  1. Do you ever start a save in non-league... Maybe below vanarama north/south. Get to the championship and decide the premier is going to be too much hassle and losing to be enjoyable? Going from nearly playoffs one year to promotion every 2 year in every league then premier league is not as enjoyable because it's a big difference? Probably just me.

    Something to improve game difficulty.

I love the game but it feels completely pointless at the moment, it's just a grind when the game is so easy - it's like half of the game is missing. I want to battle against relegation and worry about getting fired - sometimes I want to actually get fired too. I want to build a squad over several seasons and develop players rather than just getting promoted back to back and replacing the entire squad. I'm ok with the idea that taking over a tiny club might lead to you getting stuck in league one or the championship due to lack of finances.

I just want to feel like I've earned my wins. FM has reached the point where it's difficult to fail, and the joy of winning has gone as a result.

My concern is that the game will be marketed at the casual players who pick it up at the start of the season, play a couple of seasons as man utd and buy Messi, Mbappe etc, win the champions league and then quit until next year. I'm fine with the game being easy for those casual players, but can we please have a realistic mode where it's actually difficult to climb the leagues, and relegation/being fired is a real possibility?

Please teach me. I struggle compared to you. I want to understand the game as the more advanced players do. Maybe its players like me that's holding the game back in terms of difficulty but there is zero documentation. A few hints in the UI and relying on forums is not documentation.

  3. I have played with stupidly large shortlists. I have found that when you try and remove a large amount of players (5000+) the game stops you from being able to perform any other actions in the mean time whilst the game worked up to consume 8GB of RAM over 10 minutes wait. I have a high spec PC with 32GB RAM, SSD and a powerful processor. Surely It would be best to perform these tasks it's own thread? It consumes loads of memory whilst performing this task. You might be guessing by now I am a developer (not of games).

I am talking from the context of FM21. If this has already been improved since FM21 then let me know.

  4. Every FM, when I get a tactic working well I always notice that we eventually start scoring 3 goals in a game. From then on each game we start scoring less and less:

What exactly are these teams doing as I'm gaining form? Preston was only just relegated from the Championship. Both my goals were lucky but from Chesterfield down we start running out of goals. Chesterfield were mid table, Exeter & Shrewsbury are bottom of the table. MK Dons are in the league below yet we created hardly anything.

Here is the tactic after recent help on the forums:

Depending on how the game is going, I may change the LOE and DL up 1 or 2 together and sometimes I might have the DLF on Attack and try playing passes into space if they are committing their FB's/WB's forward leaving a possible 3v2 or 2v2.

Do you have some suggestions for this? I know that streaks end but I would like some ideas to try and resist the drop to zero goals.

  5. When I think of BPD i think of Rio Ferdinand, Pique etc.... I associate this with dribbling forward to trigger a press from the opposition and free up a team mate to receive the ball. This I believe to be the fact with FM's BPD but the whole defense splitting passes thing looks and sounds to me like a hoof like a No-nonsence CD. Am I completely getting this wrong here?

This tactic was working well in the much lower leagues on FM21. I used to be able to switch between high press or low compact block. The teams in league one seem to expose it. I had success but now i'm doubting it all together.

I dont seem to be able to create alot of chances and the chance I do create arent very good. very little clear cut chances. Originally I was using it for possession but I seem to be making drastic changes every game now to even create chances.

    Some ideas please.

You could also bin the DLP and go w a CM + WP(a) on the left with a wingback (s) behind: that could help address your creativity uses

Would the WP and the DLF not get in eachothers way or be too close together?

Lots of potential fixes: SK, BPD, a wingback(a) instead of the FB(a), DLP(s), Two strikers on attack, more direct etc.

    Thanks. lots to think about.

Basically you need two players directly responsible for scoring goals (in your second tactic you have 0) and more players going forward in your tactic.

The second screenshot was a mistake (took it after tinkering around). My bad, thought I had removed it.

the way you watch games also helps. If you only watch key highlights then you are going to miss a lot of things same if you play with certain camera angles you won't be able to take not of the shape of your team properly.

If you have a lot of time I'll advice you to watch the first 10 minutes of games in full highlight mode (at least until you are confident with your tactic) and 2d or if you prefer 3d use one of the camera settings that show you almost the entire pitch and slow the speed at which the game is played. When you watch games try to think ahead of what you want your players to do so for example if one of your defenders have the ball you should already see where you want him to pass the ball, if he doesn't pass the ball in that direction then pause the game and ask yourself why, you can rewind as much as you like and just make a mental note of it, don't change anything yet. Do the same for when your team is defending think about where you want your players to be and why they are not there; if you see that you DM is out of position rewind to see what he was doing before your team lost the ball, maybe he left his position to go and press someone on the flank when he didn't need to move then maybe change his role from BWM or DM to A. Maybe you may notice that when you attack one of your players doesn't have anyone to pass to because other players are either too forward or too deep so you try and change the roles of the players around.

If you notice something don't change immediately until you've seen it as a repeated pattern. If your players are doing what you want them to do and you are creating chances and you go a goal or 2 down by luck (long shot, set piece or maybe player error) don't change anything, as long as they are doing what you want them to do and the chances are coming they will eventually score. If you concede a goal rewind it far back to see what went wrong, sometimes people make the mistake of thing that the player out of position at the time the goal was scored is the one at fault but if you go far back, you might see that the only reason he was out of position in the first place is because someone else was not where he was supposed to be so that player was covering for him

This is the camera angle I use when I want to play in 3D because there are somethings you can only see in 3D like what foot the players are using, it's easier to see where they are facing etc. The players look so small but that's not the point and I don't care about that, I care more about seeing the shape of the team at all times

    I'll try this out thanks

  10. So what would you look at if you were struggling against a better or maybe the same level opponent? Let's say the overload is either losing the ball or the unlocked wing is not getting the chances it normally gets in your tactic. I know it's a broad question but it would be great to see some examples of when you need to make changes in game....

  11. I'm counting central defenders and I usually like them to have Anticipation, Acceleration & Pace but cannot always find one with all 3 that I would want to join me.

If a defender has high anticipation for my league how much can that negate his lack of pace? I wouldn't be necessarily looking at at 31 year old with 7 pace but want to know if he'll be smart enough to play a high line for example and not get caught out....
