Now I've looked at it all in a little bit more detail, I think I am actually quite disappointed.

These changes really seem to just be UI and UX changes to the interface, very little actual change or thinking into how tactics work or what you do. I was hoping for more change.

These 'style' changes are really just moving around functionality that already exists, making it a touch clearer what settings are doing. Fine, thats a positive change, but it feels like its the only change that tends to happen from year to year. We are still mainly working with the same sliders under the hood, they are just glossed up with new definitions and moved about. Just feels like a nod to get new players in more than anything, which is understandable, especially when so many people find the current system confusing. I guess I was hoping for something more... innovative.

Well you just decreased my hype.

Nope, from what I see in the screens you set your formation once and that's it, those two formations are just for a visual indication of which players are gonna press or not, or what happens in transition.

And I'm glad wibble-wobble isn't back (if I'm understanding this correctly!), this is much more sophisticated and simple.

These changes look great, it's exactly what we've needed for a long time IMO, they even got rid of team shape, yes! :D Can't wait to get FM19 now.

I don`t think they got rid of the team shape. In the 6th picture you can see at the bottom TEAM FLUIDITY: FLUID. Isn`t that team shape?

  3. I really want match engine to be massively improved. Not just the graphics, but animations. I want great dribblers to look like great dribblers, I want players with great first touch to look like they  have good first touch, I want more realistic collisions and ball shielding etc. If match engine is not massively improved in FM 19, I don`t think I will buy it.

My Man Utd team are winning, but also conceding a lot of goals, so I started reviewing the goals conceded to see if there was a theme and came across this.

This started with a Brighton free kick. They took it short and worked it wide and everything was fine right up until this moment. 6 of my players just all retreated to the 6 yard box and stood like statues in a straight line while Brighton had 4 completely free and unchallenged players inside the box. It obviously ended in an easy goal for them.

I`ve seen that before in one of the matches I played. Definitely a bug.

  5. I don`t like the match stats window in FM 18 during the match. It was much better in 17. In fm 18 you need to make the match stats window bigger to be able to read percentages and as a result, the window takes much more of your view. But in 17, you could have the smallest window and you could still see percentages. Also in fm 18, the window doesn`t get transparent when the ball is behind the window. Hope this is improved for the release.

    Thoughts as I go.

    - Pre-match panel is decent but nothing new. Custom skins have been doing this, and doing it better, for a while now.

    - Don't love the idea of prematch tactic talks. Think they'll get extremely repetitive.

    - Cutscenes and improved team talks are nice but again I feel people will eventually end up delegating this to the assistant/clicking through quickly.

    - ...and more clicking with pre-match interviews.

    - Refined scoreboard is fine but again, custom skins have done this for a while and made much more impressive panels.

    - The "analysis" displayed doesn't really tell us anything useful, pretty much just volume stats over small samples. Would have been nice to see things like xG implemented.

    - In-match tactics panel looks extremely cluttered and intrusive to me.

    - Not sold on shouts having any place in FM.

    - Not doubting the new graphics engine but it looks nearly identical to me.

    - Post-match data options and maps look nice.

Not trying to be overly critical, but nothing here excites me tbh. Just refined features that are tedious/poorly implemented to begin with and improved interface options that are inferior to what the skinning community has been producing for years. Hope the actual match engine is much improved but I have my doubts considering it's hardly been mentioned.
