Starting at the Bottom - Early Slump?

Hey folks, new FM 21 player. I'm interested in the "starting at the bottom" approach, so I've started with Alfreton in Vanarama. I've managed to upgrade my team so that all of my starters are 3+ stars in the role they are in. Still a work in progress. But I'm still getting crushed. Four games into the season, I haven't won a game yet. I haven't gotten a draw. I haven't even scored a goal! 

Part of this could certainly be that my staff aren't good enough at talent evaluation. What are some obvious other things I should look at?

One thing to note with the star ratings is that they are only relevant to your players. They have no bearing or make no comparison to other players in the league.

In terms of how you're playing, I'd recommend posting your tactic in the tactics forum and noting where in particular you're struggling to see if any of the tactics gurus can help you out.
