Which players do you think are wrong? Please try and make sensible statements about who and what else we cant consider what you are saying.

    My personal views

Marquis - He has only played for Portsmouth for 1 full season  :) He only scored 8 goals last season from 33 matches for Portsmouth and couldn't hit a barn door - thats a fact. He played in a striking pair at Doncaster and his first season for Portsmouth played a lot as a 10. Marquis started off this season unable to hit a barn door also and his first league goal was scored with his knee. Its only really been since Jackett has moved Harness in to the 10 role that Marquis has come alive scoring 7 from 11 so far and was possibly going to play 2nd fiddle to Harrison until he got injured. His FM finishing is currently set at 13 which for L1 is pretty good and he is on a good run IRL at the moment

Curtis - he has been out of form for most of the season so far until the last few games, he admits it himself. He has had no competition on the left wing really until Jacobs arrived and was much more creative until he got injured

Morris - I actually reduced his stats between FM 20 and 21. He is still Jackett's current first choice partner with Tom Naylor. You'll also remember that Naylor, Captain, was dropped in favour of Morris for 2 play-off semi-final legs against Oxford despite being injured all season and played NO league games all season so this confirms he is quite highly thought of by Jacket. He is a good L1 player, just needed a run of games

Mnoga - Scouting means nothing, all players are getting scouted all the time, its modern football practices. I was scouted as a kid and look what happened to me :)  I believe I have correctly rated Mnoga. He has only come on as sub for just 1 league match so far! He is highly rated as a prospect by Jackett and Gallen but both say he still has a lot to learn. One of his current biggest assets at the moment is his strength and pace but if you watched the Ipswich game he nearly got sent off due a very rash tackle and was caught out a number of times by their left winger. If he gets game time in the next 4 months I will review but at the moment I feel he is correctly rated

Stanley and Rew - They have played 1 senior game in the Papa John Trophy where Jacket blooded a young side as we had already qualified from the group. They've not even been put out on loan as they aren't ready. In FM we dont set high CA or PA for players at this age with this lack of senior football, we base it on facts and there is very little to go on. If they improve we'll improve their stats, if they dont we wont or even consider reducing them. They have years to potentially develop, if they do we adjust for future FMs.  We review players several times a year and adjust if they deserve it, same has happened for Ben Close and Adam May who did progress very well as has Bass

Chairman - Do you believe everything chairman say :)  Mandaric said he would never sell the club ;) . With data we don't really make changes based on hearsay. I'll let Dean decide on what he thinks about Eric as a potential future chairman but there is nothing really concrete here. Its a bit like making player transfers in advance based on hearsay. When and if it happens a change can be made

Thank you for the responses. Marquis problems have been caused by being played incorrectly by Kenny Jackett.  As soon as he moves to two up front and he scores for fun again. Its the same in FM, you play a player in the wrong way he doesnt perform, its due to the tactics.

Every Pompey fan knows Morris playing in the play offs over Naylor, was Jackett at his worst, "Naylor isnt a summer player"! God help us. Since the early games and move to 442, Morris has been dropped, his performances terrible.

As for Mnoga and the youngsters, well I've had an involvement with Pompeys youth for many years, and helped your predecessor Mr Pompey with some details of the young players many years ago. My point is some players have pace and acceleration of 8 on the game, less than the likes of Lee Brown, but would leave Lee Brown standing over 50metres easily. They seem to be random, when things like speed are visible.

Yes scouts are everywhere, but Mnoga and Bass have had scouts watching, Bass that interested dropped at the start of the season,  but alot of potential is seen in Mnoga, hence why he wasn't loaned out.

As for the Eisner's,  well I'm no fan of them,  so happy to see them move on, on Football Manager. But I do believe they are around for the long term.

Game is fantastic, so fast as well, points not a moan, but a try to help on club I support.  Have a nice weekend.

Oh and Dean, you were a go to scout for me in FM's many moons ago, no matter what division I started in. :)

  2. A lot of the Pompey players are wrong. Marquis can't hit a barn door in the last 2 FMs but is one of the top scorers at this level. Curtis is another, but is one of the best players in the division.

Some of Morris stats are to high.

Haji Mnoga, Alfie Stanley and Harvey Rew are poor, Mnoga is being scouted by Championship and a couple of Premier teams.

In FM20 Michael Eisner also sells up because he gets old, but has stated his son Eric will one day take over the club and the club will remain in the family. Is this altered in FM21?

Go for it - rules have been bent before (not that we have any rules :D). I had an enjoyable save with Gateshead a couple of versions ago, but it looks like a much tougher challenge now.

Cheers :)  It is going to be hard, the expectation is to avoid a relegation battle.  Team is very under strength with little movement in wages for quality.

Yes. Exactly that. Combinations are important and well done for spotting that this is actually a puzzle game! It’s not breaking the ME. It’s understanding how to work with it.

No where is the game listed as a puzzle game, strategy, sports and simulation yes, so your patronising response isn't correct, is it.  The game was always about the players you sign, how you develop them and then picking formations and tactics to win.  Having to pick set combinations, is the same as a Diablo, and is shunting people people down the route of having to set their teams up in very similar ways just to satisfy a ME.  That is broken to me, and not the way FM once was.

Which is why @CFuller is suggesting OP shouldn't blame the game.... if the AI is scoring fine, then the user should be able to aswell.. it's that simple...

But the problem so many are having, is world class forwards playing for you miss sitters regularly, and then the opposition hits you with a 35yard wonder freekick.  That happens far to often.  A couple of times a season yes, but regular in defeats, no.  Whether that is an issue between how the match engine represents the result, it is the reason people are struggling.  They are being shown that they are building tactics that the match engine is showing are successful for creating clear cut chances, and is defensively sound bar for the wonder free kicks.

Telling people to slightly change a player role is silly, but only not silly if the ME is broken and using this to show flaws in your setup.  Which then begs the question, why have an ME in the first place, we should just go back to the old commentary only.

    Is he under rated?

From what i have seen and read he is supposedly lighting fast with a high workrate and mentally really tough and brave but he is quite average in the game

Any Pompey fans or people who watch league 1 regularly agree or is it accurate?

I've been a bit disappointed with the Pompey stats this season, but it does get his inconsistency right.

Easy to say, hard to be done, but if it was possible holy cow this game would rise massively (in ME terms that is)

Done some digging for quite a while and not found anything beyond 2017/18 season, even if you found a solid database, you'd most likely pay the creator who'd probably charge a bit considering how far it's been since release. If you find one thats recent for free or low price then could you let me know? thanks.

Found one on Sortitoutsi on the forums, for FM17

ME is king for me. It's why I've gone back to FM17 this week and started a new save there. Sure, the DB is out of date by a few years but I can live with that seeing as I'm playing lower league anyway. The ME is night and day to what we have in 20 (And 19 tbf). It's actually fun and enjoyable to watch and play which I can't say the same for FM20 with the current state of that ME which makes playing and watching games a complete chore and drag as it's so one dimensional, lack of variety and as someone mentioned above, feels like you're fighting against the ME to get what you want from it, in terms of results and play style.

Thinking of going back myself and looking for an updated database for it.   Sad thing was I really enjoyed the demo of FM20, wasn't as good as some, but I had fun, all went downhill when the first ME update came.

This is just based on my observation from watching youtube videos using the new beta ME since the beta wasn't released for FM Touch, but it seems like there is actually plenty of central play and goals produced from open play, when you play with more attacking mentality. So, maybe the ME is perfectly capable of producing more realistic play and scorelines, but the AI in general is too conservative? Hypothetically, if you take Barcelona for example, and if you can have Messi scoring 30+ goals, to me that would mean that maybe it is the AI's mentality levels that need to be tweaked, and not the ME itself? Just a thought.

The match starts around 12:40 in the video below. This guys has his team producing lots of chances and his strikers scoring a lot, using an attacking mentality.

Now this is really interesting.  im noticing (im playing as Portsmouth in League 1 at the mo), that all the teams are setting up very defensive against me.  Its like the AI is set to be defensive and conservative.  I'm wondering how much the morale and mentality is effecting the results we are seeing.  Everyone is saying its the ME, but what if its things in the game that are causing the ME to behave that way?  What does drive me mad is we batter a team with 70% possession, 10ccc to their none, and then I get hit with a 35yard wonder freekick. Losing 1-0

This happens a lot but what I notice is i never get a result when this happens, no matter what i do, but when in games where I have gone down to 10 men and are losing by a single goal, i regularly find an equalizer or more.  Is this because the AI because less defensive when up against a team with 10 men?

The goals scored per game is checked and compared with real life stats collected from the major leagues throughout the world. It would perhaps be fairer to judge these statistics over a full season before drawing any major conclusions.

    Prem League

Game: 31matches top scorer Mane 12 goals

Real Life 23matches, top scorer Vardy 17 goals

    Championship

Game 38matches top scorer Pereira 10 goals

Real Life: 28matches Watkins / Mitrovic 18 goals

    League 1

Game 39matches top scorer Marquis (plays for me) 12 goals

Real Life 26 matches, Toney 15 goals

    League 2

Game 40 matches Nicky Maynard 13 goals

Real Life 28 games, Doyle 23 goals

No disrespect, but the players in the game are going to really have to go some to get close those those in real life, who have played just over half the season.  This is full detail, on the beta match engine.

  11. Another thing i've just noticed.  One of my players Curtis just take a shot from 30 yards and it went wide, and his match rating dropped from 6.8 to 6.1 straight away.  By half time it was 6.0.  Seems one error wrecks the player for the whole game.  This is happening a lot with forwards, miss a chance and their morale is shot for the rest of the game and the next few.

  12. Its dumming down of the attackers in the game that is a problem.  In my game this is what I currently see against what is real life.  This is the same across every league, and im using the 20.4 engine.

  13. I don't play the offside trap, and have two CB's, one as a BPD on Def, and the other as a CB on Cover.  Center back on cover needs a bit of pace, nothing spectacular.  I am not getting caught with balls over the top at all.  I have IF's cutting in at AMR and AML, and AF upfront, im not missing through balls and scoring many of the balls over the top one on one against the computer.  What does happen a lot though is 1 miss numerous sitters throughout the game, CCC chances 6 to 8, only to concede a 40 yard free kick equalizer in injury time from a team who hasn't had a shot on goal.  Had too many of those.

  14. It's the first time since CM93, that i haven't been waiting for release date to start a new career game.  Started one on Beta on day one, and still loving it 3 seasons on, 40plus leagues and over 100k of players.  Best part is its harder to win in the Premier League than usual, top teams are so good, scoring more points than they did on previous versions, both Liverpool and Man City in the high 90s last season.

Many thanks for the hard work :)

Yes, but it's usually only there for people who want the "realism" of the first six months being with the squads clubs are actually using. In the past people have selected it, then signed a full squad on loan.

    It's better this way, IMO.

I see. Be better if they had an option for disabling the first window, and another for disabling budgets in the first window.

I don't disagree with that at all.  I've gone a week in with Torquay and have no goalkeeper for 5 months due to injuries and no way of signing an emergency one either :(
