  1. Haven't decided where I'll play this time around. I hesitate between Greece (we'll be visiting next year!) and Portugal (with a 4 tier system and playing alongside @Thebaker would be a nice bonus...!). So far, I'm holidaying both and will likely pick a spot in the next few days...

  3. Turns out that Bertalan Végh is indeed a superstar, but Istvan Süli kinda stopped progressing at 19 and eventually I cashed out on him for 15-20M€ and now he's lingering elsewhere.
  4. Cash to spend, you say....? Here is my current balance and transfer budget in Dunaujvaros... I have too much money, can't spend it all!
  5. Alright, I'm coming to a close on that save with FM24 around the corner, but it's going with a bang. First in the world, after winning our second Champions League in 3 years. I guess my job there is done! The Squad
  6. At 31k seats, this is the largest stadium in Hungary by ~10k seats... Our previous stadium was an expansion of the starting one, it is now at 20k seats, but with terracing so we still have to move out during Champions League matches.
  7. First time this ever happened to me in all my FM saves: the club names the new stadium after me!
  8. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2037-2038 | Season 15 | CHALLENGE COMPLETED: Well, that was easy...! Well that was easy... The only thing I needed to do to complete this challenge was to sign Erling Haaland! But I actually think I skipped one update, in 2036/37... But it was a fairly calm year, apart from the insane goal difference in the league (+90... 103 for, 13 against). In the Champions League, we beat PSG, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid (with an insane 120th minute goal in Madrid to break a 0-0 deadlock over 2 legs) before crashing against Liverpool in the semi-Final. They were just better than us. Which actually brings me to this year... Transfers The obvious one is that I noticed that Erling Haaland had decided to evaluate his options at the end of his current contract with Manchester City. Yes, 37 year old Erling Haaland who scored only 23 goals across all competitions for him and was falling off their team. I decidded that I would go for him, offered a generous contract for the size of my club and he actually signed with us, against all odds. I was expecting a decline in his physicals, but I figured he would be able to do the job quite well for us and offer a nice complement to Elliot Leveque playing in front. Turns out that I underestimated him. Over the course of the season, he lost 1 point in Acceleration and Pace, but for the rest he was still insane, 15 years in the future. He went on to score 44 goals, including 10 in the Champions League and 26 in the domestic league (in 15(7) appearances!) who had never been that terrified in a striker before. Apart from him, I mostly signed kids for the future, but notably made 285M€ in transfers out of the club, some I was willing to and some who twisted my arm a bit. Champions League There were quite a few close calls in this one. In the League Phase, we played great, winning 6 matches and drawing the two remaining, finishing on top of the League for the first time ever. We did have a fairly easy draw, but a 2-0 win against PSG and draws against Manchester United and Tottenham were pretty good. We then drew Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 and, in a very typical fashion this time, we lost 1-0 away, before coming back with a convincing 3-1 at home. In the Quarter Final, we got Barcelona and, again, 1-0 loss at Camp Nou before coming back with a great, great 3-0 win at home. The Semi-final was drawn against Juventus, where we proceeded to lose 1-0 again in Torino. This time, the comeback was harder, forcing overtime with an 90th minute goal and getting through on penalties, with 3 saves by the best keeper in the world (who happens to be playing for us...!). In the final, we were facing off Manchester United, whom we had drawn 1-1 in the League Phase. It turned out to be a pretty even match, with everyone getting their chances and us dominating in the second half. Turns out that we didn't push hard enough and this all went to penalties. Patrick Atlebäumer, once again, came up big and saved the day on two occasions to get us a nerve-wracking win. The Team I'll go a bit more in details about the team in a recap-y like mode, showing the team of the year, but also going back over the save a little bit, in another post coming up. Other News I'm having a problem, I can't spend enough money. I had 567M€ in the bank balance at some point. We sit in 4th place in the European club coefficients (behing Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and in front of Manchester United). With an underwhelming season dropping off next year, we can realistically push to 2nd spot if we perform well. Next best team is Vasas in 60th place. Ferencvaros has dropped massively, only qualifying for Europe 2 times in the last 5 years (and doing pretty badly). Hungary is still 9th in the nations coefficient league, other clubs never really doing anything in Europe. We're still playing in our original stadium, which just got expanded now to 22603 (14k seats), but the board is finally looking to build a new one (32k seats), but will probably take a while, nothing is formally announced at the moment.
  9. Just for fun, here are a few of the best newgens that I have in my save. Eddie Farr is currently the only player with a 4.5 star world reputation, a legendary winger who came from the Freiburg academy and has been tearing it up in the Liverpool squad for a few years already. Ivan Delgado is the highest earner in the save, with 750k€ per week (!) at Atletico Madrid (!!). He's too good for La Liga and has not scored less than 25 goals (across all competitions) for the last 8 seasons. Givanildo Henrique is, by far, the save's most highest valued player at 324M€ - 388M€, bossing the midfield at Liverpool. Signed for 20M€ in 2030, he's been just OK over the last few seasons and I'd never pay 300M€ for him. Cristopher Kuri is probably one of the most terrifying strikers to play against, at Bayern. At 27 years old, with 114 caps and 133 goals, he's likely the most prolific international player. Consistent as a metronom in the Bundesliga, he's insanely productive with Mexico... For the record, Haaland in my save has 146 goals in 150 caps with Norway at 35 years old. Kuri is only 27... and playing in CONCACAF, so plenty of landslide wins against Haiti, Curaçao and the likes of Trinidad and Tobago... Finally, probably the most highest rated keeper in the world at the moment, Sten Van de Looi, playing at Manchester City. Fun reminder, we put 6 past this guy in two legs in the Champions League Quarter final this year. Averaging less than one goal per game in the Premier League and with the 2033/34 season where he raked in 36 clean sheets across al competitions... He's rather good at football, I think. Well, this guy is not a regen, but I heard he's pretty good. Well, that was fun... Who's your most spectacular regens in your save?
  10. He was actually featured in the best players in the world, at the 42nd place, if I remember correctly. There are a few completely insane regens in my save, whose values are around 250-300M€, with around 500k€ per week... I'll send a few screenshots just for fun later.
  11. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2035-2036 | Season 13 | Step by step (oh baby!) I'll try to be brief on this update, as I've been holding on to my game until i wrote this report (and I really want to keep on advancing!) Transfers Again, a year where the out column is pretty filled in. It is, however, filled with players I'm just cashing out. The two notables are Bruno Laborda, which broke - shattered! - the transfer record for someone out of Hungary. I did sign him for 5 M€ in 2032, because he seemed too good to pass up. In two full seasons with us, he got 40 goals in 59 matches and added a 0 at the end of his weekly salary, so I wasn't able to compete with that. Also, 80 M€. You will also notice Marcelo Gadea, which I haven't talked much about, but was our starting keeper since 2031 and he offered us 4 great seasons, cementing himself as the starting keeper for Uruguay at the tender age of 19. He was good, but there were a couple of other good options floating around so when Bayern decided to come forward with substantial money, I decided to make a move. it's been somewhat of a mistake as Cristian Rosa, his replacement, got injured a few times in the season. I _think_ I was just unlucky, but Luis Cid, who was signed as a promising backup, got quite a bit more playtime than he had expected... including having to field a 16 year old youngster in the Champions League Quarter Final against Manchester City because Rosa was injured for 2-3 weeks. On the way in, apart from the goalkeeper situation, it's been mostly lottery tickets and cover for the first team, with the notable exception of Héritier Ndzila (yes, I name him Godzilla in my head). He's been doing a pretty great job in the center of the defence and is progressing tremendously. Champions League A pretty great result this year in the Champions League, losing our first game only in the round of 16 against Real Madrid, but overcoming that defeat in dramatic fashion in extra time with a 5-2 win at home. Then came probably the biggest ever result of that save, an emphatic win away to Man City in a match that I was dreading. They had eliminated us over the course of previous continental competitions and turns out that this game was a complete domination by our guys, even without the 20th minute red card they suffered. And that is with my 16 year-old keeper getting the start. We managed the game in the second leg, en route to a 7-1 aggregate win against the best club in Europe, they were ranked 1st in the coefficient table by a rather comfortable margin... We then came back to earth against a very strong Arsenal side (5th in Europe) and couldn't quite get it done. We lost a closely fought 2-leg tie, but ultimately conceding in the 89th minute in the first leg was what cost us. Still, Semi Final in the UCL, that's the farthest we've been and with a bit more luck, we were through to the final. Things are going well, trust the process. League A vintage season in the Hungarian League, probably our most dominant one ever. 30 wins, 3 draws. But most notably, we conceded only 9 goals during the entire season of 33 games. Yes, a single digit goal allowed season, I didn't think I'd see that one day. The Squad Without going into too much details, let's look at a few standouts from this year's squad, which is pretty much in continuity from previous year's. Elliot Leveque - The Belgian star did pout a bit when large teams wanted to come for him, but he was under a long enough contract and I decided to have him wait it out. He eventually come to his senses, stop being unhappy and renewed for a few more years with us, rewarding us with 39 goal contributions in 40 appearances. Eduardo Neyra - Our new threat up top, a bit one-dimensional player, but it's been working well this year for him. He ended up being our main goal scorer with 27 goals, including a few heroic goals in continental competitions as you've seen above. Victor - Not great on the rating side of things, but this ball winning midfielder coming from our academy now has caps for Spain at 20 years old (and is sad because I don't let him leave for PSG...) Marko Bozic - A rock in our defence, he doesn't let anyone go through. Summary table Year Season League Position Media Pred Points Goal Diff Cup Europe Europe Ranking Avg. 12. And this is why we do these saves. #2 and #7 are both products of our Youth Academy. Future is looking bright...!
  13. Yup, trust the process. I don't feel we're quite there yet, the first team is getting pretty good, but I feel that we are missing a bit of depth in the squad to be able to cover for injuries, suspensions and other assorted surprises that the game throws our way. In other news, the board has FINALLY decided to invest some money in our stadium, going from a 10000 capacity to 11500, hopefully they'll be adding seats too, as we have 8000 people that comes on terracing, but that's not working for Champions League games, so our capacity is limited at 2000 for these matches (there is a bug in the game where this constraint is missing for the UCL group stage, so we don't move stadiums during that time).
  14. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2034-2035 | Season 12 | Trying to push to the top... Transfers The story of not having a high enough reputation to held our players keeps being true again this year, I hope that it starts to resolve soon - there are early signs of it - but in the meantime we took another plunder this year, as our strikers got raided pretty hard... Luis Fernando had been kicking a fuss about wanting to play more, but he was clearly unhappy and trying to move on. It was a shame, as he was our most profilic scorer in the first half of the season, with 20 league goals in 14(5) appearances, so when Villareal came knocking I decided to move him on to make sure he didn't bring the team dynamics down with him. Mostly because I had Lenon Damato, but I forgot that the only way I was able to get him here in the first place was to grant him a 15M€ release clause. I tried to renegotiate the contract, upping that to ~30M€, but Gladbach came in with an offer matching the clause and he's gone. He's my first player who was described as "World Class" for a little time and he was averaging 1 goal per game across all competitions. he is now worth 120M€ in Gladbach and I am still a bit sad about it. The offer that came in for Benjamin Carcamo Varela was in the too good to refuse category, there was a small bidding war and I was able to get the fee up to 26M€ + 30% going over to Aston Villa, where he did score 10 goals in the Premier League this year, in 15(13) apps, so not a bad move for him, in a side that is competing for European places year in year out in the Prem. Not bad (and he's now paid 84k€ p/w, a nice 8 times more than with me...) Antonio Velazquez was more often than not a rotational player in our defence, probably our 3rd best center-back, so a 26M€ deal for him was a pretty good deal. In the In column, mostly youngsters and lottery tickets, but José Chacon who finished his season on loan in his club in Costa Rica really looks like a winner at advanced playmaker up front and a great deal for 54k€... Competitions - League I'm trying to get some of our players out on loan over to the other Hungarian sides, to help them perform, but I'm still rolling through the league without any concerns. Conceding 13 goals throughout the whole year, including with some pretty heavy rotation towards the end is rather impressive. Funny note, Lenon Damato ended up the 4th best striker in the competition, despite playing only 12 games with us this year (16 goals). Competition - Champions League We had a pretty strong League Phase, with only hiccup being a 1-2 loss against PSG in Paris and a 0-0 draw at home against Barcelona, but all in all, very impressive displays. (side-note, our stadium doesn't respect the minimum requirements, but there is a bug which was fixed in March (on new saves) which make us play there regardless. So we have 2000 seats instead of the 8000 minimum, losing quite a bit of money in the process). This was enough to get us 19 points, and a very nice 6th place in the League table. Our reward was a matchup against Gladbach (who had signed Lenon Damato from us by then), which we drew 1-1 away in Germany, which had us quite hopeful for the second leg, which ended in a very very even 2-1 win for us. Revenge against Damato! The next round got us drawn against Manchester City, and they've shown that they are not in the same class as us (no wonder they are ranked 1st in the world in the club coefficient list). They beat us 2-1 in Hungary, in a match where de defended quite well and won 3-2 on the return leg, in a match where they were the better side, without any doubt. At 34 years old, Erling Haaland is still scoring 30 goals across all competitions, but he's showing some signs of slowing down, at least in the Premier League. The Squad With some of this movement, we ended up the year with a smaller squad than expected, but I'm quite happy with the talent level that we have. Keep in mind that, at this point, we are 19th in the world, so 4 star is pretty good and 5 star potential is pretty great. Up front This is the strength of this team and where I was able to get most of the talent. Elliot Leveque - AMR/ST - 29 goals, 18 assists, 6 PoM Largest ever signing in Hungary at 30.5M€, the young Belgian international was in the too good to pass up category. After a slow(er) start, he picked up is stride and was ever present for us, both when scoring or assisting. At 39k€ p/w, he is also the highest earner at the club, but I don't regret it one bit (see screenshot of finances at the end... Spoiler, we're doing fine!) Bruno Laborda - AML/ST - 31 goals, 11 assists Became our main man up front when Damato left, he got us 31 goals and was a good complement to Leveque, either when playing up front or on the left wing. In his second full season with us, I can now say that he was a 5M€ well spent. Eduardo Neyra - AM(RC) / ST - 19 goals, 15 assists He's the future of this team up front, with already 19 caps and 7 international goals at only 19 years old, he can play both as a shadow striker, up front or on the right. Marko Bozic - DC - 34(2) apps, 2 goals, 7.18 avg. rating. Came in on 11.25M€ from Red Star Belgrade, he was an integral part of the defense, at all levels. He marks well, heads well, is always well positioned and works hard (and is a big Serbian dude defender, which is a plus in itself!), he has been great for us, in a defense that doesn't see that much action throughout the course of the season. https://imgur.com/a/A1LSFQV The Youngsters Knocking on the First Team's door Victor - DM - 30 apps, 3 goals, 4 assists, 7.09 avg. rating He came through my youth intake a few seasons ago and has been battling for a starting job this year (which he is going to get next year for sure), he is the local boy I've been cheering for all year. He's not yet good enough to earn great ratings at the European level, but I'll keep playing him and I have a feeling that he'll get there. https://imgur.com/a/vTtREfx Bertalan Végh - DC - 28(10) apps, 4 goals, 1 assist, 7.01 avg. rating At only 17, he's already a Hungarian international and has been developing like crazy over the past year. Attributes: https://imgur.com/a/b5tf1Ai Development (not quite safe for work) Istvan Süli - DR He's been on the fence of the first team, used as a rotational player but getting plenty of sub appearances at only 16 years old. https://imgur.com/a/wJzY6Ci Other News With 286M€ in bank and a 168M€ transfer budget, I don't think I'll have to worry about money for a little while... My biggest problem is spending it. We've won our 8th Magyar cup in a row, while rotating very heavily. (yes, it's in the Other News category now) Other Hungarian Clubs in Europe Mol Féhervar: Did not get through the UCL Qualifying rounds, knocked out by Istanbul Basaksehir FK. They went on to qualify in the Europa League League Stage (after finishing 22nd), before losing to FC Groningen 2-1 on a very disappointing showing. Vasas: Great showing in the Europa League League Path, with a 10th place finish, won their knockout round against Craiova, then lost in the round of 16 against a very strong Newcastle team, 5-0. Vasas failed to have a single shot on target over the two rounds... Gyori ETO: Knocked out in the Conference League Qual round against SC Freiburg (who is playing the Final!), in a somewhat close match. Mezokovesd: Got through the Conference League League (18th!), dominated Olympiakos in the Knockout Round, then lost to St-Étiene in the round of 16 (who are also through to the final). Ferencvaros, the historically biggest club in Hungary, has been missing in Europe last year (and will also miss this year). They've been in all kinds of bad form over the last 2 years and if we want Hungary to get somewhere as a footballing nation, they'll have to sort themselves out at some point). Youth intake: There are 2 somewhat promising AMC's but nothing like Victor and Végh. We'll see if they feature here, but at worse, they'll feature in a good Hungarian side at some point. We're the 12th club in the world and Hungary will actually get 6 clubs in Europe next year, as we're 6th in the coefficient table. We'll really need to have the other sides start to show up now, though to keep up with the pace. We're still only 9th league in terms of reputation, though, that takes a while to rise! We'll need European silverware at some point to push that even higher. Summary table Year Season League Position Media Pred Points Goal Diff Cup Europe Europe Ranking Avg. 15. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2033-2034 | Season 12 | Back to reality... After a surprising, unexpected and rather tumultuous run in the Champions League last season, I expected this year to be a bit of a reality check (and we were somewhat served in that regards....) Transfers The trend continues of having a striker getting a good year, then being noticed by other teams, then having to sell them for rather big money when a big reputation club comes in. In orther to counteract this, the best I've found was just to keep a steady stream of young strikers coming in and plugging them in the formation as others leave. So, coming in is a very promising Peruvian wonderkid Eduardo Neyra, who cand both play up front and on the right wing. He's not great in the air, but over the course of his 18(15) appearances, he managed 23 goal contributions. You can see him in more details below, but he will turn out to be an absolute steal. Another key signing that featured in the first team quite a bit this year was Francisco, a 19 year-old from Malaga which I bought to plug a hole in at left-back. He was good this year, he'll be awesome next year. Final signing is Lenon Damato, coming in on a free transfer from Brazil, in a too good to be true kind of transfer. We are now very overloaded in front, people will have to move during the offseason for sure. In the Out category, two big names. First of all, smashing our transfer record is Juan Britos. After two good seasons, he was remarked by ~15 clubs and eventually Bayer Leverkusen won the bidding war. I'm not even mad against him, he netted us 53M€ and, on a personal level for him, went from a salary of 10k€/w to 155k€/w. He did great in the Conference League (8 goals in 7 matches), but not so much in the Bundesliga (5 goals in 15 apps). I'm convinced he'll do great in the end, but it's a bit sad to lose him. Also going out is José Rivera who got a great move to Eintracht Frankfurt after getting the season of his life (17 goals in 13 apps in the first half of the season in the league), albeit against sometimes weaker sides, he was falling out of the pecking order with the new guys coming in so a 41M€ move was just too good to turn down. Thank you for your service José, I wish you the best for the future. Europe - Champions League After last years's miracle run, this year we were not as lucky. Good results in the league stage against Dortmund, PAOK and Villareal, we somehow played level with Man City away, and just dropped it against Benfica and Herta Berlin. A disappointing 18th result in the league phase got us against Napoli and the magic didn't come up and we ended up losing on penalties after salvaging the two-way tie. Disappointing year then in Europe with what I consider now a rather early exit. League It's a formality now, but it was an interesting/disastrous season, who got their first win of the season after 24 matches (out of 33!). They were rock bottom for most of the year and somehow salvaged their year by winning their last 6 to climb up the standing and manage survival. Cup Even more of a formality at this point, so much that it doesn't deserve a screenshot. I got the softest draw in the history of soft draws, getting a second division team in the semi-final and all the bigger teams. The Squad Despite playing only a half season, José Rivera ended up almost being our top scorer across all competitions, with 21 goals in 22 matches. Good season all around, with ratings wihch reflect the fact that we were generally pretty dominating on average. But we need to take the step up to win what we,re all after. The Guys Eduardo Neyra - ST - 19 year old - ST - 13 goals, 10 assists in 18(15) apps - 7.26 avg. rating Our peruvian wonderkid, great mentals, good in front of the net and quick enough. he's been training and improving like a madman and has the will to go along with it. He's going to feature prominently next year. Lenon Damato - ST - 12(2) apps, 8 goals, 3 assists Perfectionist Wonderkid from Brazil, what's not to like...? Came in after Britos was sold, was eased into the team and scored 8 in 12 games. He's on a star player contract (that's how I got him on a free transfer), so he'll get to play a lot next year too...! Istvan Suli - DR - 15 years old I got a gem (well, a very delicate gem with 2 strength) in this year's youth intake. He's already played a few games with the first team and if he lives up to the potential, he's going to be probably awesome. Now, puberty needs to hit and he needs to grow up a quite a bit. Other News 96M€ in the transfer budget, 1M€/w under the wage budget - I think I just need to splash the cash more. But then, the problem becomes the reputation of the Hungarian league as a whole, which limits the pool of large signings that we can make. Other Hungarian sides in Europe Vasas - Knocked out in the CL Qualifying round against Rangers, then fizzled out in 29th in the League Phase of the Europa League Gyori ETO - didn't perform well in the Europa League League phase, coming 33rd. Ferencvaros - Despite their horrendous performance in the league, they reached the knockout round of the Conference League, knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen. Szeged 2011 - Completely out of their depth at this level, got knocked out in the qualifying rounds of the Conference League against Bodo Glimt. Board still doesn't want to upgrade the stadium, we fill it only at 60-70% on league matches (10k places, but only 2k seated). There is a bug in the CL group stage which makes us play in our stadium despite it being under the 8k seat lower limit for the competition. Missing out on some gate receipts because of that... 16. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2032-2033 | Season 10 | Crazy upset... After a trip to the Round of 16 in the Champions League last year and a very eventful transfer season where we saw the new generation of players coming in. We were hoping do to as much damage this year and go one step farther in Europe too. Transfers In One of the long-term things I want to fix is the lack of homegrown players, which forced us in a dire situations when it comes to squad depth on European competitions. Since the plan is to continue to feature well in these competitions in the future, it is something that we need to address starting now. So, in that optic, Bruno Laborda (more detail on him below), Marko Bozic and Luis Fernando came in to the team young and will qualify as home-grown in club/nation down the line (provided I keep a hold of them!). In an effort to get more depth at center back, I found Fernando Silva who had played 3 seasons for us between 2028 and 2031 before going to Torino (for 2.3M€ and then not really playing there) and Caen where i bought him for 1.8M€. Turned out that he played most of the year in and out. In the Out column, there are two familiar names. The first is Predrag Manojlovic, which was our starting right winger, a favorite of the club but fell down a bit in the pecking order with the arrival and emergence of Juan Britos. Same with Karim Konaté, which was our starting striker for the past few seasons, I decided to cash out while he still was still worth something. 4.4M€ isn't the world, but it was better than losing him on nothing or keeping him on the team while he was unhappy with his playing time. Europe - Champions League With the improvements to the standing of Hungarian league, we qualified directly as a seeded team in the Champions Path Playoff, getting against Shakhtar Donetsk, getting to a 5-4 win on aggregate which was much harder than it should have been. In the League Phase, we managed to squeeze in to 15th place, with 4 wins (Nice, Rapid Wien, Pananthaikos and Villareal), a disappointing draw against LASK and defeats/blowouts against Bayern Munich, Barcelona and AS Roma. Not too shabby, but it shows that we're still quite a way apart from the top teams. This put us in the knockout round as a seeded team, facing Ajax. After a 1-0 loss at home, we overturned it with a very, very convincing 3-0 wine in Amsterdam (with 2 disallowed goals too!). In the Round of 16, we completely shut down Atletico Madrid, with a 3-0 win at home, holding to the ball 57% of the time. We managed to hold on to the lead in the second leg, only losing 1-0 in Madrid. Next up was Liverpool, which was top of the Premier League at the moment (rocking Eddie Farr, one of the top regens in the world, worth at 375M€, and Mukoko, notably). First leg was a 1-2 defeat at home, in which we weren't _totally_ run off the field. On the return leg, we managed to squeeze in a goal at the 73rd minute to tie things and send the tie to extra time. Then, this happened. Yup, a 120th minute winner, on our second shot of the match. Against all odds, we were up in Champions League Semi-Final, against Manchester City and, this time there was no magic against Erling-cheat-code-Haaland. A 2-3 defeat at home and a 3-0 defeat going to Manchester. We were clearly not in the same league and not as lucky this time. League Continued dominance in the league, as expected. In this case, I'm actually proud of the improvement in the defensive record, with only 14 goals against between all matches. Cup We now set the record for 36 matches in a row without losing, from September 2027 up to May 2033, making this our 6th title in a row. Squad As you can see, lots of rotation this year, especially up front, as I had a hard time to please the playing time of everyone, which kinda explains the sale of Karim Konaté. Individual Highlights Juan Britos - ST - 16 goals, 12 assists, 7.41 avg. rating Britos has been alternating between playing at striker and on the right wing as an inside forward and was very successful in both positions, both scoring and bringing others into play. He's been attracting interest from large clubs, but not quite the top dogs, so when I rejected bids he started pouting a bit, but was happy with a price tag of 38M€, which is a bid that didn't come yet. I'm really hoping that I can keep a hold of him as he's been great and keeps on developing. Bruno Laborda - AML/ST - 11 goals, 2 assists, 7.20 avg. rating Having some fear of losing Juan Britos in the winter and seeing that this guy was available, I decided to make an offer and he has slotted very well on the left side of the pitch, when experimenting with a Raumdeuter, which is a role I rarely used in FM in the past. I kinda wish his work rate was a bit higher, but he'll do the job pretty well regardless. He is now our highest earner at the club, so he better play like it. Marko Bozic - DC - 3 goals, 1 assist, 7.05 avg. rating At only 19, Marko Bozic is one for the future. Solid defender, works hard, marks well. He's not quite to the level where i would need him for Champions League purposes, but I'm confident that he'll get there (and will be home grown at that time). Gaston Bautista - DMC - 3 goals, 7 assists, 7.12 avg. rating He's our general in the midfield, controlling the play and passing balls left and right and doing that at only 19-20 years old. He is going to be home grown at the end of next year and is already a regular starter and looking very good now. Marcelo Gadea - GK - 28 clean sheets in 44 apps Our first choice keeper for a two years now, he's been developing very well and has been Uruguay's starting goalkeeper for three years now and he has everything I like in a good keeper: aerial reach, reflexes and good handling. Youth Intake Yes, there is something to talk about it, this year! Bertalan Végh is a very good centre-back prospect, who is lacking a bit in the physical side of his game, but already has some pretty good technical abilities for a 15 year old. From last year's intake, Victor is a very promising ball-winning-midfielder who has already been playing on and off with the first team this year. Ignore the red arrows, he's been progressing very well so far! Other Hungarian sides Vasas: Playoff of Europa League, squeezed in at 24th in the Conference League League phase and eliminated in the knock-off round against Wolfsburg Mol Féhérvar: CL League Path Playoff defeat against Slavia Prague, Round of 16 of the Europa League against Marseille. Not a bad result for them. Ferencvaros: 4th Qualifying round of the Conference League by Braga. Very poor year for them. MTK Budapest: 3rd Qualifying Round of Conference League by Feyenoord. Poor result too. We have one more place next year, along with an automatic spot in the CL group stage (for us), so I hope that things are going to pick up now. I actually have quite a few players on loan in our division, in an attempt to bring up the level of Hungarian football... Remalho is actually our record signing at the club (10M€!) who didn't adapt well to playing with us, so I gave him a chance at Ferencvaros and he's been playing great over there. Good for him! 17. Things are going well for Hungarian football. How Newcastle jumped up 11 positions in that ranking is actually beyond me... I just looked at it and they got rid of a year where they did not qualify for any European competition (and thus, 0 coefficient points) and did very well in all years after that.
  18. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2031-2032 | Season 9 | The One in which the other teams found our players After that good run in the Europa League, our reputation increased slightly (it's at 3 stars at the beginning of the season, which puts us around the likes of Dynamo Kyiv, Dukla Prague, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Slovan Liberec), which puts us in a prime territory for being picked apart by bigger clubs in more reputable clubs and leagues. Despite all that you are going to read in the following update, it's one of my favourite points in this kind of save, as it forces us to double down on scouting, finding these gems and hoping that we can fend them off. Without further ado... Transfers Yeah, the Out section si pretty sizable... Let's focus on the ones which are more notable. Yury Titov - Defensively minded MC - 4M€ to Wolfsburg After 3 great seasons with us, Yury grew unsettled and wanted more of everything. When Wolfsburg came in for 4M€, he wanted to tear down the locker room, so off he went. Too bad, he was homegrown at club and was helping us quite a bit in Europe. He's now a sub (0 starts, 13 subs) for Wolfsburg on a 6.72 avg. rating. Nicolas Gonzalez - Starting GK - 18.25M€ to Bayer Leverkusen After two strong seasons, Nicolas was starting to attract attention, notably due to his 22 clean sheets in 51 matches (20 in 25 in the league!) and a few clubs went in for him and this very much smashed the transfer record. He's on a 6.18 avg. rating in all competitions at Bayer despite a clean sheet. I really hope he does well there, but with the emergence of Marcelo Gadea (who was signed in the previous season) I think was a pretty good transfer for us. Kathelo Jacobs - DM - AML - 14.5M€ to Crystal Palace He's been a victim of my two seasons in a row without posting an update as he's been playing in a somewhat rotational role (26(11) apps, 4 goals 9 assists, 7.12 avg. rating), but had tons of potential, ticks all the right boxes and was the first player which we've had formally described as a Wonderkid. He's going to be great I think, if he's given the proper training. Having signed him for 500k€ from Sundowns in South Africa, it's a nice 14M€ profit for us after only one season turnaround. Other outs (see previous post) Diego Otegui - Our starting DLP - 16.75M€ to Herta Berlin Siyabonga Tyhali - Star DC- 3.9M€ to Barcelona (release clause) Junior - Starting AML - 12.25M€ to Southampton (release clause) Transfers IN Due to struggles in registration for continental competition, where i essentially played the Europa League run with a first XI, two subs and the rest of the bench filled with the U18s, I made a conscious effort to focus on players which are 18 and which would actually eventually qualify for the glorious HGN tag which was oh-so-needed. I have also been trying to sign players whom I would be loaned in domestically to help improve the other sides in Hungary. Here are the standouts as of the end of 2032. Ales Dukic - D-M-AMC - 1.4M€ from Koper I have been playing him at a variety of places in the midfield, but, most recently as a Regista/DLP/RPM/Segundo Volante as I've been transitioning to 2 defensive midfielders. Great passing and technique, he's also been fielding in at AMC when needed and may indeed be where he settles in the team. I'm curious to see where you would play him. At 20 years old, he already has 3 Slovenian caps and comes out on a 8 goals and 7 assists half-season for us. Pablo Mendez - AMC -ST - 5M€ from Estudiantes (LP) - Argentina He's been recommended to us as a striker, but due to the competition in the spot, I've been playing him mostly as an AMC, sometimes as a playmaker role, sometimes in an attacking midfielder role, and the 19 year old has been rewarding us well, with 3 goals and 5 assists in 16 apps. He's definitely not quite to the level that we need on a continental level, but I am hopeful that he'll get there. Juan Britos - AMR-ST - 9.75M€ (including clauses) from Racing Club (Argentina) He's our next star up front and is now our top earner at the club (13k€ pw).I'm almost expecting that we'll get a large bid for Karim Konaté or Juan Rivera and we'll want to be ready when this comes. In his half-season with us, he's been playing a mix of AMR and Striker when needed, doing great in both places. I think he's going to be great (my staff does too!) and he's certainly going to feature heavily next year. Gaston Bautista - MC-DM - 4.7M€ from Nacional (Uruguay) Another good looking midfielder, on the DLP-ing type whom I signed as I was looking to add a bit more depth in that part of the team. He's now picked up playing at defensive midfielder role, and looking forward to see what he'll be able to do next year. League Again a season in which we never looked back. In this case, we weren't as dominant in the league as two years ago, but we're way above the quality of the league at the moment. Magyar Cup We've now in our 5th straight Cup title, this time against Ferencvaros, we really weren't into any kind of trouble. Europe - Champions League This time, we had qualified for the Champions League and qualified after dismissing FC Honka (Finland) 2-9 and edging out a narrow tie 2-1 against Shamrock Rovers... This was clearly not a classic, but not with our fists clenched a bit tighter than they should have been, we were on to the league phase. This was interesting, to say the least. On the strong side, we faced Bayern (0-2 defeat at home), Atlético (2-6 defeat away) and Arsenal (0-6 Away, they held some revenge after that reload of last year...), but then, wins against, Dinamo Zagreb (6-0 in Zagreb), Rapid Wien (2-1 at home), PAOK (6-3 in Greece), Benfica (2-0 at home) and, to finalize the league stage, a GLORIOUS 3-0 win against Newcastle, which was undefeated at the top of the table at the time. This last win actually lifted us in 14th place, and we qualified in the Knockout Round against Gladbach, which saw a glorious 90+3 goal from Benjamin Carcamo, on a glorious solo effort after we've went down to 10 men, but on the whole, we actually stole that tie... In the round of 16, it saw us drawn against Barcelona and yeah, we really weren't there. 0-3 at home. 0-4 at Camp Nou. They're going on to the Final against PSG. All in all, a great showing from the team, but there is still lots of road ahead. The Squad Great performances from Karim Konaté (again, 31 goals in 39 games) and Predrag Manojlovic (player of the year, 19 assists). Karim Konaté Predrag Manojlovic Other Hungarian sides in Europe Pretty good showing, but next year we'll get one more team in Europe next year. Mol Fehérvar - Quarter Final of UEFA Conference League against Fiorentina, great showing from them. Ferencvaros - Round of 16 of Europa League, lost against AS Roma MTK Budapest - Knocked out of Conference League 2nd Qualifying Round League Path against Ljubjana Other News Got my first somewhat looking promising youth intake, fingers crossed... 19. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2030-2031 | Season 8 | Making a run in Europe I'll be going a tad faster here, as when I finished that season, I was away without a good time to take screenshots and build a formal report, but lots of things happened since then. I've finished the 2032 season too, so this update is coming shortly. Transfers In I needed to bolster pretty much every position, but I had made a few inspired signings during that time. Some of them are still at the club, even! Siyabonga Tyhali - DC - 625k€ from Orlando Pirates (out for 3.9 M€ to Barcelona before the 2031-32 season). He was great, but I could only get to sign him with a low release clause and was never able to renegotiate it. He immediately attracted interest after a strong season, finishing with a 7.48 average rating across all competitions (7.37 in Europe) at only 19-20 years old. I can't blame him, he now earns 91k€/pw, he was on a 3k€ contract at our club... Jose Rivera - ST - 375k€ Still at the club! Scored 30 goals in 38(5) apps in 2030-31, including 9 in Europe and continued with a strong season in 31-32. He's become somewhat of a rotational player (like our other striker options, more on that later) and Diego Otegui - DMC - 4.3M€ (out to Herta in 2032 for 16.75M€) My first real time where I splashed on a player, I needed to strenghten the midfield and the creative option of Otegui was just fitting. Lucas Castro - DR - 1.9M€ My current starting wing back, a very complete player who can go forward, run for days but also be responsible defensively. Not awesome in the air, but I can live with that. Top clubs are sniffing in, I'm already trying to line up the replacements, unfortunately. Benjamin Carcamo Varelo - AMR/ST - 2.4M€ A bit of a one-trick pony, but I was a bit blinded by the 16 Dribbling, 16 Finishing, 16 Technique, 16 Composure and 16 Acceleration. I signed him initially to play up front, but he eventually found a spot as an inside forward where he ran in circles around everyone in the Hungarian league. Junior - AML - 6.25M€ (out to Southampton for 12.25M€) Finding Junior was a bit one of the moments where it was very difficult to pass. Super pacey, good crossing and off the ball, he played great, but had a 12.25M€ release clause which we couldn't remove (again!) and off he was to the Premier League, where he is a rotational player earning 3x the salary he was making in Hungary. Yeah, reputation is hard to build up... Out Going quickly here, but notable is José Bico who was our starting Striker last week who was falling down in the pecking order, and already 28 years old and actually scored 7 goals in the first half season at Torino in Serie A and 17 goals in the next full season. Win-win transfer here. Oleksandr Matveev, our homegrown right-back started to kick up a fuss about playing time and it was getting very hard to keep around, so I sold him to Dynamo Kyiv for 1.5M€ + 30% profit before he brought down the whole team morale with him. A bit of a shame as I loved having this local product in our team (and it was helping a lot in the European selection). Competitions - League After an invincible season, we finally lost a game where we crashed 0-4 against Mol Fehérvar, ending a 54-match streak without losing. Competitions - Europe In Europe, we had a great, great run. In the Champions League Qualifying rounds, we unfortunately crashed at Rangers and failed to qualify from the group/league stage, which saw us qualifying for the Europa League League. We were playing with confidence, ultimately finishing 7th in the League Phase, which was a pretty good showing. The 3-2 away win at Marseille was the one who made us go through. In the knockout rounds, we were able to walk past Ajax, Atletico Bilbao and Leeds (great win there). In the final, we were matched against Arsenal, which was, at the time, the top rated club in the world. Yeah, it wasn't close. (Saka, Odegaard, Neves, Bellingham Zabarnyi in their starting 11...) (I'll be totally honest here, I played this game and got a red card in the 2nd minute and a very hard injury in the 5th minute and we were down 5-0 at the half. I ragequitted this game and reloaded a few days later to get a more respectable showing from the guys. There was no way were were going to beat them, but I managed to get a less FM frustrating game...) Other News - We're slowly chipping at the facilities, making lots of money now with the European success and the player sales. I feel that more than last year, I'll have to always queue up replacements as it's going to be a while before our reputation is high enough to fend off interest from the top leagues. - The Hungarian league is making some progress, we've gained a European qualification place now, we're up to 5 places starting in the 31/32 season (and more are coming!) 20. In my save, Bayern has this monster of a regen... Value between 277 and 332M€, he's been with Bayern since he's 18 and scored 17 goals in 26 matches in that first half-season. yeah, he's playing in the CONCACAF, but still 33 goals in 33 caps is pretty impressive. He scored only 1 in our 5-0 defeat against them.
  21. Congrats @_JHTB_! I think it's the first major European trophy of the thread!
  22. Dunaujvaros PASE | Hungary | 2029-2030 | Season 7 | The Invincibles A great season in the league last year gave us our first ever Hungarian title, with that we qualified for the Champions League. Due to the fact that Hungary is still 20th in the coefficients, we had to go through qualification rounds, and our board was expecting us to reach the playoffs, just before the Champions League League itself. I spoiled it ahead of time earlier, so let's start with that, after all, it's the ultimate goal of this challenge! Champions League The qualifying rounds were fairly kind to us, starting with KF Tirana, from Albania. Again, not knowing exactly the level of play that we were going to face, I went all in, but only winning 2-1 at home, despite dominating the match. Someone must have said something great in the flight between Budapest and Tirana, because the guys stepped on the field and never looked back in a comprehensive 6-1 victory. Next in line was FK Astana, but the Kazakh never stood a chance and we walked out with two 5-1 wins. In the Playoff, we were drawn against Celtic. I'm getting to the point where we're playing against teams I actually know, so that's you know when things are getting real. That and the fact that a win here would get us "what used to be known as the group stage" of the Champions League, So I rotated the squad prior to the match and got a very emphatic 4-1 result at home, thanks to a Manojlvic master class (2 goals, 1 assist). We actually lost 1-0 on the way back, but we were through! But yeah, at this point, stuff got real. And by real, I mean 1 win, 2 draws and 5 defeats. A 5-0 hammering by Bayern and 6-2 against Newcastle... On the upside, we got an unlucky loss against our parent club Villareal and we weren't totally outplayed by AC Milan and Monaco. I'm a bit frustrated about the 0-0 draw at home against Rapid Wien which we should have won, but I don't think we could have realistically done much better here. So, all in all, we finished 29th out of 36 in the League stage, the knockout rounds are unlocked starting at 24th place, so it's not too too far. League I think that this screenshot tells it all. We got on top of the league and never looked back. We so much never looked back that nobody has been able to beat us, even though we rotated squad to accommodate Champions League fixtures. But then, towards the end of the calendar, after most of the fixture congestion was gone and we were still undefeated, I started to think that it could be possible. And the guys held on strong and finished the year with an all-time record of 91 points (the previous was 85, from MTK Budapest in the 90s) It's one of these dream seasons where 9 of the top 10 players in the average rating standings are members of your team, it means that some stuff has gone right. Magyar Cup We won. No drama here. And we even rotated quite heavily. Transfers This was a year of continuity and, contrary to last year, there were no obvious holes in the team, so the theme was general improvement. But then, I made a few lucky/genius moves which paid off greatly. à Out Kaua - 850 k€ to Stuttgart - I convinced him to move from Brazil to Hungary with a 850k€ release clause which I forgot about a bit really, but after the strong season he had last year, teams came knocking in. He actually rejected a few of the offers which met the release clause (which was great for us), but it was just a matter of time before he was off. He's been a regular starter in the Bundesliga II, but has not broken in the first team yet. But he's still being paid 4x what I was offering him in Danuajvaros, so fair play to the guy, the release clause worked great for him. Gergo Racz - 69k€ to Szeged 2011 - Not a huge transfer, but a round of applause for our keeper which got us promoted and kept us in the first division initially. He has moved to another team in the first division and we've had the joy of putting 10 goals in 2 games past him after his transfer. In Nicolas Gonzalez - GK - Free from Nacional - This was luck/genius. I signed him in hoping to help our DC Fernando Silva settle in the area. He looked like a decent prospect at keeper, but he literally stole the job from Otto Hindrich and never looked back. At 20 years old, he just earned his first Uruguayan cap and has been improving like crazy this year. Looking for more from him next year, but he's now without a doubt our first choice keeper. He now holds the record for the most clean sheets in the league, but was starting only 2/3rds of the season. Karim Konaté - ST - Free from Aston Villa - Without any doubt, the signing of the season. With Csanad Novak falling off the team in the last year, I was looking for a replacement and changing a bit the roles I was playing up front. Karim came from a release from Aton Villa after a loan at QPR and seemed to fit the bill perfectly for a pressing forward I was looking for. And to say that I got my money's worth would be an understatement. Initially used in a PF role, I transitioned him to a CF, a role in which he performed equally well. He reminds me a bit of Luis Antonio last year, not appearing to be amazing at anything, but always getting the job done. Turns out he broke the league goalscoring record (held by Novak) by quite a margin. He's also our highest paid player by quite a margin, but it's probably where well need to go at some point... Omer Beyaz - MC - Free from Fenerbahçe (by the way of a loan to Stuttgart) - He was the creative force in the midfield that we were looking for. Playing either as a Mezzala, a CM-A or a DLP-S, Ömer really rocked it, as we can attest from his 7 goals and 11 assists over the course of the season. He's also a great force on set pieces, which is sorely lacking in this team. He had U21 caps for Turkey, but couldn't break in the first team and now at 26, I hope he'll get one thanks to our performance, but I'm not holding my breath. Hakim Zyiech - MC - FREE - This one is a bit of a meme signing, but having a great player on its last years is always fun. I still remember fondly in FM20 when I signed Messi as an assistant coach and in FM22 when I had Cesc Fabregas when he destroyed the Portuguese 3rd division before taking a well deserved retirement. It wasn't quite the same thing for Zyiech, whom I spotted on a free in April during a spell of injuries and was willing to join on Impact Sub at a reasonable wage. Hey, I have 5-6 matches left, it's going to be fun, what do I have to lose. Yeah... First match. misses a penalty, 6.1 rating and he never really got into it. He's calling it a day after this season, which is the sensible thing to do, but it's still worth a good screenshot...! Standout Individual performances José Bica - ST - 33(2) apps, 25 goals, 9 assists, 8 PoM, 7.53 avg. rating Initially, he was our main menace up front, but then he was really outscored by Karim Konaté. But that didn't stop him from putting in a great season, scoring 25, assisting plenty and being an all around menace up front. Predrag Manujlovic - MR - Our star Serbian right wing got a very good season, albeit marked by an injury, after which I felt he wasn't quite the same. He still ended up with great stats for the season, so I'm hoping that it's just a temporary setback. Yury Titov - MC - 28(9) apps, 1 goal, 6 assists, 1 PoM, 7.03 avg rating. I'm still unsure about Yury. On one side, he's been good in the matches he's played, but at the same time, he's injury prone (and has a record to prove it) and has missed significant time for us. But with 15+ in every relevant stat category, I still believe that he can be great. Still, there is some interest for him from a few big clubs, I don't know if I should go and take the 3.5-4m€ that they're going to be offering. Other assorted news. - With the Champions League money, I got to invest in facilities (both training and youth), so we're getting somewhere. Not there yet, but we're on the way. - The other Hungarian sides are doing poorly in Europe, I'm getting close to a point where I should start loaning players to them. - I won manager of the year (again!).
