Two examples from two different systems I've used.  For context, these are competitive matches I've already played (so I'm not trying to set up solely to get my striker involved) against two different teams - an elite team and a mid table team.  I'm playing as West Ham, so not exactly elite ourselves.  What I've tried to do here is look at two very different matches using very different tactical systems.

Match 1 vs Man City.  I'm playing a 4411 formation, just 2 TIs, my lone striker is an Advanced Forward and we're not playing a possession style.  Man City are playing a 4123DM possession system with Aguero as a lone striker.

My striker:- 23 passes received of which 5 were throw ins.  Perfectly happy with that given the quality of opposition and our play style.

By way of comparison, here's Aguero.  26 passes received of which 8 look like throw ins.  He also scored.

Match 2 vs Crystal Palace.  Striker played as a DLF(A).  This was a possession based 4123DM system designed to smother Palace's dangerous wing play.  We won 4-0.

My striker:- again 23 passes received of which 6 were throw ins.  He also scored twice (once from a corner, one from a 1v1).  You could argue the number of passes are a little on the low side here given it's a possession system, however possession without intent is useless and you still need someone leading the line (which he did well).

As a final thought @acmilano112000, the opening post is based on a striker receiving just 2 passes the entire match which is just the sort of extreme result that would be very difficult to replicate internally.  If you haven't already, I'd suggest creating a Bug report and uploading that pkm for the devs to analyse.  There may have been tactical things you could do to get your striker more involved in that match, however regardless of that I'd expect the quality of player / team to at least make up some ground and be more directly involved in open play regardless of tactic.

the match engine would not be able to create a Rondon at Newcastle last season type of striker, or a Giroud at France type, who is dropping back a lot, not exactly a target man, but involve a lot

you cannot say it's a bug, but the ME flaws

Both shooting into side netting and 1 v 1s HAVE been acknowledged. They ARE under review.

i understand you guys have acknowledged the issue, but whats the plan on the tuning, when is it likely to be released, these are the point customers wanted to know

and tbf these issues are so obvious that the game shouldn't be released at this state

I do wonder if people who complain constantly about the ME simply, pick any random tactic, any random players and expect to win constantly. Unless you are man city, Liverpool or Barca then that simply ain’t gonna work.

I’ve played around at a lot of different teams and divisions. I mean the furthest I’ve got in any save since the first beta came out is about a year and a half in.

It’s taken a lot of learning and developing to get to a point where I’m seeing my team work well together. It’s satisfying now to see my striker scoring all types of goals consistently, and my team controlling matches. I’m Ac Milan, and at the start the team cohesion is so bad for them, it was bad watching them play and I saw a lot of misses, they couldn’t see a cross to save their lives. But now after time and work on it, they are cohesive, i see a huge difference, they are finding each other on the pitch more often. My striker is where he needs to be most of the time now. I really don’t think it’s all just down to the ME.

so do you think team cohesion is related to shoot from the byline, shoots 1v1 towards the corner flag and defenders can make 10-15 tackles per game whole season, while in real life they averaged at most 6 per game?

It seems a lot of users are having issues with FWs missing easy chances, one on ones, penalties etc. Do the developers consider this a big issue with the ME which needs addressing? Is this something that is being worked on or is it considered minor/ non issue?

Just curious if this is something we should expect to be patched in the near future?

they will update it, but the way they are handling it, i mean they didn't try to interact with us at the forum, not mentioning what they are going to do is concerning.

The PR is just not there at all

The AI can absolutely give their wingbacks/fullbacks a defend duty if they so choose (and frequently do), but how is understanding how a combination of factors work together cheating?  A lot of the time I use hardly any (if not zero) team or player instructions, so what do you define as "normal" tactics?  Genuinely confused by this comment.

because they shouldnt be doing that even if we give them the attack instruction?

I'm done for now. I got to the PL with Blackburn in two seasons, finished 12th and then just that F it. The ME just has some very annoying and unrealistic patterns. Hoping for a fix, but definitely feel completely over the game already, after playing intensely for a weekend. There were a couple of enjoyable moments, but they were incredibly short-lived and instantly swapped for more hair-pulling frustration

im going back to FM 19, never had such bad experience since started playing from FM 07/08

I also have no issues with the Wingbacks shooting into the side netting or at sharp angles. Here is my right back and his PPM's.  I play him as WB-Attack and I play at-most with a positive mentality, only increasing it to attack and very attacking if I'm behind and the match is in the latter stages. I also overlap rightside. I very rarely see him or the left back for that matter shoot. Eli had 5 shots (2 OT) in the first game, 3 shots (3 OT) in the second game, and 3 shots in the 5th game. In the other games he hasn't shot at all.  Here is a screenshot of the game when he had 5 shots.

do u only play key highlights?

My wingbacks are on support duty and I usually play with either a balanced or cautious game-plan. No PPMs on them.

Does it really matter what setting they're on, though? Should any duty in the game lead to players thinking it's a good idea to take shots from stupid angles over easy sideway passes for the tap-in - over and over again? I must've missed where it said "will shoot from 80 degree angles over and over again" when I pick a mentality/duty..

yea exactly, I dont think any fullback in real world would shoot instead of crossing even their manager told them to do all out attack.

they can say FM doesnt represents real life though

I don't think I could disagree with you more. I am extremely impressed with this match engine, and have seen some beautiful moves by my team.

It's not perfect, but I firmly believe that the FM match engine is a work in progress. There are moments or passages of play that don't reach the same heights, but I believe great strides have been made this year.

Let's have a look at my latest game; a 4-0 away win in a pre-season friendly. The first goal is a long ball down the left wing for my IF to run onto. He swings in a first time cross and my right winger gets his head on to it. The second goal stemmed from a throw in, then link up play on the wing before my winger turns inside and plays a ball across the edge of the box for my CM to run on to. The third goal saw my DLF hold the ball up deep, he sees a great run from my CM and plays a peach of a through ball on for him to knock the ball home. The last goal is a corner that my striker nodded home at the far post.

That's just one match. In my first season I've honestly seen moments that have made me go "oooh". I've seen possession play in the middle of the pitch drawing defenders in to open space for advancing full backs. I've seen wingers performing trickery to get past two defenders and lay a ball off in to the path of a team mate to take a shot. In reverse, I have seen teams sit back and pack the box, deflecting shots off left, right and center. Center Backs putting in match winning tackles to deny a goal.

That is varied football. I appreciate that maybe not every formation will see the same results. I play a 4-1-2-3. My forward sits deep and links up with attacking CMs. Out wide I tend to have one very attacking IF or winger and one winger in a support role.

FM will never equal watching a real match, but I don't ever expect it to. Perhaps you are just hard to please. Maybe it's your tactics.

it's quite simple, if SI tells us realism isnt one of the point of their game, it's okay, we wont complain anymore, but I doubt people will buy the game ever again

it's always easy to say, it's your tactics, when a match engine has been here for more than 10 years, you can still say it's a WIP, I dont know what to say

yes wide players explore space far too easily. and not only wingers. on the other hand IFs seem unwilling to cut inside regulary and preffer to dribble down the line. i wonder is that intentional - opponents showing onto weaker foot?

they do cuts inside more often than FM19 already imo, they do cuts inside and wingback can overlap now, they do crosses, where as 19 wingback just crosses into opponents legs and goes out for a corner.

According to stats, Ndidi and AWB averaged 5.4 tackles per game after 10/11 games.

In game, players are average 10 tackles per game, i once had 15 tackles a game with my WB.

Imo, this high amount of tackles is probably due to wingers mindlessly dribbling every single game

I wish you can show me a real player that can average 10 tackles per game, thanks

There doesn't appear to be any reports of this so far, so maybe nobody else has noticed or logged this.  Please report it in the relevant Bugs forum.  It is also not necessary to question the ability of the QA team when reporting an issue.

I didnt question the QA team because of this issue, I question them because shooting into the side net many times per game is happening so often in game, and they still released the game in this state, if they played two matches with the current ME could have simply noticed something is not right

The end result might be, but the in game action of how they get there isn't. Ridiculously easy one on ones constantly missed and the very well known issue of wide men shooting from the byline instead of crossing means that it's hard to watch games, even if the end result numbers seem more realistic.

yes, the 1v1 misses and wingers shoots to byline looks so forced to make the end result looks realistic, but in fact not
