Contract vs. squad status

I want to sign an experienced CM for his personnality (professional), his Determination (15) and a PPM (Tackle standing up) [i.e. i want him as a tutor, mainly] but he won't accept a contract that is not "Key Player".  I don't care that much about the salary boost, i'll make it up fast if i can make him 2 younglings with 3 reasons i want him to for.  But "Key players" expect, to my knowledge, to play 60% of the matches but he have low stamina and got quite a few little injuries last season at the club he was with, so my intention is never to let him play 2 matches inside 4 days.  For that, i would want to give him a "First team" only.  Will he expect to play 60% of the matches because of his contract or will he be happy with 50% of them, in line with his status in the squad?
