Weird Issue re Transfers

I started a save as Wigan in the Championship.

I put in a bid for Yassine Benzia, and it was accepted(a total of 7m), as he's exactly the kind of striker I want(decent for the Championship, plentiful potential, and the ability to be a creative forward rather than pure finisher), all well and good. Contract negotiations went fine, but right after, I had to go away for a while, and turned off my computer in a hurry, without saving, no problem, I could do it all again handily enough.

Except I can't. Now he rejects all contract negotiations. How is this possible? Is there a slight randomization to the players interest?

Pretty freaking annoying, to be honest.

So, no one has any clue how this is happening?

"My client isn't interested in entering into contract negotiations with your club."

Nothing has changed, the save is the same day I offered him the first contract. I had just replaced all my staff, set up a shortlist, saved and started offering contracts to a few players.

Also, I understand he probably shouldn't be interested in joining Wigan in the Championship, but I took a punt and it came off, well the first time.

No, I saved the game, then made the bid and haven't saved since.

Maybe he's had an offer from another club?

Nope, no offers on the table, though Celtic and some other club I can't think of offhand are interested.
