I'll refrain from comment much on that last snarky comment there, but I will say, posting bugs here in the feedback thread is LESS useful than posting it in the bug tracker.

And please, you've been here long enough to know we mods don't have any "company line" to walk. If you haven't seen us posting very critical (yet constructive) feedback here, you haven't been paying attention, mate! Pointing to the bug tracker is just common sense.

I do agree there are too many legacy bugs in the game, and I would love for SI to focus more on those than new features going forward, just to be clear. I've posted loads of them myself over the years, as well as what I consider severely missing QoL issues.

    You’ve missed the point.

    But I respect you.

  2. Can the code please be tweaked to recognise “qualify for continental football” (or ANY promise involving a clubs inclusion to a competition) isn’t just about league finish?

I finished 10th in premier league but won the euro conference. I qualified for the euro league, a continental competition. But the code is tied to league finish.

Either players should demand a league finish position, or if, as it stands, they demand a competition inclusion, the game should recognise there is more than a league finish position to achieve it.

Now dealing with unhappy players, again, when the information presented should suggest that not to be the case.

    Irksome.

The preset "fluid counter attack" with the suggested 4-2-3-1 DM AM Wide formation is working wonders for me in tough matches with Atlético Madrid.

Because of this tactic, with almost zero tweaking, we've eliminated PSG, and we're halfway done eliminating Liverpool from the UCL. It's just insane how good presets are if you use them properly.

Here's what this looks like for me:

Normally, I would NEVER have thought to select two defend duties in defensive midfield on a cautious mentality with a low block. Why? Because I would have said, it's WAY too defensive, and we'll get penned into our own third.

Not true at all. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding in this case, is smashing the crap out of PSG and Liverpool.

The only change I made to this was changing the AMR from Winger-S to Inverted Winger-S, then I changed the right sided DM from BWM-D to DM-D   That's it!

Out of curiosity I have been playing around with this system this morning and I have to say it is really good. Considering my squad have never seen it before I am very encouraged. What is most surprising is the amount of shots and chances created. I like what I’ve seen so much that I am now training it with my squad on my main network save. I’ve been playing a 433 all save but thankfully have the midfield players to easily adapt to the 4231. I’m all up for simplicity and adaptation. This system ticks all the boxes. Will still use my attacking 433 as primary but to have this in the locker will hopefully give us a few more options.

    Thanks for posting it.

It’s a commitment they’ve made and I believe they should honour it. I hear everything you’re saying and it was fair and not in anyway negative about the woman’s football. But you have to consider that women’s football is the fastest growing part of the game. Its participation levels are through the roof and is becoming an increasingly important part of football. FM  (obviously ) is instrically about football, do you not think it’s sensible that they’re in the party and not late to the party?
yes it probably means resources are diverted but the final product success is determined by consumer choice. If we all dislike the game we won’t buy it. Yet we all still do. And I’ve been one of the biggest moaners. But it’s still light years ahead of the competition and, despite all its many faults, is a world class game. Of course it would be nice if it was perfect or near perfect but it never will be, that’s impossible.
Keep on giving constructive feedback, remind the developers where the faults are but don’t aim you ire at the development of the women’s FM game.

The problem, i feel, is TRUST. If the basics of coding were being demonstrated by SI then I don't think the, dare I say, FEAR, of adding what will be a HUGE section to the game, would be SO diluting to the enthusiasm of something that DOES need to be implemented.

Unfortunetly thats not true i think . The bug tracker is there because we all use so many different systems that they cant track them all , hence the beta versions . Take the latest update for an example .This has never happened to me but after the update my 3D game became slow and jerky and i couldnt play it , This happened to a percentage of people but others it wasnt an issue . Just because SI test it and it worked doesnt mean it isnt working on a consumers system that he / she uses . I do agree however that a certain amount of bugs that have exisisted for years should be fixed by now and im guessing they prioritise to the amount of complaints they get every year .

Either they are building up to a great new release next year or the year after or they have become stuck in where to go from here . How many more features do we really need ? because this years have fallen flat and i agree with LOKI that the womens game is being created just to satisfy the political correctness society because this is mainly a male dominated played game . Thats not to say a womens Football manager would not be good but in reality how many women play this game right now and how many will it draw to play the game .

I agree that the yearly cycle of a beta , then release , then a patch , then a update then a final update really is a bore . Subscription models just end up being a rip of for the consumer in the long run .

It's the blind "report it in the bug tracker" that is the problem and SI's refusal to fix long standing bugs. Not the bug tracker itself, which, as has been said, is useful for "new" bugs that game updates and user's individual systems throw up.

If there are SO many bugs, that have nothing to do with people's systems, or new "features", or new versions or game updates, that have been reported year after year, then SI is not putting enough resources into doing the BASICS.

The majority are not even bugs. It is just badly excecuted code. That should have been looked at by now.

My advise to SI, for what it is worth, as MANY have suggested, is to take a small step back and polish the game we all love. PRIORITISE fixing the code! Stop adding new features that create more problems to, what is, lets face it, an ancient, creaking program.

@TyburnVery useful information! Many thanks for the response. So going on what you have mentioned i can drop the shortcut into the directory? Or will i have to install into the directory of the saved skin?

Ignore the shortcut. You want the main archiver folder. Put the archiver folder into the main games folder. I’m not on pc atm. But for me, using steam, it’s the base game files in steamapps/common/fm23(21) etc.

You need to run the archiver from its folder that is IN the base games folder.

  7. Make sure the archiver is in the same directory as the data folder for the files you want to extract.

I used the FM21 archiver to unpack FM23 files (during beta) and was having this behaviour until I moved the archiver to the same folder as the files I wanted to extract.

  8. Somehow, when renegotiating James Maddison’s contract for a Leicester save, I included his wish to be the club’s penalty taker. Not a problem, as Vardy had just retired and Maddison was my best option. He was number 1 on the list of penalty takers in my tactics.

In the first few months (after he signed the contract) we had maybe 4-5 penalties. He took all of them (scored them all too). Then BAM! Out of nowhere, Maddison hates me for breaking the promise of being the clubs main penalty taker. Eh? ONLY Maddison has taken any penalties for me since the contract was signed! Especially if he was on the pitch. There “may” have been a penalty he didn’t take (at home to a Sunday League team in an early round of the ELC) where he wasn’t even on the bench. But really?? That’s enough for him to kick off?

It’s frustrating because as we all know happiness and morale (dynamics in general) are very important in the game. And this issue definitely threw a spanner at me.

I mean. It’s quite comical. It’s something that can be navigated around. But it’s logic isn’t realistic.

I normally avoid promises like the plague. Especially in contracts. This one slipped the net.

I HAVE found, this version, promises are almost unavoidable in some cases. Especially when players want to leave for a bigger club. But that’s actually ok to manage.

Not being the penalty taker when the player IS the penalty taker (like when a player wants to play a certain role and position - AND DOES) as promises, seems buggy to me.

    AVOID.

So I am trying to edit the player overview, however it keeps coming up looking like this for the player details section. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Look for player personal details panel. I think the height=“300” bit on this container isn’t the issue, but I’d play around with that too.

I think it depends heavily on what team you are. If you're Barcelona, you can probably do whatever you want with minimal changes. You know what I mean? Otherwise, a helpful thing is to check the odds before the match. If your team isn't a heavy favorite, maybe be more cautious. You can also check the team comparison in the scouting report. It might be the case that the other team excels in an area that could cause you problems, even if your team is better overall.

    So it depends!

Yes. Definitely. To HAVE to pay attention is so much more immersive than past versions of the game.

My issue is generally thinking we are better than we are. I’m 3 seasons into a save with Leicester and have now assembled a squad full of young talent. I’m talking Fati, Carmavinga and Gvardiol level talent (I’m now in debt but there you go). My issues are judging my perceived level to my actual level. And it’s been fantastic fun. Especially as I have promises hanging over me and that is requiring a lot of “managing”. But as someone said before, to actually feel like you have to “manage” games now as well as the squad is just perfect! In FM21 I could roll out one tactic, one system, all season - every season. Not now. And it’s great.

  11. Changing things up based on opponent/form/player availability/morale etc is very much a thing this year. I skipped 22 so couldn’t comment, but even from 21 the AI is waaaayy better at working you out.

I currently have 4 “styles”. All 433. One counter low block attacking, one high block high intensity attacking, one mid block balanced and one total shut out tactic. Different roles in each “style” that are all suited to my players. So far seems to be good. Changing “styles” throughout a match is nice and seamless as I have used different “tactics” to replicate instructions I would be using in certain match circumstances. I find this works better for me than trying to adjust everything on the fly.

Main trouble I have is knowing which “tactic” to start with, if all options are available.  Makes me have to ‘manage’.
