HOW ABOUT SOME BETTER FACILITIES MR MILNE?

A meeting was arranged with the chairman for tuesday.I explained the situation that in winter we have no training facilities if it snows,We have to train on the beach. He understands the situation and agrees that we have enough money in the bank to upgrade the facilities. That is great news for the team and could help the younger players reach their potential quicker. The new facilities will be built at the end of the season to be ready for next season.

We know with new facilities being built it will limit are funds next season to buy new players, but that is a sacrifice that we have to make to let the lads train in the best facilities possible.

The scouts have been sent out to find players as we near december,One has went to look for youths the other will scout UK and Ire.We hope they find one or two suitable players.

We also have a look around Scotland to see if there are any players coming out of contract at the end of the season,We will scout a few players before the time comes to sign pre-contract agreements.

The players have had a nice rest without a wednesday game,So we should have a squad of fit players.

TWO PLAYERS OUT INJURED

We had some bad news after the Hibs game with the physio informing me that Bavidge and Whelan will be out injured after picking up knocks in the last game.

Martin Bavidge will miss a week of action with a damaged foot.He will miss the games against Dunfermline in the cup and Rangers in the league.

The physio informs me that Noel Whelan needs to see a specialist about a chest injury picked up in the last match. He will be out for 3 weeks to recover from this.We hope to see him back in january pushing hard for a place in the first team.

Calum McHattie was in fine form for the reserves scoring a hat-trick against Kilmarnock reserves. He will be called into the first team for the cup game in midweek. He is 19 now so he will need to keep those performances up if he wants to make it into the first team.He is one for the future, although if he played well in the first team i wouldnt be afraid to make him first choice now.

The league cup will give us a chance to rest a few of the regular first teamers. We won this cup last year but we have to think of fitness with the team still in the champions league.

Aberdeen have Bavidge back,He will still sit this one out to let him recover fully from his injury,Whelan is still out with a back injury.

We have our final game in the group stages of the champions league in midweek,We will train hard for that match in a bid to get the good form going again.

Stewart Devine had another good game and was trying his hardest to create something he looks like he is grabbing his big chance with both hands.

BIDS ARE MADE AS WINDOW OPENS FOR BUSINESS

The opening of the transfer window sees me looking around Scotland for any players out of contract at the end of the season.Only one player was found Stephen O'Donnell. The Dundee United player has a good future in the game and we hope we can do something to make him sign.A contract has been offered to him and he will decide where his future lies in the next few days.

A few bids were made for players that the scouts had found.

Bojan Djordjic of Man U who is listed came up in our uk and Ire search,We have bid 200k for him.Even though we meet the asking price im not sure he will want to move to Aberdeen.

We have also offered Partick Thistle 40k for Emmanuel Panther,He would be intrested in moving but Partick will want to keep a hold of one of their best player.

We are keeping a close eye on a few others and could make some bids in the next few weeks.

O'DONNELL REJECTS THE DONS

Dundee Uniteds Stephen O'Donnell has signed a new contract at his club. This ends the speculation surrounding O'Donnells future.Thier was talk of him moving to Aberdeen at the end of the season but the talk will end now as he commits his future to United.Aberdeen had offered him a 2 year contract which he rejected in favour of a 4 year deal at Dundee United.Mr Gunn had this to say"We offered him a very good contract,More money than United too so fair play to the lad he choose to stay at the club thats been loyal to him"

PREECE UNHAPPY

David Preece came up and told me today he was unhappy at not being first choice. The conversation was pretty stright forward:-

PREECE:-Im Unhappy at not being first choice boss,I might have to leave if things dont improve.

GUNN:-Ok David your on the list plus you can be first choice reserve keeper from now on.If your not happy with that you can train on your own.

PREECE:-Err thats not what i meant boss,I want to stay but not being first choice is hard.

GUNN:-I know its hard,I thought you could put up with a challenge but i was wrong.Im going to have to list you for your outburst if it happens again you will find your wages a bit short for a week.

PREECE:-Ok boss wont happen again,Sorry.

1 ARRIVES,1 REJECTED

A trialist arrived in Aberdeen just a day before the next game against Hearts,Noel Hunt arrived for a two week trial from Dunfermline. He is still under contract with Dunfermline and would cost 200k.The scouts have gave him glowing reports so we will have a good look in the next two weeks.

Man U reject the 200k offer for Djorjic,They have put his price tag up to 250k,We have put in a bigger bid as he looks like the kind of player we need.

McCANN OUT FOR A WEEK

The physio informs me that McCann has fractured his arm and will be out of action for a week.

He will miss the Rangers game next Saturday but should be back in time for the Wednesday game against Kilmarnock.

We have a couple of players in that position who will hopefully do a good job in his absence.

A BIG BOOST FOR THE STRIKERS

Aberdeens strikers have went off the boil in recent weeks,So the news that German legend Ulf Kirsten will join the club will be a big boost for Aberdeen FC and the strikers.

The German will join the club in position of coach and will help the attackers try to re-discover their form.

Kirsten comes with alot of experience,The 39 year old German coach played 100 times for his country scoring an impressive 35 goals.

Its less than a fortnight untill we play Man U but if we play like we did in the second half today who knows what will happen.

It is a brilliant score to win by but id rather win 1-0 and look a good side rather than win 4-1 and look poor.

With only a week to go until the Man U game we will need to stay focused and not let our guard down.

LEAGUE CUP FINAL

The final of the league cup went right down to the wire.

Kilmarnock met Ayr in the Hampden Park showdown attracting 20039 fans to the game.

Both teams were solid for the whole game not giving much away.So it was no surprise it ended up 0-0 at full time.

Another 30 mins still could not force a winner so it was decided on penalty kicks.

Kilmarnock scored their first pen but then missed the next 2.

Ayr scored with their first three pens meaning Mahood had to score for Killie to keep them in it,he missed the teams 4th pen which means Ayr are the league cup champions.

He has been one of our main men this season and we hope we dont lose him for long,We will find out more on thursday morning.

I was impressed with how young Stephen Payne played in McNaughtons absence,The young lad will be pushing for a first team place real soon with performances like that.

BAVIDGE SHOULD BE OK FOR MILAN

The physio has informed me that Martin Bavidge will miss the next league game but he could be back to take his place against Milan in the Champions League.

He picked up a bit of bruising in his last game and will miss training for 2 days.

It is good news for Aberdeen FC who are running short on strikers with McHattie out for the rest of the season and Whelan released due to injury.

YOUNG DONS RECEIVE A BOOST

Three players have been called up to represent their countrys at under 21 level.

Andrew Bagshaw has been called up by the young Scots. The forward has yet to sign his first full time contract as he is only 16.

It shows how highly this young lad is rated.Aberdeen will be hoping he signs his first contract with them this summer.

William Flood has recieved a call up to the Republic of Ireland under 21 squad.

It is his first call up to the squad and at only 19 he still has a couple of seasons to make the jump to the big squad.

Cherno Samba is in the England under 21 squad.

He has never had a cap at any international level so he will be looking to impress in training.

This young lad has alot of talent and it could be a case of how long before he grows to big for Aberdeen.

FOUR MAKE THE SCOTLAND SQUAD

Four players make the Scotland squad to face Bulgaria and Andorra.

Jamie Langfield,Phil McGuire,Kevin McNaughton and Russell Anderson have all been rewarded for their club form.

The 4 players have been in superb form over the season and deserve their place in the squad.

Scotland need to win these two games to have any chance of qualifying for the World cup next year.

I could use the excuse about resting players for europe for this defeat,But in all truth their is no excuse as Dunfermline done today exsactly what we normally do sit back and hit on the counter. In the second half they had nearly everyone behind the ball and we couldnt get close.

We will have to blank this game from our minds and not let it get to the players. We have an important game on wednesday and we dont want anyone going into the game with doubts of their own ability.

We kept it tight at the back but they showed why they are a world class side by taking thier chances when they came.We failed to get a shot on goal as their defence was on top of everything. We have to play Hearts before the return game but it looks like the euro dream is now over.

We will go out and try to win the 2nd leg but with the quility they have throughout their squad it will be a very hard task.

I cant fault the lads though as they have done me proud to get this far, they have played good football and hopefully we have won ourselves a few more fans with our displays.
