Ok for a pre built system, Sacn are excelent for building systems. Overclockers are offering systems, however, these are very good for people wishing to OC. Scan would offer a better balanced system or base unit. Please stay clear of Dell. For someone with limited PC XP, they have a dire customer service. The build quality is crap imho too. Go with Scan. Sorry if i have jumped blindly into this thread, but i have a passion for tech and well built OC'ed systems. BTW DDR3 has double the bandwitdh of DDR2. For gaming, a matched pair of 2Gig sticks will be a good balance. These will be more efficiant in whatever flavour.

The 3XS systems will mainly offer DDR3 and will start with this http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1011. The next up is a Core I5. To get what is wanted, a home built base unit is probably going to bet the only way or through Scan (or elsewhere) (www.http://www.cclonline.com/) for a Q8300 CPU

Stay away from Dell?

You couldn't be more wrong. There have been some unbelievable deals with Dell over the last few months.

Scan are offering core 2 duo systems at similar prices to Dell i5 ranges. If you think that's a good deal then you'll be on your own in that assessment.

It is not about deals but system build quality. Scan will blow Dell to dust, but as you say, that will be my comment. As an Overclocker, i guess my oipinions will out of touch with the average user. I mean no disrespect by that comment, but when you have built and overclocked a system(s), you tend to delve a little deeper into Computers and what's what. Dell are not what!

We have two Dells in the house at the moment. One has been running and continuously upgraded for about five years. There's been nothing wrong with the build quality at all.

The only computer I've seen with better build quality is my desktop from pcspecialist.

Well, i'll agree to a certain point. A small budget can be restrictive, however, it is possible to spec a system within those constraints. You don't have to stick to Mid Range just because of a tight budget. That is the point i am trying to make. Plan and build your own is more effective over a pre built system at the lower levels. End of the day if your happy, fair enougth. Don't have a problem with that.
