  1. I have a save with Guilsfield in Wales. It’s a semi-pro club but the game won’t let me offer anything but non-contracts to players. Weird.

Anyway, we’re in 1st place and the mid season transfer window just closed. 7 of our starting 11 were poached away from us. Two went to the league above us so I have no problem with that. But the other 5 went to bad teams at our level, and all 5 are “fringe” players at their new clubs but were starters with us. And they’re all making slightly less than they made with us. Not realistic at all.

I assume we were raided because we’re in first place and the AI is creating “drama” by tearing up our roster. These dramatics need a lot more realism if you ask me.

  2. I think it’s time for FM to update their end-of-match script. This morning my Hamilton team was beating Celtic 2-1. But in the 89th minute Celtic scored to even it up, then 40 seconds later they scored again to win.

Teams that are behind have always received a big offensive boost around the 90th minute to create “drama” but it’s not realistic and is embarrassingly arcade game like for a game that pretends to be a simulation.

  3. If I had one wish for FM22, I’d want to get rid of the manipulation of match results. Manipulation is most obvious in cup matches — they’re all pushed toward overtime or penalties (unless one team has a much higher reputation than the other, in which case the high rep team is always awarded a penalty goal to help them win). The other situation where manipulation is obvious is the end of each season. The 4 or 5 last matches are manipulated to create “drama”, making you wait a bit to lock up the title. It’s too predictable to actually create any excitement though.

Other than that the game is pretty good. So let the match engine always decide results and I think you’ll have a winner for FM22.

  4. I’m about halfway through my first season with Cardiff Met Uni, the other prominent amateur club in Wales. In the top division of course. We’re in third, and the top 3 have separated ourselves from the rest of the pack. In our latest match we drew with league leading TNS.

We haven’t had many players poached. Just 3. Excessive player churn was a big problem in FM20 but it’s fixed in FM21 I guess.

There seems to be enough amateur talent available to keep us competitive in the weak Wales league. If we qualify for Europe we’ll get crushed but that experience will be fun anyway.

  5. My club was on a 10 match winning streak and was up 2-1. In the 90th minute our goalkeeper took a free kick from several yards to the right of our goal. He kicked it all the way across the pitch to their fullback, and the fullback volleyed it 55 yards into our goal before the keeper could return to his position.

There isn’t a real goalkeeper anywhere in the world who is dumb enough to make that kick. 10 year olds aren’t dumb enough to do that.

It’s exactly the kind of ridiculous last minute goal that makes people think FM is scripted.

  6. I almost always do lower league saves and recently started one with Leamington at the bottom of the England tiers. I like to let the existing roster guide me to our initial tactics. At Leamington we had good wingers and a couple of giants who can play striker so I went with a 4-2-4 and wing play tactics.

It’s the preset wing play tactic, unaltered and it’s working great. So far we’re scoring for fun and defensively we’re surprisingly strong. No counter-press and a standard defensive line and lower line of engagement. I think it’s exactly the kind of thing you’re looking for. Cheers.

another stupid stuff is my player will always try long ball to other side of the field only to get stolen and get counter attacked.

Yes, the long ball directly to the opposition fullback happens about 20 times a match. FM uses it to create a turnover but it’s an unrealistic way to depict how turnovers occur in real life.

Out of curiosity what more can be done? I mean to have clubs fans chants would cost loads I’d imagine plus you need a lot of staff and time to get it right, then you’ve also got the rights And licenses to the clubs to take into account as well.

The big problem with sound is the whistle. It’s shrill and too loud in comparison to the crowd noise. Solutions: change the whistle to a much less shrill sound more similar to a bird chirp, or give us the option to turn off the whistle but keep the crowd (the sounds are handled separately in the program so that would be easy).

  9. When starting a career with an amateur club give us the option to make the club “forever amateur” so if we get promoted the club won’t become professional. The fun and challenge of these clubs is that they are amateur and I’d love the choice to keep them that way. It ought to be very easy to implement.

  10. And FM’s “last minute goal” script is getting out of hand. We lead 3-2 at the end of regulation time. There were supposed to be 6 minutes of added time, but the other team scored at 97.32 to draw. FM needed the extra minute and a half to successfully execute the script.

About half the goals scored against us are in the last minute of the first half or in the last minute of the match (obviously we don’t allow many goals). Nothing suspicious about that. Hahahaha.

The game is programmed to be easy but I guess the programmers try to keep us from being undefeated every season by putting in stuff like the last minute goals.

  11. Sometimes FM just throws your team into bad form. Your tactics are already pretty simple, but maybe try using completely basic formation and tactics for a bit? I used this to win a lower league:

This isn’t hugely different from yours except: 1) we used standard depth lines, 2) no asymmetric stuff, 3) one of my central midfielders was on attack to get him to push forward and help the strikers.

Developing those good partnership lines appears to be critical. Once we did that we were unstoppable. Good luck.

This unanswered questions still is a crucial one - my impression is that player's progress by training (also individual training by myself) in general is nearly non-existent on FM Touch...
Or are there other people who have contrary impressions/experience?
In general, it seems to be nearly impossible to develop young talents as used to in the full FM version!? At least that's my impression at the moment...

None of my young prospects have developed at all in FM20. In FM19 I had one guy I bought when he was 17 and he quickly developed into a star but I was starting him on our first team. The largest clubs in the world seem to develop players, but the low level clubs I manage don’t at all.

  13. I just finished a season in Wales and noticed something odd. The league schedule has just one game a week and no mid-week matches. That’s not enough playing time to fatigue anyone, but my opponents often have some players who are exhausted by halftime. It definitely makes it easier to beat the AI teams (we coasted to victory in the Cymru South).

The only explanation I could think of is the AI teams are using their starting players in mid-week reserve squad matches. That would be a dumb thing to do, but it’s the only way they wouldn’t be fully rested for our match.

Has anyone else noticed that their opponents are oddly tired? Or was it something weird about my save?

  14. Kitanov “looks to pass rather than score” which might be a problem if he’s your lone striker. They look like they’d make a good pair for a 2 striker system. Kitanov has a bigger jump reach and will presumably set up Ant for lots of goals.
