<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Poom: 'This is a fantastic move and a big chance for me'

Mart Poom admits his move to Arsenal came “out of the blueâ€.

The keeper completed a loan deal from Sunderland on deadline day and will stay at Highbury until January 1. The move ends a difficult spell for the experienced Estonian international; a long-term knee injury has kept him sidelined since October 2004.

It meant he was desperate to play once more and could not believe his good fortune when Arsène Wenger came calling.

“I only knew last week,†he told Arsenal.com. “It really came out of the blue but it is a fantastic move for me considering I missed most of last year with an injury and did not start this season as a No 1.

“My last game was in October last year so I feel this is a big chance for me. It has been very frustrating, you just ask any player who is out for a long time.â€

Poom will compete with Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia for the No 1 jersey at Highbury. He respects his new team-mates and is happy to bide his time.

“The competition is great in any Premiership club,†he said, “but Arsenal are one of the major clubs in the world. Jens and Manuel are top keepers so I’ll just do what I can when I am needed. Arsenal play many games so they need a big squad.â€

Dortmund had offered the Czech international a new contract but, after much deliberation, he has refused stating that he is looking for new challenges abroad.

"Together with the club's superb fans I want to enjoy a fine season and end my spell with a successful outcome," Koller told the club's official website.

The club's director of sport, Michael Zorc, was disappointed that Koller, who is popular with the fans, will not be staying.

"We regret his decision not accept our offer for a new contract, but will have to accept it," he commented.

Koller joined Borussia Dortmund in 2001 from Belgian side Anderlecht and played a vital role in helping them lift the Bundesliga title the following year.

It is thought the 32-year-old striker will head to England when his contract runs out next summer, having been linked with Sunderland earlier this year. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

funny article on Arsenal World for all the moaners out there...

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> ... Just how useless are we? - A tribute to the moaners of this world.

Lehmann - A Liability, managed to go 49 games unbeaten, will want to really impress this year as the World Cup is in his own country, but I listen to the blokes down the Pub who read the Sun, and they say he's ****. So thats that.

Ashley Cole - Best left back in the world. Has looked committed and wanting to prove his loyalty so far. But I hate him because he spoke to the chavs. Therefore he is ****.

Gael Clichy - Potentially Better than the best left back in the world. But hes young, so bring back Nutty.

Senderos - Awesome, but he looked dodgy once in one game and is too young. The next Tony Adams? Possibly, but doesn't deserve the chance, we should spend £80million on Nesta. Or something.

Toure - One of the most versatile, dynamic and consistant defenders in the PL. Never gets the credit he deserves, has a great engine. Came from Beveren though, so is therefore not good enough for AFC, with its proud history of Colin Pates' and Andy Linighans.

Sol Campbell - Fat bastard. used to be great. One of the best CBs in the world this time last year. But I havent seen him for a few months and therefore assume he is **** cos he never plays for Ingerland.

Lauren - ******. Always lets us down. So what if hes committed, passionate and pacey, there are at least....ummmmm...well, why don't we sign that nice Gary Neville? He's great.

Pires - Past it, only scores nearly 20 goals a season from midfield. We need someone like Kewell or Davies.

Gilberto - World Cup winner, the invisible wall, and nearing his peak. Performs a necessary task in the midle that we missed last year, but he can't score from there, so I hate him. Put Jenas in instead.

Cesc - Widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the league by the experts. If he played for Man Utd or Chelsea you would never hear the end of it, but he is small, and he is young. Not good enough. We need a dirty cripple in the middle like Keane or Davids, not a player with the potential to be a world beater and have all the fancy flicks.

Flamini - We missed Ray Parlour last year. What we don't need is a like for like replacement though who is French. Seems Passionate, is again too young and cheap.

Ljungberg - Too much experience, cares too much and is one of the only players who likes to get in the box. Sell him, he's no Dyer or Duff, so we should lose him.

Hleb- Despite signing no-one this summer, we somehow find ourselves with this £10million rated little beaut who lit up the Bundesliga. Still, I hadn't heard of him, and we should have signed the bench warmer Socialist Workers Party instead. For loads more money. Obviously.

Reyes - Versatile, newly focussed and single, signed until 2011. We have seen what he can do, but he had a slump last year, so we should have spent £16 million on Owen instead. He would have been much better.

Bergkamp - Absolute genius. Great passer, scores wonder goals, compliments Wengers style perfectly. Buts he's old.

RvP - Bergkamp with more speed, agility and dynamism, but too young and passionate. We should have kept Kanu or Wiltord, they never got into trouble.

Henry- OK, I quite like him. But the chavs will buy him next year anyway.

('Tongue in cheek' - This funny-sounding expression indicates that someone just told a joke or isn't being serious. If someone says something 'tongue-in-cheek' he or she is usually kidding. It's believed that this saying was created by an English humorist in the 1800's.) </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

not sure why everyone's getting so upset about poom?

he's a big, strong goalkeeper. comes out for crosses. experienced (which means a hell of a lot for goalkeepers). he's used to the premiership. and he was bloody good when he was playing in the prem too.

the talk that he's injured has surely got to be rediculous. it makes no sense at all.

he's here for 4 months. as cover. until january. put 2 and 2 together. maybe we have another goalkeeper target?

no he came direct from Mimosas (?) without passing Go or collecting £200.

But that doesn't change the point. In fact it strengthens it. Despite consistent performances in the centre of our defence, outstanding commitment, and a cracking start to the season... we didn't sign him from a big club for a lot of money. so he's ****.

Now granted, I don't get through to Germany to watch him play all that often, but I was under the impression that Koller was the best in the business at what he did, ie playing in that hole behind the striker, holding up play, providing flicks, and generally being a pain in the *rse to the opposition defence.

I'm not saying we should spend £17 million on the bloke, but surely if he is available on a free (or cheap if we were to pick him up before the summer), it's low risk. Bringing someone like him off the bench when teams like Chelsea shut up shop against us would give us more options. Lets see if Terry, or Ferdinand, or Carragher (icon_biggrin.gif) look settled then.

For this transfer window, i believe we made a profit of around £3.5M on transfers. Vieira +£13.5M Hleb -£10M (i know that is if all the little clauses are met, which in this case we will say they were) Is that a good thing or not?

ARSENE WENGER fears he is facing a major battle to stop Thierry Henry leaving Arsenal.

Gunners captain Henry is believed to be disillusioned at Arsenal's lack of major signings this summer while their title rivals Chelsea have again invested heavily on improving their squad.

Arsenal boss Wenger, whose only major deal was signing Aleksandr Hleb for £8million, believes they will have to win a trophy to prevent the French striker leaving next summer.

Wenger sold Patrick Vieira to Juventus this summer and tried to sign Julio Baptista from Seville for £14m but missed out when Real Madrid moved in for the Brazilian.

It left Arsenal short of a big-name new signing and it has left Henry privately concerned that the club may be left behind by Chelsea and Manchester United.

Henry has two years left on his contract and Arsenal are keen to talk to him about a new deal but negotiations have not progressed and Spanish giants Barcelona are watching the situation closely
