''standard'' match strategy question....

im currently playing a game and am doing reasonably well. but in games i was getting annoyed at how many chances teams were getting against my team, even though i was creating them myself. so i used the team strategy ''standard'' instead of control or attack and i found i was 4-0 up at half time and ripping them apart!!!

now i have never really used standard before much if im being honest and was wondering if people used it alot and why they use it? is there any secret thinking behind using it im not getting??..........
