Posted March 21, 2012 Author Share Posted March 21, 2012 SEASON 2011/12 PAYS BASQUE NATIONAL TEAM A sensational season for the international team - winning 6 out of 6 including that thriller against Catalonia. All of these matches were of course friendlies, but there are competitive fixtures on the horizon. The Basque have been drawn into a tough group for the World Cup qualifiers, with England and Ukraine the big guns they'll have to muscle alongside. They have of course taken the place of Andorra so were already in the European Championships qualification, but had already failed to qualify, so just take those games as friendlies. The two games against Slovakia were as Andorra, so ignore those, but the games against Armenia, Macedonia, Russia and Ireland were WC qualifying games, and all very disappointing at that. After a disappointing start against the Basque, and the friendlies that followed, Catalonia turned it around with a solid couple of wins over Luxembourg and Cyprus, and a great win over Italy. They lost against Italy in a second friendly, but achieved a well earned draw in Mexico. They have an even tougher EC qualifying group than the Basque, and will do well to finish in the top half of it. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
