TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Share Posted March 10 GENERATIONAL MANAGER Since my last save got corrupted I have decided to do a save which is pretty rule light in terms of clubs more rule heavy on the manager. The goal of the save is to have a series of managers that have a career and stick to a philosophy, formation and ambitions that will change with each manager. The game will only encompass the top 20 European leagues. They will be loaded from the start and we can only manage in those leagues. We will be starting with a manager at 26 years old and he must retire at the latest at 75 years old. Once he retires we then take over with a new manager, likely a descendent of the previous manager and they will have a different philosophy, formation and ambition. For our first manager we are starting with Juan Salazar from Hellin, Spain, born on the 13th September 1996. He starts with a Continental Pro Licence. He was a coach at the Real Murcia Under 19s before branching out getting his first Head Coach job at the age of 26 with Gernika, in the Basque Country, who are in the Segunda Federacion - Grupo II, our the fourth tier of Spanish football. His Formation is the following and he will not adapt from it during his career He operates with a 4-2-3-1 and looks to attack responsibly. Much like many in Spain he favours a short passing style, but heavily focussing on the wing. The goal is to retain possession and play quick. In transition he favours a counter-pressing style to draw quick counter attacks from the opposition. Out of possession he will hold a high line, and press the press high. In terms of his philosophy at a club, he doesn't have a preference as to the age of the players, he will manage with what he has and will work under the resources he is given. In terms of his ambitions, he will move clubs if he feels that the new club will offer him a better chance at winning silverware, and does not feel particularly loyal to any club even where he has been for a long while. At the same time money doesn't really matter too much for him and he won't move to a club because they are offering him more money than where he currently is. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 GERNIKA (SPAIN) AUGUST 2023 MANAGER THOUGHTS In August we had five pre-season friendlies against some local sides and we things went very well as we picked up 4 wins and a draw, which is good preparation for the league campaign that is coming up. Elsewhere we have been adding some staff, there has been some difficulty in finding staff for some positions such as scouts and the Director of Football, we have however managed to get in a coach and some analysts that will help. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 (edited) GERNIKA (SPAIN) SEPTEMBER 2023 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We have had a very good start to the season and find ourselves up in second place, following 4 wins and 2 losses. I felt we were unlucky in our loss against Utebo, the sending off really damaged our chances of coming back in that game and against Sociedad C we were quite poor and deserved to lose. However the wins have been good especially routing Logrones, one the pre-season favourites for the league. Ariel Ortega has been the pick of the players so far this season with three goals and two assist. Arzalluz is the top goalscorer but to some degree he has been quite wasteful this season and I would like to see him be a little more clinical in front of goal as he currently is underperforming his XG by almost three goals across just 5 starts and substitute appearance. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 GERNIKA (SPAIN) OCTOBER 2023 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We had a decidedly worse month in October as we conceded a lot of goals this month. Perhaps more disappointing was the fact that on the stats we seemed to have the better of every game we played, but we just ship too many goals at the moment. We did get back to winning ways at the end of the month with a couple of wins that made things a little more pleasant. Still, so far it's been a good start to the season and we still sit towards the top of the league table. Xabier Garzon has come into the team and been extremely good when called upon so that has been a positive this month. The main negative with the squad has been injuries we suffered quite a few of them, and have essentially have both right backs out and the left back out for the month. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 GERNIKA (SPAIN) NOVEMBER 2023 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Another topsy turvy month as we got a couple of wins, a draw and a loss. We continue to be the team with more chances in almost every game but we don't always put the chances away. However having said we are having a good season as we push up to 2nd place in what is becoming a very constrained top of the league. In the squad we now have a full squad to pick from as the injury crisis has passed. Arzalluz despite having missed a fair few chances is bagging a lot of goals for us as he moves onto 12 goals for the season in 14 starts. Also worth mentioning is the importance of Jon Agirrezabela from right back who is having a fine season and leads us for assists this season with six. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 (edited) GERNIKA (SPAIN) DECEMBER 2023 SQUAD NEW CONTRACT MANAGER THOUGHTS A perfect month for us as we get three big wins, and two of them against teams near us at the top of league. Doing that meant that we finished Christmas and New Year on top of the league which is a great achievement, and we now need to kick on an maintain that if we can. Arzalluz and Agirrezabala continue to be standout players, the former now moving on to 15 goals for the season and he seems to be really in fine vein of goalscoring form at the moment. The other big news was that we signed a new two year deal. It is still very early in Salazar's career so that is a nice reward for the team having played so well. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 GERNIKA (SPAIN) FEBRUARY 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS If you were a Gernika fan watching us in February you could be sure what the result of any league match would be as we participated in four 3-1 scorelines. However we only won two of them. The first game against Egues was pretty shocking from us as we just kept missing chances and that continues to be a problem we have from our game where we generate a lot of XG but put a fraction of the chances away. The positive is that it hasn't done us much damage at the top of the league as we maintain a five point lead. Really I have to say we are performing a lot better than most expected and that is great to see. We can start dreaming of a potential promotion but we do have to improve defensively and being more clinical would surely help us a lot. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 (edited) GERNIKA (SPAIN) MARCH 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Despite a poor start to the month and a baffling loss to Sociedad C, where they had three shots and they scored three goals, we are looking like we may not be stopped this season as we open up a seven point gap at the top of the league table. We managed to reduce a bit the goals that were entering our net and we were not too bad in front of goal especially towards the end of the month. A good month next month should really put things beyond doubt. In terms of the squad, Arzalluz continues to find the net and has 20 goals for the season and has put right the XG underperformance he had from early in the season. Carlos who has not been highlighted from full back has been pretty excellent of recent and he has become the top assistmaker at the club. This month particularly Kepa Vietas as been pretty impressive for us as he won two man of the match award in the win over San Juan and Arenas. The final news is that we have now more or less been able to assemble the backroom staff especially in the problem areas of Scout and Director of Football. The people we have got are not top tier but at least we know have scouting proceeding which will be very helpful for the coming transfer windows as so far we have not brought anyone into the club at all and have just worked with the team we have. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 GERNIKA (SPAIN) APRIL 2024 TRANSFERS SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Despite losing the opening game of the month, the win the next week was enough to confirm us as champions, when the chasing pack could not get a win midweek. It's been an amazing season for us, we were expected to finish mid-table but we have been up and around the top of the league since the very start. There is still one league game to go in May, but it doesn't much matter to us as we can prepare the promotion party. We started the work in the transfer market early. With the promotion guaranteed the board have given us money to spend and we went out and signed Jorge Ortiz, the journeyman has been all around Spain, orginally starting at Getafe before making a tour of the country over the years. He should add a fair bit in the advanced positions, and we have even been able to register him for the end of this season. As we approach the end of the season, the squad has done brilliantly to get us to where we have gotten. The liked of Arzalluz, Carlos and Agirrezabala have been instrumental this season in us getting promoted. TerminalPortugal Posted March 10 Author Share Posted March 10 (edited) GERNIKA MAY 2024 & END OF SEASON REVIEW SUPPORTER PROFILE & TEAM OF THE YEAR STADIUM MOVE SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We managed to win the final game of the season to end the season on a high. In the end we won the league by eight points from Naxarra, which was a fantastic achievement as I said in the last post. We will be working in the off-season to hopefully build a side that will be able to survive in the division above, although I am sure that will not be an easy task. The club gained a few followers from the successful season rising to 20,800 followers in total. Next season we will be playing at the Nuevo Mazo in Haro, as our current stadium does not meet minimum standards. TerminalPortugal Posted March 11 Author Share Posted March 11 (edited) GERNIKA (SPAIN) JULY 2024 LEAGUE PREDICTION MANAGER THOUGHTS We started our pre-season with our first friendlies of the season and we have done pretty well. the loss to Vizela was pretty expected since the Portuguese side outclass us substantially but we did get two wins to boost morale. In other news the league prediction table has come out and we are expected to finish 17th which would see us relegated since there are five relegation places in this league. Perhaps more importantly we were really dominant against Nastic in the opener and then battle for victory in the second which shows the qualities of the team that I think will give us a chance of staying up. TerminalPortugal Posted March 11 Author Share Posted March 11 GERNIKA (SPAIN) SEPTEMBER 2024 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS It has been a great month for us as we remain undefeated in the league. Barcalona Atleti will likely walk away with this league at least if the early going is any indication of things to come but I am very proud to see us in second place. We have had some very impressive wins beating Real Union away 6-0 and Tarazona 5-1 at home, it's great to see. So far when it comes to the team Jorge Ortiz who came in at the end of last season has settled well and has six goals in 8 appearances to his name. Angel Garcia has also been very impressive from the left back spot, getting five assists in 8 games, he looks to be the creative force behind the team at the moment. We are already doing fanstastically well. We aren't safe yet but another month like this and we can start to perhaps consider further targets for the season. The win at the end of the month was much needed otherwise it was looking a little bleak. In fairness we are still very well placed at the moment as we sit fourth in the league and things are still looking very positive. In terms of the squad, we have picked up a few injuries to a few key players but it is manageable. Ortiz now has seven goals and Garcia leads the assist charts despite the injury he has picked up. The results keep us in the promotion hunt for now and we are now 11 points clear of the relegation places so that is all positive. In other news we had an interview offer from Ibiza, but they are from the division below, and based on the personality of the manager there would be no upside in his mind to move to them. It still keeps us in promotion playoff area of the league table which is great for us. We also managed to get through in the First Round of the Copa del Rey and we will face a massive test in the next round as we will host Valencia. In terms of the squad the best performers are probably Asier Parra and Angel Garcia at the moment for the side. TerminalPortugal Posted March 12 Author Share Posted March 12 GERNIKA (SPAIN) JANUARY 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We continue to battle in the league and we continue to hang on to the final playoff spot and it continues to be very tight at the top of the table, Barca Atleti excepted from that as they are walking away with the league and remain unbeaten. In the cup we gave Valencia a very uncomfortable 120 minutes, and they only just got past us with an extra time goal which is a credit to the side. We just need to take the final steps and assure ourselves a spot and then it just comes down to one off games. The big news was that our exploits have finally got us on the radar of a club that Juan would be willing to move to and that was not Spain but in Belgium. Gent a pretty big side in the country are interested. We have attended the interview and we will see if we end up being first choice one their process ends. TerminalPortugal Posted March 12 Author Share Posted March 12 GERNIKA (SPAIN) MARCH 2025 SQUAD JOB OFFERS MANAGER THOUGHTS A good month for us on the pitch as we managed to keep ourselves going in the playoff picture, we even managed to inflict the first defeat of the season on Barca Atleti which was a great achievement considering the kind of pace they have been setting this season. In terms of our career, we will not be the new manager of Gent as they passed up on us to give the job to Frederik Vanderbiest, so we will have to wait for our first move. It was a perfect month for us as we took three wins from three. Barca Atleti also confirmed themselves as champions this month, they deserve it as they absolutely blew the league away and lead us by 20 points. We have one more game in the league season to go and then we will be in the playoffs. It has been a great achievement for us considering there was an expectation that we would probably be relegated to do so well this season. TerminalPortugal Posted March 12 Author Share Posted March 12 GERNIKA (SPAIN) JUNE 2025 CONTACTS SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS Well we managed to do it. We will be playing the Second Division next season. We were pretty brilliant in the promotion playoffs beating Cordoba handily with the first leg being the key an then beating Teruel over two legs to secure promotion. We were offered a new contract prior to the playoffs and there were two reasons why we didn't renew it, firstly I think the manager would think they were trying to secure our signature at a lower price, and secondly there has been some outside interest. Our contract does expire at the end of the year, so we will probably move onto a rolling contact for a while and see if there are better suitors out there and then if not before the new season starts we will sign a new deal with the club. Whether we will be a Gernika for the start of next season is still very much a question without a conclusion, but if we get to the end of July and there isn't much movement in the manager market then we will likely sign a new deal at the club. TerminalPortugal Posted March 13 Author Share Posted March 13 GERNIKA (SPAIN) END OF JUNE & JULY 2025 STADIUMS TRANSFERS LEAGUE PREDICTION RESULTS MANAGER THOUGHTS We came into the pre-season needing reinforcements, and we missed out on quite a few targets, but in the end we got in players that should improve the team. Whether they will improve it enough to survive in this division is another question. The bookmakers don't seem to think it will be enough considering we are ranked bottom of the league not counting the B sides for larger sides which don't get any odds. There are four relegation places so I think it will be very tough to keep us up this season but we will try. We signed a new one year deal, we did it pretty early on as there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of jobs available at the moment that would seem like progress to us. It might mean we are easier to sack, but it's just a risk that I would be willing to take. In terms of the friendlies they have gone very well so far, it seems like the team has adapted well with the new personnel and all we can hope for is that that is able to continue. That could be very important come the end of the season if things start to turn against us as the season wears on. A great start for the team and we find ourselves up in 3rd place at this early stage of the season. So far it has been two of the new signings in Hugo Bacharach and Edu Viana who have put in the best performances for us, averaging a 7.46 so far this season. TerminalPortugal Posted March 13 Author Share Posted March 13 GERNIKA (SPAIN) SEPTEMBER 2025 SQUAD MANAGER THOUGHTS We are absolutely flying at the moment, we just keeping winning game after game and it is putting us in a great position to the point where we can probably start thinking away from a relegation battle although that is still very much a possibility if results take a turn for the worst. Bacharach continues to be the standout player, he is the top goalscorer from defensive midfield of all places and seems to be dragging us through the games at the moment. We are still well placed when it comes to the league and relegation this season is looking remote, which really was the goal of the season.
