Counter press and a very high block seem to be very similar.
If I took counter press off and played very high LOE and very high defensive line would the effect in game be the same?

With mentality and passing, would shorter passing on anything below 'balanced' be more likely to pass short in their own half as opposed to mentalities above balanced where they might be more likely to pass short up the field?

Cruyff's 3-4-3 is more a myth than anything else. He used 4 defenders most of the time and had a remarkable inclination to use manmarking (e.g. Champions League Sampdoria final, Ferrer manmarked Vialli while playing 3 additional defenders).
His tactics usually hurt the team, players out of position, suicidal strategies (Guardiola manmarking Laudrup season 94-95 Madrid 5- Barça 0) and other terrible mistakes, just because he knew better or God knows why. He finally decided to play his family in the team (his son Jordi and Angoy, who was married with his daughter)
He was very lucky to win 3 crazy leagues (Tenerife, Tenerife, Valencia) with the most talented players of that years.
Cruyff's biggest contribution was convincing supporters Barça could beat anyone. As a manager, he was mediocre, at best.

In FM19 If I use a player in the DM-C strata will the defensive line drop slightly deeper as in previous versions?

If I selected Counter Press and lower defensive line and lower line of engagement will the team fall back into defensive positions if the press is unsuccessful.

You can select a wingback role in the FB strata so my guess would be that a wingback on attack is more attacking than a FB on Attack as they have to perform winger duties on top of defensive duties.

You can't. Shape is now a label depending on the duties you use.

Does Team Mentality effect closing down and defensive line positioning? Is this reflected in the UI?

High d-line setting automatically increases the level of pressing, and vice versa. So if you apply both at once, you are creating too much space behind your back line for the opposition to exploit via balls over the top (killer passes for quick forwards in the first place). Not to mention that you are at the same time reducing the space for your players during the attacking phase. But everyone is free to play however they want, so you simply should not follow my advice if you think it's wrong
I'll try to do this myself actually. I've always used a high d-line and high press so now I'll try only using one or the other.

What training option would you say is the closest to Pep's "Rondo's"? I'm debating between ball distribution or transition - press. Judging by description and what effect they have. Thanks.

What you will want to do is start a new game with the parameters listed, but make a manager called "Holiday Man" or really whatever you like, he will never manage a football club.
Start the game with your Holiday Man, and send him on Holiday. I actually usually holiday until November 5th and have a save file there, to see if there is a possibility of multiple sides being the 19th-placed club on the 6th. If so, that makes it easier to reload until you get the result you need, if one of the clubs is a preferred club of yours. Once I've saved the file on the 5th, I then holiday one more day to November 6.
Then, you retire Holiday Man and create your manager under the challenge parameters, and take over that 19th placed club. That's it.
You're obviously welcome to restart/reload on November 5th until you get a favored club or a situation you'd like to play on November 6. Not that we could tell anyway, but it is definitely not looked down upon. I reloaded multiple times on my first attempt before I got Southampton. (I have to now restart on FM18, but it definitely took a few reloads to get a club I wanted to play.)

How do you holiday to November 6th and be able to take over any team that is second bottom? It's probably really simple but I haven't figured it out yet?

Hi, I've been reading this thread with keen interest as I have my own 433 I'm using.
Can I ask for some opinions and advice please on how my tactic(s) look?
I'm currently managing the England National Team and want to play a short passing, possession style, with Kane dropping deep to create space for my IW(a) and my CM(a). When up against stronger teams I want to keep the shape solid and hit the front 3 quickly so they can use their pace and finishing.
