  1. Second season as predicted was a lot more tricky, however I stuck to my guns and used the same tactic again without any changes since the start of the first season. The goal was to qualify for europe, but getting to the first knock out stages even in an easy group is quite the feat for my squad.

Rondon playing as poacher again was my top scorer bagging 29 in all competitions this time.

I have brought in Pinamonti now, so a much better player will hopefully give us a much better return :D

  2. it is a very basic tactic, so much so i saved it as a simple 442 :D

all other set pieces are untouched

The questions asked are right though, how did yours fail?   This 442 was set up around a squad like west brom. very very average.  id look at your players at spurs and make sure they can play the roles you put them in, and also make sure my roles were set up to work together well to create a team that plays together with a bit of variety

  3. I chose West Brom because of their real life struggles

I think i finished above the expectation, which meets the requirements of the challenge

I played 442 all season, This is how i set up, martinez was a january signing, sturridge prior to him coming in did really well too.

I went for a different take on the poacher than most i think

Rondon isnt really a great player for doing anything other than being in the box, he doesnt need great movement, just needs to finish off moves which is one of the reasons i liked him, he has the aerial ability of the poacher and the strength to brute force his way around the box

If I'm being totally honest the fully deep version is also my favourite one but thought I'd meet in the middle for the sake of the article. I'm really excited for sharing the analysis parts when I finish them off though as I think they're great I've really enjoyed writing them so far along with the comparison articles. Really thought provoking stuff I feel. I'll not spoil the articles but even I had a 'wow didn't realise that' moment writing it based on what just happened, it was rather weird but in a good way :D

    That enthusiasm is inspired

  5. Be More Disciplined - when is it a good time to use this team instruction?

ie - I am currently trying to emulate rafa benitez type tactics from the old valencia/liverpool sort of style of play. a compact 4231 which employs a medium press with high pressure in the right zones, now to reach the level of compactness I have opted to go standard with very fluid. Very fluid allowing players high creative freedom. would it be a good idea to use be more disciplined to bring it back down a bit get to team to focus on sticking to the tactical shape?

  6. It's a figure that Cleon and I have always had in our heads. It's not a "rule" or anything, but feels like a decent benchmark to aspire to; Cleon tends to aim beyond 50%, whilst I'm happy with 50% and lazily include Blocked Shots in my total.

I posted earlier in the thread a similar question about shots on target, I also posted a screenshot of a game where I had 100% shots on target against chelsea. I cant remember the answer I got, but following on from going a fair amount of games with 90% + shots on target not including blocked shots I got fed up, dumped my tactic, went onto ignore stats and just play something that probably shouldnt work but wins me games.

I guess i'm trying to support that it isnt a definite rule to aim for the 50% but it is nice to see over it and with more shots on target the more goals do tend to be scored.

  7. thanks for your comprehensive thread

how about having 2 or 3 playmaker roles like regista, advanced playmaker and trequartista on the pitch, simultaneously? is this possible practically?

It is possible in the right set up, for example a deeplying playmaker to bring the ball out of defense, start counter attacks in the cm or dm slot, with an advanced playmaker to control the play in the attacking third looking to carve openings and play through balls to strikers or runners turning possession into attacks.
