Select nations at start of game

Hello all,

 

I am brand new to the game, just picked up FM 2022 touch on switch a few days ago. Most things i have been able to figure out except:

 

The game asked me to select 5 nations at the start. What does selecting them do exactly? The game didn't indicate what happens with the selected nations.

 

Sometimes the game shows me an overview of all the matches going on today and it's fun for me to look at. I can't find this screen on my own though. I can see my own schedule, how do I pull up one for all the current and upcoming games taking place?

You will be able to manage in those nations and they'll generally be more active (transfers, appointing staff etc) than unselected nations/leagues.
