved in anymore.

For the record, I did have problems with underperforming goalkeepers on my last FM24 save - with a team that was comfortably the best in the Polish 4th division. It wasn't that extreme (our shot conversion rate was actually higher than our opponents') but I was worried enough that I sought advice on the tactics forum. Our struggles were not because my tactics were too aggressive - if anything, I was perhaps too conservative.

Their advice helped, but not enough. I gave up on FM24, just as I'm about to give up on this toxic SI community.

  3. By all means stick your fingers in your ears and pretend that you're doing nothing wrong. But if your tactic is wildly aggressive and there's hardly anyone back to defend against counter-attacks, don't be surprised if you concede regularly.

I will admit again that goalkeepers on FM24 are not as reliable as they could be, but you cannot blame them for everything - especially not if your tactic is so defensively suspect.

Anyway, it's clear that the OP is just here for a moan now. They've given up posting PKMs (SI can't do anything with match stats screenshots), they refuse to post their tactics (even when prompted), and they're refusing to take ANY responsibility for ANY mistakes they might have made. We're just going around in circles now, and it's getting to the point where this bug report might as well be disregarded and the thread closed.

  4. Hellas Verona v Roma
59:50 - Verona's Gunter receives a pass just outside the Roma area, but then appears to back away from the ball. It is intercepted by Paredes, who starts a Roma counter-attack which leads to a goal.

    Roma v Napoli
41:05 - Roma right-back Kristensen crosses to Belotti, who barely moves as the ball is quickly intercepted by Napoli's Ostigard.

  5. Roma v Monza
86:50 - A cross from Monza's Vignato is cleared out of the Roma box by N'Dicka, but not before Pellegrini decides to head it for no obvious reason.

    Roma v Lecce
16:20 - Lecce defender Joan clears the ball out of the penalty area, and Roma forward Zalewski nods it out of touch for no reason.

    Inter v Roma
33:14 - A shot from Inter's Barella hits the crossbar. That is then followed by three consecutive headers from the Roma players Smalling, Sanches and Dybala, taking the ball from their penalty area to the centre circle.

    Torino v Roma
71:00 - Roma defender Kristensen heads the ball out of the penalty area, and Belotti decides to put in another header. I think he should clear it with his feet here.

    Frosinone v Roma
6:20 - Roma defender Mancini intercepts a clearance from Frosinone's Monterisi with a header, pointlessly giving the ball away to an opposition player.

    Napoli v Roma
50:45 - Goal kick from Roma goalkeeper leads to four consecutive headers around the halfway line from Zielinski (Napoli), Aouar (Roma), Ostigard and Kvaratskhelia (both Napoli).
84:55 - Napoli forward Raspadori scrambles the ball from his penalty area up to his team-mate Kvaratskhelia, who pointlessly heads it out left to no obvious target, leaving Roma with an easy interception.

Dude, you're essentially playing 4-2-4 with 3 forwards, a Trequartista who doesn't track back or press, a BWM (steps out of position to press), Carrilero (Moves wider) - so essentialy you have no midfiled, combined with 2 Ball-playing defenders (which attempt risky passes, to whom, as you basically have no midfield)? I bet you also have trigger press more often and high/very hugh LOE.

As CFuller said - it's your tactics.

Agreed. If you want your team to be defensively solid, then your most defensive-minded midfielder should never be a ball-winner.

Also, having two wing-backs can't be helping matters if they're both on Attack duties. At least I hope they're not both on Attack duties. That would basically leave just TWO outfield players staying back to deal with counter-attacks. No wonder the opposition scores so often from so few opportunities.

I can't give any more tactical advice until the OP shows their tactic in full - with roles, duties and instructions. Even then, they are probably better off posting it in the Tactics forum, so that more folks over there can help them figure out what's going wrong.

  7. Roma v Milan

68:20 - After Calabria clears the ball towards touch, Roma forward Dybala tries to keep the ball in play with a header, which is then - I think - cleared behind by another unnecessary header from another Milan player. I wish I could explain this in more detail, but the highlight keeps cutting out whenever I try to review it.

  8. Roma v FC Kobenhavn

55:40 - Jelert swings a ball into the Roma box, where his Kobenhavn team-mate Elias heads it over the bar. Roma's goalkeeper Patrício comes up to try and meet the cross but makes no attempt to try and save it, even if it is missing the target.

    Roma v Milan

51:05 - As Milan's Calabria fires a shot into the net, Roma's goalkeeper Svilar makes no attempt to save the shot, instead charging out of his six-yard box for no obvious reason.

Do you need more examples, @Zachary Whyte?

  9. Udinese v Roma

9:35 - N'Dicka heads the ball out of Roma's penalty area. Udinese forward Thauvin - who is just outside the area - runs away from the ball, which hits him on the head. He then turns around, takes the ball, and fires in the opening goal.

I appreciate that some of these incidents are perhaps more animation-related than AI-related, but they are becoming quite frequent and annoying now. Are you still investigating these, @Zachary Whyte? Do you need more PKMs?

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with tactics. I can tell even without knowing the guys tactics. Something is wrong with the amount of goals and the way they are scored. So many examples, but still amazing that so many users obviously dont think, that this is a problem. Apparently people are more interested in excitement than realism. And still SI refuse to realize and look in to the issue

Okay... here are some screenshots from my save.

Sarkic isn't a great goalkeeper by any means ("decent EFL Championship") but he performed well for me in my save, preventing 4 more goals than 'expected'. It also helps that I had a solid backline, protected by an actual defensive midfielder (a half-back or a DM, not a ball-winning midfielder). In most games, we didn't give up too many good opportunities - rarely more than 0.15 xG per shot.

Though we did have the odd battering, we still finished the season with a respectable 56 goals conceded in 46 league games, and an opposition conversion rate of less than 12%. At the other end, our shot conversion rate was just over 15%, which ruins the popular narrative that the AI needs fewer chances to score than you do.

I won't deny that goalkeepers - AI-managed or human-managed - are perhaps not as reliable on FM24 as they could be. But if you're conceding from about 1 in 5 shots (if not more), and most of the chances you're giving up are higher-quality chances, then you need to take a closer look at your tactics. I'm NOT saying it is definitely your tactics, but you cannot just dismiss that possibility out of hand.
