Comparing / explaining performance differences

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Trying to understand why my right winger is underperforming despite having much better stats than the alternatives, who are overperforming. These are the three players in question:

Roony (Underperforming), Wilson (Massively Overperforming), Asprilla (Overperforming).

As you can see Wilson outperforms Roony in most metrics others than dribbling.

This is the tactic (high tempo, high pressing):

(Recently took "tackle harder" off Roony. His tackling was 3/20 earlier in the year and I moved him to the defensive training group and now it's improved)

Comparison:

It seems to me the main differences are:

  • Defensively Roony sucks. His 3-5 tackling sees him give away move fouls. He also has the lowest aggression stat of the 3 which in a high pressing system may be crucial.
  • Roony has better work rate, team-work, and all physicals, I don't understand why his sprints/90 and distance covered /90 are lower.
  • Their PPMs I think are significant. Wilson and Asprilla have "likes ball played to feet".

Adaptation shouldn't be an issue as Roony has been with us for 2 seasons.

Wilson is a team leader and Roony is an "other":

Anyway - any thoughts welcome!

I'd start by summoning him to my office and criticize his recent form. You mentioned the tackling, I'd certainly put him on "Ease off", but I doubt that's his troubles. Plays ball to feet might be good since he's small. I mean sometimes a player's bad form is not getting the ball much so he doesn't get a chance to perform. In the end, he's still 19 so it might just be growing pains. I think it's certain he'll be world class at some point with some game time.

Yes!! The smalleness! Hadn't thought of that. Who knows what kind of service he was getting, poor little dude.

It's interesting, it's not just that he's performing badly in comparison to Wilson but he's also not even trying to do as much as Wilson. A great example if you're on a budget why stats led recruitment works nicely in the game too when you consider Wilsons valuation.
