The majority of the time it is locked in by the AI.
If you are offering a player out, you can lock in only £100p/w contribution and it prevents clubs coming back demanding you still pay £x p/w as a counter offer.

Use a different formation? One that isn't game breaking.

In FM17 Arsenal had a right winger from Trinidad and Tobago who became World Class.
He came from a club from there directly to arsenal and stayed there for his whole career

I’ll have a save with Fiorentina during the beta to get used to the new changes.
Then a journeyman save which I’ll end up at Bristol City and spend the rest of my career there.

I do a bit of both really. I have players in my 1st team whose attributes are not as good as the people on the bench but they seem to perform better.
If you as a manager notice a player is doing well for another club generally it’s because of his stats or performances and then the attributes will be the 2nd part to see if he’s worth scouting further.

I don't know how people get 20+ years in a save and don't use instant result.
I do it. I only play one save a year though (although this yeah I’ve had to do two due to my old laptop dying).
So for FM19 I had one save over 20 year and my current save is 19 years.

I’ve quite often wanted to sign a youngish player from a team and kian him back to them but the option is never available.

FM2018: 1713hrs
FM2019: 1477hrs (so far)
Total: 13,848hrs and 1 min
So in 10 years FM has accounted for 577 days of my life (will have been more than that but I think I came into Steam most of the way through FM2010).
You didn’t think much of FM2009!

It’s also a very funny name!
If you don’t like someone’s name, give them a nickname of John Smith.

If you want your strikers to be the main goal scorers you need to play a formation which aims for this.
A 4-2-3-1 wide will share the goals between the wingers and the striker.
I want my strikers to score the most (because I'm better at finding good strikers than midfielders) so play a 4-4-2 where the aim is to get to the byline and get crosses in for my strikers to score, hence both my strikers are just short of a goal a game, but my midfielders have about 10 goals between them.

I removed the form for the last 5 games column and it all fits well and no sliding about.
I don’t really use it too much for reference anyway so hopefully that’s a quick fix for me.

How the hell do these things work!?
I like quite a lot of information, so use the whole screen to have it filled out.
Position selected, name, info, position can play, moral, condition, form over 5 games, average rating, apps, goals, assists, ability, potential, value, wage, contract expiry date, nationality, squad status, height, age, personality and training performance so its pretty busy.
To try and get these all lined up properly is a nightmare! you move one column and it moves 3-4 at the same time, then you double click to auto size and it messes up the size for about 6 of them and stretches it out so I have to scroll to the tight.
Is it something I'm doing or are they just weird?

I don't normally add players to my shortlist until they are 100% scouted unless I can tell from first place they are especially good.
I normally have a small clean up at the end of each season, and then a big clean out every 2-3 seasons.
