AcidBurn
On these forums it seems most marking discussions are if people use zonal or man marking. I was just wondering if anyone used specific marking, I played against Inter Milan with Sunderland and in the first half Milito was destroying our defence. I switched my DMC Cattermole to specifically mark Milito and he was completely shut out in the second half which may have just been a coincidence, so does anyone else ever use it? Jenko_EFC
Yep, in a similar way to you. I pinpoint the player beforehand though!
AcidBurn
lol, I wish I had of now. It's the first time I have used it, second game in I set Cattermole to mark Tim Cahill and it seemed to work pretty well again.
Jenko_EFC
Yes, it does. Can be used agaisnt though, an attacking midfielder coming in would have lots of space if you used your DM to mark their striker for example.
AcidBurn
That was going to be my next question, if Cattermole is marking the striker then this must have a negative effect on his normal DMC duties of shutting down opposition play.
Jenko_EFC
I assume he'll follow the striker and may leave a gap in the DMC spot where a CM running from deep would be very dangerous so be careful!
SFraser
That was going to be my next question, if Cattermole is marking the striker then this must have a negative effect on his normal DMC duties of shutting down opposition play. You would try and factor that into your defensive shape and make sure that even if he leaves his position, no gaps pop up that can be detrimental to your shape. For example 4-1-4-1 is a good shape for you to specifically man mark an opponents AMC/Second Striker, whereas 4-4-2 is likely to see you cut to ribbons.
