parsdaft1982 Posted December 18, 2018 Share Posted December 18, 2018 Its the 2nd June 2024. Its a miserable summers morning when the Manchester United PR office calls for a press conference. Its not even been 24 hours since United were narrowly defeated 2-1 in the Champions league final by fierce rivals Liverpool. Pressure has been growing on boss Mourinho for a few weeks now. Having been appointed in 2016, he has won only 1 Premier League trophy, 1 europa league, 1 FA cup and 3 League cups. Some say this is unacceptable for a team as big as united. It is with deep regret that Manchester United have parted company with manager Jose Morhinio. As you are aware, recent results have simply not been good enough, and following our recent Champions League defeat, the board felt it was time for a change. The board have already identified a list of managers we wish to speak to, but we will not be commenting any further. We would like to wish Jose all the very best for the future and thank him for all he has done. There will be no questions today, thank you, and have a good day." And just like that, the chairman was gone. Speculation was already rife, Zidane, Conte, even Eddie Howe's name was being floated about. The fans have their own views though, they want a British manager, someone who could do what Sir Alex did. It seems it could be Eddie's time... It is believed Mourinio has taken up the role of director of football with immediate affect. Mourinio' s first task to to identify the new manager for the club. Speculation about who will be the club's new manager is rife. It is understood Mourinio would prefer a foreign manager with champions league experience. A surprise name has been mentioned however. Dunfermline Athletic manager Chris O'Connor, who has just won his 4th consecutive SPFL Premier league title, has entered the race for the job. There has been no response from East End Park or O'Connor himself, but he is thought to be held in high regard by former manager Jose Morhinio. Former Man Utd manager, the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson has backed O'Connor to take the vacant United hot seat. Sir Alex, who made 89 appearances scoring 66 goals for Dunfermline, has said O'Connor has the right mentality to succeed at Man United and hopes he will be considered. Chris O'Connor has done some really good work at Dunfermline since being hired in June 2018 at the young age of 35. He went on the win the Scottish championship first season bringing unexpected promotion. Over the next 5 years, O'Connor delivered 4 Scottish Premier league titles, 1 Scottish cup and 2 League cups. He helped boost Scotland's European co-effients with some remarkable performances in Europe, even reaching the final of the Europa League in 2022, only to be beaten by Inter Milan. O'Connor has gone about his work quietly since hanging up his boots. He played his entire career at Dunfermline making 634 League appearances and scoring 128 goals. O'Connor never got a call up to Scotland, but his impressive work as manager, splitting the Old Firm and stopping Celtic's domination, has to add some weight. An amazing achievement to finish unbeaten all season, a stat that goes back to the following season. The guest of honour was none other that Athletic icon, and many consider legend, Sir Alex Ferguson. The Pars chairman also revealed plans are in place to add a further 4,555 seats to the 13,955 seater stadium as well as upgrading the clubs training and youth facilities. Pars boss Chris O'Connor praised the board for their visions for the future of the club, along with sanctioning the signing of several players, who will be an asset to the club for years to come. Former Manchester United right back Lee O'Connor (of no relation to Chris) has signed a permanent deal after spending last season on loan. When asked about the speculation linking him with Man United, Chris replied: " obviously, it is an honour to be linked with Man United job, they are a pretty big club with a lot of history. However, im not going to say anything just now other than there has been no contact with them. Plus, being a Spurs fan, I doubt they will be in contact." Its now been a month since Jose Mourinio was sacked, then sensationally re-hired as director of football. Various big names have been seen in and around the Manchester area over recent weeks, but still no announcement on who will take charge. Chris O'Connor has continued to strengthen the Dunfermline squad and all eyes will be on the Pre-season match at East End Park on the 22nd. parsdaft1982 Posted December 20, 2018 Author Share Posted December 20, 2018 8th July 2024 STV News: Although not considered a big pre-season game, Dunfermline ran out amazing 7 nil winners against Peterhead at the Balmoor stadium. A hattrick For Ben Woodburn, 2 from Francisco Sala and 2 for John Adamson wrapped up the game in the first 45 minutes. The pars changed the entire squad for the second half and looks as if they treated it like a training match. However, the big talking point was manager Chris O'Connor's refusal to talk to any member of the media fuelling the fire that he is set to take over as Manchester United boss. O'Connor's trusty assistant, Mikel Arteta, also refusd to speak to the media. Rumours have been coming in from fans all over the country. One tweeter, who wishes to remain anominous, says he was helping Chris and his family buy a house in the Cheshire area. Jim Stevenson from Rosyth tweeted "Aye saw Chris in ma local. He says he is no interested. He wants to build a legacy at the Pars, even tho he already has, COME ON YE PARS" O'Connor is certainly no stranger to the North West. He has family from his fathers side living in Darwin, Blackburn. No doubt should he take over as United boss, he will fall foul of his family. parsdaft1982 Posted December 21, 2018 Author Share Posted December 21, 2018 13th July 2024 FOX SPORTS NEWS HQ BREAKING NEWS After weeks of speculation, 41 year old Scottish manager Chris O'Connor has been named the new manager at Manchester United on a 3 year deal. O'Connor will be joined by assistant manager Mikel Arteta and several other members of his Dunfermline coaching staff. Sources close to Man United have said that O'Connor will more than treble his wages and will be handed an impressive war chest to help re-build the United squad. O'Connor will certainly have inherited a talented squad with the likes of De Gea, Pogba and Icardi amoungst others. However it is no seceret that these players are ageing and that O'Connor prefers to work with younger players. So will we see the likes of Dybala, Lindeloff and Savic leave Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window? It is certainly going to be an interesting few weeks. Ironically, O'Connors first match in charge of United will be a pre-season friendly against former club Dunfermline at East End Park on the 20th July.
