  1. Thursday 7th July 2022 Keep it simple, stupid I don't believe in over-complicating things, particularly at this Tier 10 level of football. So we're going to be training three slightly different variations of a basic 4-4-2.
  2. Thursday 7th July 2022 Influx of trialists...? The Band of Three, Terry Damms (Owner / Chairman), Pat Lindley (Assistant Manager) and myself have got together and gone through the scouting shortlist, such as it is given that we have no scouting or recruitment staff and, largely based on Terry's recommendations, we've invited a raft of players to come and join us at Inkersall Road on trial.
  3. Thursday 7th July 2022 I also met the U21s I'm going to give them all a chance in pre-season so I've promoted them all to the first-team squad. Goalkeepers Defenders Midfielders Strikers
  4. Thursday 7th July 2022 I've met my first-team squad All but two of the players are new-gens and, I'll be honest, having never managed as low as Tier 10 before I have no idea whether they are any good or not. Goalkeepers Defenders Midfielders Strikers
  5. Yes, it looked like we may get a decent pay-day even from the U21 games. That makes sense. Thank you, although Tier 6 seems a long way off at the moment. Go for it... Good luck 🍀⚽️
  6. Thursday 7th July 2022 Campion want Claxton Campion, in our division, have offered Jordan Claxton a contract. -- -- We've offered Jordan a new contract.
  7. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Terry says, "No" Maybe at the end of the season... or if I'm able to add to our three man band backroom staff.
  8. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Arranged some additional friendly matches We've been able to add some more friendly games against the U21s of Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, plus Nuneaton Borough. It was hard work though, as we contacted lots of teams who told us that their schedule was...
  9. I tried arranging friendlies against bigger teams, @warlock, but it looks like I've left it too late as they all have too busy schedules.
  10. Thanks, @warlock. I did wonder from the training schedule if it would be Tuesday and Thursday, although some weeks were different on the July schedule I inherited. Good tip. Thank you. Yes, I had thought about doing just that. Appreciated. I may take you up on that. Thank you.
  11. *** HELP please! *** Lower League Training Schedules I've been playing Football Manager, and Championship Manager before that, for a long time but I've never really rolled my sleeves up and got involved in training, preferring to delegate it to my Assistant Manager. One of the things I want to do with FM23 is get my hands, or rather my football boots, muddy by getting more involved in training. Rightly, or wrongly, I thought that might be easier to do with a lower-league football club with less training sessions than with a full-time team. In preparation for this save, I've watched: -- Can you help? If you are reading this and have any thoughts, suggestions or advice for me regarding training in FM23 then I would love to hear from you. In the above post, copied below, are the details of the training schedule I'm thinking of going with... Many thanks.
  12. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Time to plan tomorrow's training session Inherited training schedule This is the training schedule that was already in place when I arrived at Staveley Miners Welfare earlier today: -- My training schedule It's too late to change tomorrow's session (I think, at least I couldn't work out how to change it) but this is what I've changed the rest of the training schedule to:
  13. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Losing a player before I've even seen him train? Terry tells me that Saffron Dynamo of United Counties League Division 1 have offered a contract to our 19-year old defender Michael Davies. Saffron Dynamo are also a Tier 10 football club like ourselves. To be fair, I don't know anything about Michael other than he started at left-back in our friendly last Saturday against Coalville Town U21s and put in a 6.4 performance. -- My player / assistant manger Pat Lindley had this to say about Michael. -- I suppose, at this stage of pre-season, it wouldn't hurt to try and talk Michael into staying at Staveley Miners Welfare.
  14. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Looks like we drew 2-2 with Coalville Town U21s last Saturday It looks like a fairly even game in terms of attempts on goal but we dominated possession. We played a 4-4-2. I have no idea how I'm going to want Staveley Miners Welfare to play yet as I haven't met the players yet, haven't seen them in training, and know nothing of note about any of them. I'm really looking forward to meeting the players tomorrow. And, although we don't have a medical team, my player / assistant Pat Lindley, tells me we have no injury worries.
  15. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Job Adverts placed I've placed job adverts for some of the vacancies we have. And, basically, if anybody applies and actually wants paying, then it's a Thanks, but NO thanks from Staveley Miners Welfare. I didn't advertise all of the potential job vacancies we have as I'm not sure we'll need a Director of Football, Head of Youth Development, or Head Performance Analyst right now.
  16. Wednesday 6th July 2022 A couple of requests, if I may please, Terry? Senior Affiliate? Oh, ok then, Terry. -- Just one more thing... Terry? Coaching Course?
  17. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Not met any players yet... Well, apart from my player / assistant manager Pat Lindley who tells me he's our "star payer in midfield who can still improve". At 28 years-old, he could well still improve... a bit... but is he our star player? They are all at work today it seems as they need day-jobs (like me) to pay the bills. -- The players are due to report for training tomorrow evening, although I can't tell from the schedule when our regular training slots are. -- And then we have an away friendly match on Saturday.
  18. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Should I advertise for additions to the three man band? Looks like we have some potential job vacancies. So, given the fact that we don't pay any staff, should I simply advertise all the vacancies and appoint anybody who applies who is willing to work for nothing? It’s not like more staff working for nothing is going to increase the wage bill, is it?
  19. I'm not sure we have a groundskeeper... but if I find out that we do I'll be sure to lavish the praise. I think my new best buddy Terry may do it himself!
  20. I'm sorry, @Pearomaniac, it looks like I already have a player / assistant manager in Pat Lindley. You are welcome to continue as a consultant advisor though.
  21. Wednesday 6th July 2022 Three man band So I got to meet my staff today... well, my new best mate Terry Damms, my player / assistant manager Pat Lindley, and myself. That's it. A three man band. -- Terry Damms - chairperson / owner -- Pat Lindley - player / assistant manager
