The aim, to take Odense Boldklub to Champions League glory through only signing Scandinavian players and promoting players from the Youth Intakes.

Odense Boldklub

The Club last won the Danish First division in 1989, runner up in the early 2000's three times in a row. But since then has dwelled in mid table mediocraty. 

Perfect for us to rescue and take to not only national glory but continental glory.

Pre Season

In Preseason we looked to gain fitness, match sharpness and tactical familiarity, despite the results and busy schedule i believe we achieved this.

 

 

The preseason preview had us finishing in mid table although our objective has to be achieving european qualification of some standard

Some improvement in the staff was made with more to come, to enable us to progress on and off the field.

A positive first two games, although we lost to Randers, scoring 6 goals in two games is important for the season, and shows we have the ability to win games going forward

A fantastic month where we go unbeaten, only conceding 2 goals in 5 games against a unexpectedly over performing Viborg side. 

Kadrii is on fire this month!

I cant help but feel dissapointed in opportunities missed this month, the draw to Silkeborg is frustrating while dominating, then a fully rotated team was knocked out by only two shots on target!

We remain second which is a champions league place, which would be a fantastic achievement in season 1

November 2021

Another unbeaten month with 7 points out of 9 leading into the winter break. Comfortably second from Viborg but Copenhagen are far superior to anyone in this league and will be a challenge to topple.

Mid Season Break

We signed 3 players over the break before the resumption of the league, to bolster our immediate 1st XI.

FIrst incoming was Gustav Berggren, a powerful Swedish BBM as Brandarson hadnt quite managed to make the position his own due to injury and and mediocre performances. 

 

Second to sign for OB was Emiliano Marcondes, a fantastic deputy in either the DLF or AM position, he should push Kadrii and Jebali for a starting spot

The third and final signing was a pre contract for Desler, a Home grown at club player who will slot straight in at RB next year

January Sales

In order to fund these purchases we had to sell the following squad players who didnt really fit in our side, 1st XI or backup so I decided to cash in while there was interest.

Preliminary Phase Run in

Two friendlies to get the lads fitness back up and give the new signings a run out. Two clean sheets always a bonus with our First game back being against league leaders Copenhagen.

We have comfortably positioned ourselves into second place.

3/6 points a decent return from two difficult fixtures, Copenhagen only scored through a penalty, and were comfortable against Midtjylland.

March 2022

As the last round of fixtures came around, 5 teams could still qualify in the last two spaces for the Championship group, thankfully we saved our fingernails a long time ago.

We had another 100% month without conceding a goal:

And the table finished as so, with Brondy firing their manager as a result.

Im confident with the lead we have over Viborg we will finish in the second champions league place.

A strong first 3 fixtures really boosted my hopes of catching Copenhagen, unfortunately we just came the wrong side of the result, and then a fully rotated side lost to Midtjylland 4 days later. 

However we did ensure second place which has put us into the second qualifying round for the Champions League, 3 ties away from the £12,000,000.00 on offer for group stage qualification!

May 2022

An unbeaten month, and a result against Copenhagen that we can take into next year. 

On the whole a fantastic season way above where i thought we would come, i was hoping for european football but not to be way above other teams that we never really looked troubled in Champions League qualification.

 

Final standings had Midtjylland get Europa league and promoted side Viborg secure Europa League 2 football for next season. 

I expect next year to be much tougher as Brondby and Nordsjaelland bounce back and for Midtjylland to but a tougher prospect.

Pre Summer Squad

The top performers in the league:

Nice to have so many OB faces in here, shows what a good season we had to feature an OB player in every catagory we would want. 

Kadrii was easily player of the year from AM, however i never saw Svendsen ending with the amount of goals he came away with, if there is interest in him in the summer the offers may be too good to turn down.

Season 2

Lets hope we dont hit second season syndrome, as expected there was interest in our players, and we had some strengthening to do to remain competetive on two fronts rather than one this year. 

The budget was tight, so it was players out to get players in:

 

 

Svendsen the big one, £7.5m straight up, the chairman went over my head and said it was an offer we couldnt refuse, I agree, it sets us up nicely. 

I couldnt find much in terms of value in the market for the areas we needed to strenghten, so I decided to approach for backup players on loan in Jensen and Omar, who can definitely make a difference rotationally. 

Kairinen will be the new Regista, he is much better than Makhedjouf and Tomassen.

Vilhelmsson has potential and has key attributes in the right areas for a Poacher

Two strong signings coupled with Desler arriving on his precontract.

3 pretty easy and routine friendlies to get some miles in the legs. 

Champions League Qualification

We blew it.... although two hard draws, i was surprised we got past Fenerbache and when we drew away at Salzburg I thought it was on, however not to be this year. 

We have lost the second Champions league spot too, so only the league winners make the Champions League qualifying stages, the other 3 go to the Europa Cup II. Devastating!

Superliga July and August

A fantastic unbeaten start, July was a tricky month well negotiated. A full green month August but too many goals conceded for my liking. Were joint top with Copenhagen, just cant be dropping points against the lower table now.

September and the Vilhelmsson show

Weve had to rotate a lot due to the busy fixture list, everyone has had a chance, and Vilhemsson has taken his, Im considering giving him the starts over Jebali now as he has not dissapointed in any game. 

Europe has not started well with two defeats, but the win agains Ferencvaros gives us a glimmer of hope to the knockouts. 

The league again is great only conceding 1 goal and taking all 9 points.

October 2022

A mixed month, realistically weve had decent games and performances but I feel like weve dropped points against Viborg and Midtjylland.

The loss to Nordsjaelland was dissapointing but was a fully rotated team, in light of the next two games, we needed to beat Copenhagen to hope to gain some ground on them.

Europa League - two more wins, 6 points, Brugge in the last game, 3 points and we are into the knockouts, NO PRESSURE!

We did it, with ease, 2-0 at home to Club Brugge, immense! 

Frustration with the draw agains Horsens as Copenhagen lost to Bromby! A real chance missed. 

Qualified for the Championship group, but we need to keep going, and try and gain some points on Copenhagen into the run in

January Transfers and the off season 2022/23

We sold backup players to be able to fund investment in youth and to improve the team at LB,

Out goes:

Mande - Never made the grade and had two in front of him, we managed to save his wages mainly

King - back up and to be improved upon with Risa. 

Mickleson - fell down to third with the arrival of Desler

In comes:

Risa - an impressive LB that strenghtens the squad now. 

 

Mid Pre Season

Ludogorets was a hard first game back, but after that we achieved a winning mentality and fitness ready to restart after the winter break.

Heartbreak, we lose to Salzburg, I have to take responsibility for the loss, I went too attacking thinking it was a two-legged affair, it wasnt.

Having the home advantage we should have really tested them more, dissapointment but the bar is set for next year, progress is important to get our coefficient back up.

Two easy wins in the cup and league, Jebali hitting form at the right time with 6 goals in 2 games!

March 2023 - End of the Preliminary Phase

I have to have mixed emotions here, to finish top is fantastic and shows we are at a level to compete with Copenhagen. 

But losing 3-0 to Brondby came from no where, a total annihilation, we just did not turn up. 

To rub salt into the wounds Copenhagen lost 1-0 to Midtjyalland at home, so we could have been 3 points clear which hurts. 

Brondby miss out again, Jurgen Klinsmen was hired at the start of the season after missing out last year, and then on the 1st of January he resigned and took the Danish national team job!

a loss to Copenhagen, gutting, giving them the advantage, but after that 4 fantastic wins on the bounce and then we dont give any more ground on the leaders, keeping right on their tail. 

A draw at home to Nordsjaelland sets up the second leg nicely, at home I was expecting a win but with a fully rotated side I cant be surprised we couldnt put the tie to bed.

Youth Intake 2023

A very decent intake, some strong prospects with 7 of the crop being offered deals.

Momme - Looks a real talent and will be trained as the DLF

Romer - A strong prosepct at 15 will be 1 of 3 good prospects we have in Goal

Jacobsen - Doesnt look too special but I reckon he could come on a bit and be a solid rotaional Regista going forward.

Sydbank Pokalen Final

WINNERS!!!! And its that man again, Jebali, he has been fantastic this season, scoring a bucket load of goals from the Poacher role. 

He has won games for us on his own and has not only kept us in the title race but has won our first piece of silverware

May 2023

The run in looks good, 4 games to take the tital, we have already played Copenhagen on 30/4 and drawn 1-1 which in the context was a fantastic result, as you can see by the form they are stuttering.

4 draws in their last 5 is where we have caught them up.

Its all in our hands now.

Im hoping being the nearly men is not going to stick for the rest of the save!

Gutting to miss out by one point when it was in our control!

we had to rotate against Silkeborg as the lads were fatigued and we had some injuries come through.

Copenhagen won their last 4 as you might expect and pip us to the tital by a point!

AGF and Horsens go down. Will take a look at AGF's players as they had a few good lads in their that kept cropping up on the scouting results. Perhaps a bargain may be on the cards.

End of 2022/2023 Round up

Although we finished in the exact same positin as last year, second to Copenhagen, I think we can class it as a successs and improvement

 - We closed the gap to Copenhagen to just 1 point

 - We competed in Europre but got a tough draw in the first round. 

 - We won the cup, thankfully another team knocked Copenhagen out but we still had to beat the rest.

New Season 2023/2024

Objectives:

- Win the league

- Win the cup

- Get through to the knockout stages of the Europa Cup II.

Transfers

IN

Hausner and Carlen come in as 1st team improvements

Carlen a strong and combative midfielder who will be our new CM on defend

Hausner a CB who can improve with us.

Tangen was highlighted to me to be availble for loan, he is better than Kadrii and has an option to buy for £2.5M. If he performes we will exercise it. 

Hjulmand is a promising Danish midfielder who could play any of the back 3 midfield positions

 

Out

We had a £7.25m bid for Marcondes from Bristol City, but he didnt want to leave. Vilhelmsson also had bids but we refused to sell, hes too important, not that hes happy about that.

Positive fitness builders in a tour around Holland. 

Pleased with the performance levels heading into the season opener.

A dissapointing start to the League, we just werent firing up top. 

I have replaced Jebali with Vilhemlsson in the starting role as the former is 32 now, and i dont want to stunt Vilhelmssons growth

I presumed we would have taken bids for Jebali after his 30 goals last season, but not even an enquiry. 

A good start in the Europa cup II qualifying too away at Kristiansund.

What a fantastic month, 100% record, beating Copenhagen and absolutely smashing AA Gent when I thought we may well struggle to progress in a touch draw.

Marcondes, Jebali and Kadrii have started amazingly again.

I was worried that I hadnt improved the defence enough this year. 

But not the case they have been like a brick wall.

We are top after 6 games, Nordsjaelland seem to have improved this year and should be more of a challenge.

Europa Cup II Group

I Expect us to get 2nd place, we cant challenge Leicester, I dont expect us to, but we will look for 12 points from the other 4 games.

A tale of two halves, a good first half but the loss to Cherno and Esbjerg just puts pressure on ourselves. Lets hope for a better November where are forwards start firing again.

A perfect month, 5 wins, 10 goals, 1 conceded and safetly through to the knockout rounds of the Europa Cup II and the Quarter Final of the Sydbank Pokalen.

We also stay top of the league with Copenhagen hot on our heels. 

Although December doesnt look easy! Copenhagen in the league, home and away in the cup and then Leicester in our final group game!

December 2023

Unbeaten against Copenhagen in 3 games ,including beating them away from home in the league!

We take a 5 point lead into the Championship group with Nordsjaelland jumping into 2nd!

The Sydbank Pokalen now looks like ours to lose and I think we can get past Belgrade in the Europa Cup II. 

Looking at the rest of the teams in the Europa cup II I think we have a chance to push to the latter stages and maybe go all the way!

Mid Season Review

A quick aside before we look into our top performers, the youth intake preview, fingers crossed for some real talent coming through!

No changes to the tactic this year, its working well, we have players now in every position that perform comfortably in their role. 

Our top performer has been Kadrii, he has been on fire with 18 goals and 4 assists from 23 starts in all competitions. scoring every 89 minutes in the league. 

Our strikers have stumbled slightly this year as I have looked to give minutes to Vilhelmsson over Jebali.

My concern is the age of the squad, we arent getting any younger, there will be a huge turnaround in the summer as we are letting 5 players go and will consider offers for Jebali and Kadrii as they enter their last year at 33 and 32 years of age. 

My challenge is no one from the B team or U19s are ready to take the squad roles that are being vacated, nor will I have the funds to sign competent replacements in each position.

But first we have the rest of the season to think about.

Mid Season Break

Thankfully a queit January and a decent run of fixtures against more challenging teams to prepare us for the European knockout rounds. 

Dissapointing to concede in 3/5 games but unbeaten is another positive to take.

February 2024

As we knew before the break we had Red Star to overcome in the next round.

 

 

Thankfully all went to plan, even if we made it difficult, a hard fought and well earned draw away from home. 

However we decided to let Res Star score in the 89th and 90th minute. Meaning we had to rely on the lottery of Penalties, a luxury we cannot afford to give our next opponents im sure. 

3 points secured against Midtjylland inbetween.

Hoffenheim will be no easy task.
