Les Girondins
on a 6600? was that a GTX or Special edition or something. Thought only 6800 required that. But there are always converters for using the normal "ide" powerconnections. Nope standard Saphire, although it was active cooling and a GT, I did see some with passive that probably don't need aux and never saw a normal 6600. So you are almost certainly better informed than me.

RFC_Fd
Cheers but anything else? That thing you were saying in post 28 - i really don't understand what you mean?
Butters76
That is correct, though it doesn't matter if it is 2.6V some of them are, but they will work fine too. Yes it will defo work. Although I would look for a 6600. Perhaps you have a friend with a GF 6-series card you could persuade to upgrade and you buy his card for a small sum I do it the other way around, when I'm about to upgrade I ask my firends if they want to buy some of my old stuff. And they always do
Butters76
Cheers but anything else? That thing you were saying in post 28 - i really don't understand what you mean? In post 28 he was talking about running recovery on your PC, (reinstalling a fresh install of WinXP from a image on a hidden partition of your HDD). This is not something you have to do as you are not changing chipset or anything. All you'll need to do is installing the drivers for the new GFX card. Allthough a reinstall/recovery is adviced now and then, depends on how much crap you install and uninstall on the PC.
RFC_Fd
So any chance you could post a link of the 6600 please? And is instaling the graphics card easy to do also instaling it's drivers?
Butters76
Damn insane prices on GF6600 in UK, For some wierd reason they charge £100-£200 for 6600. Thats more than good cards in todays standard. In norway you get them for £35-40. So you might want to go for a 6200 anyway. Theres always ebay, but buying such an old card used is scary. RFC_Fd
Cheers mate are they easy to install as i have never done one efore also, Are there drivers easy to instal?
Butters76
Yes, card is very easy to install, you can't go wrong. But you could always come back here and ask before you start. The driver is download one file, run that file and it does the rest itself. A restart after installation of driver and your good to go. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_178.24_whql.html

Anything else that would prevent me playing football manger 2009? You might run into some software issues, but nothing that isn't well documented. RFC_Fd
Sorry i did this b4 and this is what i said... It was Can i run it? So is everything covered?
Butters76
In your case very much so. You only have 512mb -32mb used for current gfx chip. Xp want over 512mb alone, at this time you are paging alot from HDD as the computer has to clear and fill the little memory you have all the time. Also, I think you only have PC-2100 (266mhz) atm and with 2GB PC-3200 (400Mhz) you will get a significant speed boost, specially in memory hungry apps like FM. RFC_Fd
Thanks again. And also when instaling the GFX card unscrewing the screws is it true you need to use a certain type of screwdriver?
Butters76
standard philips head screwdriver unless Packard Bell are FUBAR.
RFC_Fd
it says AGP8x on the GFX card what is this and doesit make a difference? Edit: will it also contain 3d accelerator pixel shader 2.0 as well?
Butters76
Accelerated Graphics Port (66Mhz) running at 8x speed. 8x 66Mhz. There were AGP, AGP 2X, AGP 4X, AGP 8X Edit: Yes and Yes shader model 3 http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce6_techspecs.html
RFC_Fd
cheers, i have just watched a video on how to install them and it says watch i might be too big. Do you think this will fit fine?
Butters76
Yes I do. You might in worst case have to move a PCI card to a lower PCI slot. Thats worst case scenario. You have a miditower. If you had a minitower with mini-ATX motherboard it could have been a problem.
RFC_Fd
So i guess that is everything covered... Just again i want to thank you for your help and the others hopefully i will now be able to play FM09!

Les Girondins
Keep us posted on this. Be interesting to see how it all turns out - maybe a good example of the 'upgrade' for FM topic we see so often.
