It says it does. But it's not on the official list of retailers which is confusing. We could do with that clearing up before we commit to buy. I got stung last year buying from shopto. They were undercutting everyone so were penalised by SI so they didn't have early access. I had to cancel my order and went with Fanatical instead. Shopto have returned to the official list this year, but no mention of CDkeys so I'm a bit wary to order...

Its fine, I got it from there and am playing 24.

Just ensure you get the one that says early access as there is a cheaper one that isn't.

  2. Been working on this a while and finally think I have something that replicates it and works for anyone looking for this now we've seen how Spurs setup. My transfer were basically the defenders we'd been linked with and who we've actually signed (VDV is injured if you're wondering why he isnt here), but keeping Kane, although Richie and Scarlett seem fine in this with goals from all areas and Im thinking of cashing in on Harry to make it more realistic.

Also Dewsbury-Hall I picked up as a backup to Bissouma, and Zaniolo for Deki and he can also play on the left.

Emerson this season with it working is on fire:

    As is Porro:

    Maddison and Bissouma too:

Only PI is the Mezzala to shoot less often, and a couple of tight markings.

Son is fine, but Im a couple of seasons in and he wanted to leave and Olise is a great replacement.

Yeah you need a winger/inverted winger instead of the Inside Forward.

The whole point of the inside forward is...to be a forward to exploit space, and if you have a mezala they would get in each other spaces.

Mezzala and Inside forward dont get in each others spaces if you have the one as attack and other as support. Know many will prefer the IF on attack but truly its a great combination with Mezzala/A and IF/U. Helps if both have the one-twos player trait.

Even then them hitting the same area isn't bad as its giving you an overload in the channel and frees up space for the Wingback that side.

Then why aren't you using wingers? The whole point of IFs and IWs is that they cut inside in the final third.

If only they did cut in. Absolutely abysmal that cutting in is run to by-line ignoring chances to at least try and cut in, then just turn back and then try and cut in removing any impetus in the attack.

Its absolutely shocking, this with players who have cut in from wing and also very high agility, dribbling and good on both feet.

Just remove gegenpress in general by deleting the two options for defensive lines. Just give one option for the backline. Because the AI tends to give long balls when they're pressured by an attacker. Problem solved. :)

Dont agree with this at all, the two defensive line options are what gives us the subtlety to setup various kinds of blocks and also compress the pitch. It also shows the setup in a very logical way.

I saw it a fair bit before the update. The ball was guaranteed to loop into the keepers hands 99% of the time.

Hardly see it at all now. See a fair few blocks as you'd expect to in real life. At least now the ball sometimes is deflected onto the post, out for a corner, into another player. It's very realistic currently

Agree, seems odd to say it but the thing I've appreciated in the new update is the much improved way moves break down in terms of variety. Blocked crosses used to drive me crazy with that and watching numerous wasteful corners but now its much more watchable due to the unpredictability.

Maybe I understood something wrong when the patch note says "Decreased the training injury frequency rate".

Maybe that doesn't mean that injuries in general decreased, but that training injuries decreased and injuries during matches increased (in relation)?

If somebody could clarify this, would be nice.

    :)

Oh crikey didn't spot that, that certainly doesn't seem to be the case! This is my injury history in 4 months- and LOTS of training injuries.

I dont play a particularly aggressive way too with both pressing and tempo either average or below middle.

Is it just me or are the injuries after the last update gone through the roof? It's almost every game I have to make sub because of the injury.

Yes, Im getting a lot, although I seem to remember it was like that my last save until after the winter world cup then it settled down. At least the AI is having the same issue, feel this is why many are finding it easy as clear we manage injuries and rotation better than AI managers.

  9. Mentioned this before but the breaking down of crossing moves is a joy to watch.  Absolutely fantastic that this has gone from block, block every time to a variety of ways these break down from defenders intercepting the pass to wide men even before the cross to  narrow misses and last gasp blocks. Its great too with this meaning there aren't huge amounts of corners and throw ins to sit through.

Passing wide seems better too, nice to see balls played for players to run onto where either the defender will nick it or the wide player isn't instantly closed down (previously they would either have a cross blocked or  play the ball back and the move breaks down) so they will then actually cross.

Also the repetitive avoidable silly offsides seem to have gone such as ones from corners when the ball is cleared wide, or from throw-ins when returning the ball to the throw in taker.

Only 10 games in but enjoying this a lot as it feels like the ME that was glimpsed in the beta with some much needed improvements especially in terms of repetitive movements that at times made watching games a chore.

    How is it working out?

I have played a ton of games with the 4-3-3 in many versions of FM, and in FM23, I've noticed far fewer crosses than ever from the wingbacks. They used to cross 10-20 times a match in older FMs, but now they might not cross a single time. When putting them on attack, they might be pushed to cross more (I think that role's default is cross more often), but I haven't noticed too much of a difference. What I have noticed is that the wingbacks will touch the ball a lot and simply recycle possession. It's a bit of a dull attack really. My wingbacks are more threatening when launching risky passes from deep early on in possession, kind of like the passes Alexander-Arnold or even Van Dijk at CD might try for Liverpool. When they're not doing that, they're going a dozen games or more without an assist.

As for the F9(s), it hasn't worked for me. DLF(a) and AF(a) seemed more consistently able to contribute. Another thing that worked for me was asking my inside forwards to sit narrow in their instructions. This might just be a game-y thing since they will overload the central area, but they get much more involved in goalscoring that way. Either way, my inside forwards end up being my main playmakers, so dribbling, passing, vision, first touch, and decisions all seem to be a big bonus with those wide attackers in FM23.

Another thing about the front three is that it really helps if they are good in the air. Even if you select low crosses and a possession-based system, there will be plenty of aerial challenges for your front three to win. Everyone kind of loves lobbing a pass to them instead of playing it to feet.

My final note is about your midfield three. I think it's a bit conservative, though with attacking wingbacks it seems sensible. Still, because those attacking wingbacks seem more apt to pass backwards then generate serious chances, I feel it helps a lot to have an incisive midfielder such as a CM(a) providing that extra body in the box. Another idea if your attack feels stale is to experiment with the IWB(a) role. They still provide width in passing attacks, but they will find their way into scoring positions for a handful of goals each season.

Early crosses is your friend here, its better but if you're a dominating team and teams invariably put 10 men behind the ball it loses it effectiveness.

Absolutely right about the front 3 Rashidi has identified that the meta is tall, fast forwards. Which is a shame as it ruins variety.

SI really need to break the same scenario year after year after year

    BETA OUT - decent ME

1ST patch (before Christmas) - going backwards

Winter patch - playable ME but still not enough

This. As an ex-Fifa player the cycle is exactly the same in that each year there are changes, brave new ME. First patch its back to the last release.

This year its so more noticeable because with new features thin on the ground the ME changes were the jewel this year. Yes, defending issues but it was glorious and a real change.

Take those ME changes away and I may as well have just installed a database update.

    Current match engine problems

    1. The midfield fight in the beta engine disappeared.

The si match engine team eventually gave up midfield fighting, which was the main feature of fm23, in order to stabilize the defense. And like fm22, we changed it to a match engine that allows all teams to play tiki-taka. Now a 4th tier team can play just like Man City and have no character whatsoever.

    2. Why do inside forwards and inverted wingers exist?

In the match engine right now, inside forwards and inverted wingers are just midfielders. dribble? A bold shot? can't see it at all. Mbappe, Messi, and Salah all just hit the side and fold and force a back pass, or a shot or cross with their foot, not their main foot.

    3. Lack of diversity in shooting scenes

Most shots are blocked by defensive blocking. The frequency is too high. Shooting is always too high. A variety of shooting angles should come out.

Agree with all of that. For 3 I wonder what on earth the shoot less often, looks for pass rather than shot when my DM with poor long shots and shooting, great passing, composure and vision who has easy pass options decides to blast from 30 yards at will are there for.

Such a shame as the beta was great, breaking these improvements has left us with a very poor edition this year.

I would suggest you re-think your tactical set-up. My inside forward scores for fun.

So do mine but they are still awful. Even with players who prefer to cut in they only very occasionally do.

Think you confuse peoples issues with the way roles should play and don't with not getting success.

Fact is the Beta match engine was a huge upgrade on FM22, but patched we are back to FM22. Its similar to how EA are bold with each new Fifa on release then the good but difficult to learn new way of playing gets patched out of it.

Truly annoyed as features are thin on the ground but the beta match engine seemed worthwhile on their own, now I wish Id just stuck with FM22.

Anyone else noticing an incredible high amount of yellow cards? 4 seasons in to a Plymouth save and at least twice a season we're being fined for not controlling our players. We're probably averaging 3-4 yellows per game, my right back had 7 yellow cards after only 12 games in to the league campaign.

I am playing a gegenpress system but I don't have "get stuck in" on or fully maxed high press, so I don't understand why we're getting so many yellows. Never seemed to have this issue in previous editions. Spoke to a few friends who have noticed the same with their saves too.

Wondering if it is just a coincidence or whether others are finding this? I personally find it way over the top though.

Yes, check out the bugs forum there's a thread there. Sadly because numbers across the board seem fine what is happening in our matches seems to be being brushed under the carpet.

Totally agree mate, no idea why they drastically changed it. I was messaging my mate on the night the Beta being released saying it was one the of the best I'd played. Such a drastic change only a few months later, now I wouldn't even recommend people buying FM23 if they have FM22 already.

This, was even excited by the patch notes but the ME has been ruined.

A reason why I stopped playing FIFA as it eventually got patched down to the lowest common denominator.

  16. Absolute joke that the Premier League scheduling in May is only fixable by a new game. Just started to be successful and the reward is 10 games in May and told the only way to fix it is to throw away 8 seasons and start again.

Love the ME but this has been a terrible release with "fixes" like this. It as bad in terms of injuries and tired players as the World Club Championship issues that still remained broken.
