  1. Youth players should be available to sometimes (like a rotating schedule) train with the senior squad without actually being promoted and at those times be able to take part in mentoring. So not the same effect as players in the senior squad but some effect at least. From my understanding that is how it works in many professional clubs and it can make a big impression on the young players even though they don´t end up being promoted to the senior squad.

  2. I have found that my technical director sign staff for my youth squads for lower wages than I would have managed. I have though mostly been focusing on trying to sign staff for my senior squad and feel that most I find worth signing are demanding much more than I can pay (or the board allow me to pay). However my technical director sign acceptable staff for my reserve and youth squad for peanuts. I manage Slovan Bratislava (second season) so it´s not the best TD in the game doing this for me. So I find the role, in my save, satisfying enough so far.

    However, how realistic is it for a club to have a TD, a DoF and a manager? Probably Slovan Bratislava have a head coach rather than a manager in real life if they also have a TD and a DoF. But surely a DoF in general handle staff also and not just players?

  3. Rayo is the Spanish version of St Pauli? They used to have rainbow details on their kits some seasons ago and attract the same kind of hipster following I guess. If you want to manage in Sweden you could pick basically any club since all are at least 51% owned and run by club members and contribute a lot to their local communities. But avoid AFC Eskilstuna, Östersunds FK, Dalkurd, Utsiktens BK and Team TG. They have been doing their best to exploit financial and administrative loopholes with sketchy minority owners or chairmen.

  4. I would like to be able to create some kind of individual training templates. Especially when it comes to teaching players new positions/roles. In my current save I have a 16 year old regen spawned as a natural right side winger. However his attributes and physical frame suggest that he is more promising as a centre back. I also want my centre backs to be able to play as an anchor man in the DM strata so I have begun training him for that position.

    My problem is (1) that I can´t train him in several new positions at the same time and (2) that nobody in the club except me see him as a centre back/defensive midfielder. The U19 head coach still use him as a winger because I can´t tell him that this is a player we want to turn into a defender.

    When I plan the club´s squads I always do that in terms of goalkeepers, central defensive players, two-way players (central midfielders and wingbacks), creators (attacking midfielders) and strikers. Each group has certain expectations of what positions and attributes the player should be good at. This kind of plan I have for every single player in the club as soon as they join. So I would want to create training or developing templates for those groups as a way to communicate to my coaching staff how the players will be used.

    A left footed two way player should be able to play in central midfield and as a left sided fullback and wingback for me and that´s not something I should need to micro-manage every now and then.

    In other words, the template should decide what positions the players should be trained in and how the coaches should use him in match and team training. I think this feature would fit inside the training units tab, as sub-units within the defensive and attacking one.

  5. Are wages actually (IRL) paid weekly in England/UK? Feels like factories during the 1800:s. One of many anglocentric features in the game I guess. The only reasonable would be if the game stored the yearly wages and divided that value by 12 or 52 depending on your preferred display setting. But from what I have noticed working with the database it converts wages to weekly and multiply by 4,33 or 52. Not a very big deal (even though the observation above is remarkable) but weekly wages must be the least relevant setting of the three?

  6. This attribute decide how likely the goalkeeper is "to do non-goalkeeping things and the unexpected from a goalkeeper". So if the goalkeeper have good mental attributes and decent technique a higher eccentricity attribute isn't a problem compared to a keeper with low eccentricity and low mental attributes. That's what I would think at least.

Isn't the standard narrative on this topic from the real world the following: Because of the squad rules, Russian clubs pay Russian players ridiculously high wages due to the fact that they need Russian key players in their squad. This means that Russian players will not be offered more lucrative contracts from other countries unless we talk about the very biggest clubs in Europe.

    That may be represented in the game somehow. Perhaps the template for newgens with Russian nationality is set to have high loyalty and/or low adaptability?

  8. Amazing that experienced FM players confuse performance and ability so often. As the manager the performance is the only thing you have to focus on. Of course high ability will increase the chances of a good performance (but there are also hidden attributes and external circumstances that will affect performance). Great performance may indicate high current ability but says nothing about potential ability. The performance can be BECAUSE OF or DESPITE the player's ability.

    To enjoy the game as much as possible you should know as little as possible about the database. You should base your decisions on in-game performance, your own and your staff's perceptions about player's current and potential ability (PCA and PPA respectively).

    Just because we are updating the database before every new release with new information from the real world does not mean your save-game should collect new data from the real world every season in that save-game. Your save-game is it's own world.

    Adam Bergmark Wiberg should have the PPM's "Shoots from distance" and "Tries first-time shots" added, he showed this past season that he is always thinking about shooting and will do so almost every time he receives the ball in the final third without evaluating any other options.     Kevin Ackermann is a player who has shown tremendous determination overcoming his heart condition and continues to show that same determination on the pitch, he is also a mentally mature player with a dedication to football beyond the ordinary, consequently his rating for determination should be no lower than 16 and his ratings for ambition and professionalism should be among the highest in the division.

    Also some thoughts on the club legends, icons and favoured personell: 

    First off Wilhelm Friberg should be listed as a founder rather than a chairman and Agne Simonsson should be listed as both a player and a manager. I would also reconsider the listings of Johan Anegrund and Dick Last as icons, good, popular players in their time but they certainly do not belong in the same company as the likes of Sören Börjesson, Nicklas Sjöstedt and Magnus Källander, Last's failed tenure as director of football also soured his status with the fans, I would suggest moving them down into favoured personell. From that same era the three Brazilians Afonso Alves, Paulinho Guara and Valter Tomaz Jr. are ignored, when I would argue that looking back they are more memorable than Anegrund or Last. All three should be in the list of favoured personell and in my opinion Afonso should be listed as an icon. I think Ailton's status at the club justifies listing him as an icon as well.

    The listings also seem to ignore the last 10 years of club history, Daniel Paulson should certainly be listed as favoured personell and while he is a divisive figure to some I would argue Jakob Lindström should be as well, him climbing the fence at Strandvallen to celebrate with the fans is one of the defining moments for the club in this era.

    Will look into this.

    The jumping attribute is relevant to all players. The aerial reach only to goalkeepers. Therefore the average jumping rating (10) is used for players of average height (about 180 cm). Since goalkeepers generally are taller, the average aerial reach rating (10) is used for goalkeepers around 185 cm. So the average 180 cm tall goalkeeper would have 10 in jumping and perhaps 8 in aerial reach, the average 185 cm tall goalkeeper 12 in jumping and 10 in aerial reach and so on.

  11. Good point but it will be very hard to draw the line regarding how much detail that is justified to have represented in the game. When it comes to names, language knowledge, appearence and such data it eventually can come down to lable hundreds of thousands of actual human beings with ethnicites and stuff and that's questionable to keep record of.

    In the Basque case it is relevant to have a Basque "nationality" represented in the database because of the importance and popularity of Athletic Club among Football Manager players. We need to have that club to function in a realistic way in the game. If there is a club in Chechnya that only allows Chechens in a similar way it's not as relevant to have represented in the database because my guess is that not many costumers buy Football Manager to play with that Chechen club.

  12. Disclosure: I have not spent as much time playing the gam/learning the recent years scouting systems as much as I did when I played the game more frequently (up to FM15).

    But I can see that the European scouting regions still are very unbalanced both in terms of numbers of countries (5 to 27) and area. These parameters may or may not have very much impact if I send a scout to a specific region, but I feel a need to balance it a bit more. If I'm not wrong UEFA have about 20 more members in 2020 than 20-25 years ago so in Football Manager it would be justified to rearrange the scouting regions from 5 to 6. My suggestion below, including current region and why the change is needed according to me.

  13. I use Swedish and monthly salaries in SEK. I guess I want to compare it to my own or something. Here we always speak in terms of monthly salaries but I can understand the concept of using yearly salaries as well. But weekly? Gets me thinking about factory workers 150 years ago. Also I want to distance my playing experience from the obvious anglocentrism of the game. But somehow I will keep send my scouts to "eastern" Europe when they go to the Czech Republic or Hungary.

    Well, it's not like professional medical staff always make the right decisions or that the manager listens to or understand the information they are given by the medical staff. In real life, players play on pain-killers from time to time and are rushed back onto the field after injuries more often than not. One could argue that it has been too easy for us to minimize risk of injuries or fatigue in the game. I for one have been very uncomfortable to start at match with a player on 89% fitness compared to one with 90% or 91%. So to make Football Manager players use their squad in a more realistic way perhaps it's needed to trick us into picking players on 85% for the starting eleven regularly? I can't play FM21 in the same way I played FM20 or FM11 anyway.

  15. Everyone in Stockholm support AIK, Djurgården or Hammarby. There are often small clubs from Stockholm as high as the First division elite (IK Frej, Akropolis, Brommapojkarna, AFC United) that no one cares about at all. Brommapojkarna and Frej averaged about 600-700 spectators per home game last season. If you want to manage a club from the second division to the professional leagues and have growing attendance you should pick a club from a city that doesn't have a professional club already.

  16. Mexico FA belong to CONCACAF, not CONMEBOL, but used to send teams to Copa Libertadores due to Latin American cultural ties I guess. But the CONCACAF competitions are their first priority when it comes to international play. If I remember correctly, CONCACAF changed the format of their Champions League and CONMEBOL changed the scheduling of Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana so the combination of these two factors made Mexican representation in Copa Libertadores impossible a few years ago.

    Sweden has a lot of different ethnic clubs if you look, Assyrrian and old yugoslavic ones are the most numerous.

    Yeah, Assyrian is not just Syrian (or a nationality at all), that's my point.

    As a researcher (responsible for Assyriska BK in Gothenburg among other clubs) I am interested in the realism of the game. These clubs are of course diverse and open for everyone but if it is set up that a club like Assyriska FF, Assyriska BK or Syrianska FC spawn newgens based on these second nationalities I would consider that potentially unrealistic. Because a player of, for example, Arab ethnicity and Iraqi second nationality is not more likely than anyone else to be attracted to an Assyrian club, if you see what I mean. And if such club is set up to spawn newgens with Iraq as a second nationality it is likely that those newgens represent the dominant ethnicity of Iraq, which is Arab. Would you, based on your newgens' names, consider them to be of Assyrian origin or more of Arab, Persian or perhaps Turkish origin? Just curious.

    With this said, we can't just start to log peoples ethnicities in the database, that would be questionable to say the least. But just from a Football Manager perspective it is annoying that we can't represent clubs who are associated with ethnic minorities as good as clubs associated with players with certain second nationalities.
