Who's on co comms? Sounds like Hartson but then I think it doesn't.
USA looking strong.
I thought it was Iolo Williams for a moment.

Marina Hyde in her Guardian column called him a "Grasping Shitmuncher". I don't think theres really anything else that needs to be added.

I would just like to chime in to this thread, as I too am finding this version very hard. I didn’t play FMM20 so maybe something has changed since FMM19.
The two main problems I have are:
1. I barely create chances. Regardless of formation, players or tactics, my players seem to just pass the ball around in little triangles on the edge of the box, then give away possession.
2. I cannot get any solidity in the centre of midfield. It’s like my CMs are not there. They’re either constantly pulled out of position leaving huge gaps in the centre (causing my CBs to rush out to fill the gap), or my opponent is able to bypass them with regular through balls; something I cannot get my own players to replicate.
Im careful to use usual FM principles - I try to have a good mix of creative and holding roles in my team . I try to have logical choices in tempo, passing style, etc. But I cannot get my teams to play in a way that I enjoy.
It’s getting a bit frustrating to be honest!

I would like to suggest two relatively minor things:
1. The ability to change all players to a particular training schedule with one click - its a bit of a pain for preseason with out it.
2. The ability to send Scouts to look at individual countries. This isn't really a problem when managing a UK team, but if you're managing in Italy for example, you can only send your scouts to Central Europe.

Looks an awesome find Hunter.
As I've posted in the Inter thread, I've just picked up this guy for €2.9mil (plus a few add-ons):
Edit: Of course, a week after the transfer was completed he injured himself for 3 months.

Coleman looks immense! I'm guessing he's been getting first team action to see development like that?

The movement has at times looked really good. The movement of the CF and Treq especially seem to really open up things up for the AF, but the through ball has been a little lacking. I'm hoping that as the players get sharper and the familiarity increases things will improve, but so far there is promise.
Mind you, it's mostly been MLS teams so far...

Just to say that I haven't forgotten about my promise to post some updates at my attempts to use a Treq/CF-S/AF-A combo. I'm a slow player and I'm just working through some pre-season games to try and get tactical familiarity up before looking closer at it. I'm also slowed by retraining Andre Ayew into a CF.

Cheers for the speedy reply!
I don't know why I didn't think of a Treq for the Fantasista role. I'd possibly got too hung up on the attributes of the players I currently have rather than projecting the idealised role for the combination.
I'll certainly try to post some updates here to demonstrate how it works (or not).

Hi Llama,
I think this is a suitable thread for my question - It concerns less a pairing, but rather a combination.
Ages ago, on this forum in the probably FM12 era, someone posted this article: http://www.footballitaliano.co.uk/p6_66_5643_the-golden-triangle-calcios-trending-formation.html
I read it at the time and found it interesting, but now as manager of Inter it's been nagging at me. I'm in the first summer transfer window since becoming manager and so am able to start properly moulding the team into my vision - I'm starting to think that I'm going to try to recreate this 'Golden Triangle'. I've always found combining a front two with a player in the AMC position slightly awkward, but I'm determined to make it work this time. So, how would you interpret these roles?
My current thinking is this:
AMC :: Fantasista :: Enganche or Advanced Playmaker - Attack depending on the player?
STR :: Prima Punta :: Complete Forward - Support
STR :: Velocista :: Advanced Forward - Attack with Roam from Position TI?

I have a stupid question, and I should probably know this having played the CM/FM games for a billion or so years, but...
What benefit does naming a Captain have on your team?
Does he give an attribute bonus on the pitch? Does picking an unsuitable candidate have any major ramifications?
I wondered the other night when half of my team announced their retirement and I realised I've just lost lots of candidates for the Captaincy. I've always blindly given it to the person who has the best mix of personality, Determination and Influence/Leadership. But why?

That is certainly odd.
This has me laughing more than it has any right to.

Got to work this morning and realised that she had wiped her snotty face on my trousers, right between the legs at some point this morning.
Things looked highly suspicious to people at work.
Woman at work today managed to spill an entire pot of SelectaDNA all over herself. Aside from obvious gags, she did manage to look like she'd been participating in niche videos featuring stern-faced Japanese gentlemen.

My first tri-yearly dumb question for 2014...
I have a couple of players who I am retraining to a new position, however they are younger players and not ready for the First Team yet. Without taking control of all U21 team games, is there a way I can 'force' the U21 Manager to play them for the U21 team in the positions I want them trained in in order to speed up the process?

Is there any difference in terms of Team Cohesion between bringing in 3 new players from promoting 3 players from Reserves/U18s?
I.e. In one close season, if I promote some youngsters rather than buying players, is the time for tactical familiarity or 'gelling' reduced?

I'm not sure exactly on the mechanism but I've heard retraining to a position does use up PA, although I don't know what happens when a player loses positional competency - does it free up PA in return? Seems unlikely.
I'd probably guess that rather than actually using up PA it just takes time away from training that would use that PA to up attributes, so, it wouldn't use PA but it would limit it from leading to player improvement, which would probably look like the same thing. If this is correct then it would just take longer (possibly too long) for PA to get converted to attributes.
That makes sense, cheers. I'm not too hung up on squeezing the absolute maximum attributes - I'd rather have a good distribution for the role and the correct personality - so I'll happily retrain him in that case.

A question of my own. I have a player who is Natural in the AMC position and Unconvincing in the MC position. I want to train him to be at least Accomplished at MC. Would he lose PA for that, considering he already has some 'experience' of that position?

I would assume that to be their right side.

I imagine this has been answered somewhere else, but a quick search didn't find anything particularly useful.
Is there a benefit in having more than one coach training a particular training categeory? For instance, in my current save I have enough coaches so that each category is covered by one coach (Setting aside the GK for now). The star ratings are at either 3 1/2 or 4 stars, which I'm happy with for the time being.
If I then replace a 4* coach with a 5* coach, but have enough coaching 'slots' allowed by the board, is there any benefit in bringing in a second coach? Does it reduce the workload further and provide better player improvements as a result?
(I've been playing FM for years, so I should really know this, so apologies for the silly question).

You said your DLF coming deep but you have your DLF on attack duty? To have him coming deep, you should have him on support duty.
Heh, thanks vasili. In my defence, it is the stupid questions thread. Although my initial question does still stand - Is it possible to increase wide player mentality without fiddling with sliders?

After watching a series of uninspired draws last night I come to you with a probably stupid question:
Is it possible to increase the mentality of your two wide players without manually tweaking sliders or affecting the general mentality of the whole team?
To give the question some context, I'm playing a 41221 and my 'front 3' are set up thus:
Str : DLF (A)
AML : Winger (S)
AMR : IF (A)
The intent is to have the DLF coming deep to create space and through balls (mainly for the IF) however the IF always seems too far behind play or is not making any penetrative runs into the box. As such I'm creating few chances. Obviously there is the Exploit the Flanks shout, but if I understand correctly, this also affects the mentality of your full backs too?

You've got it the wrong way round, the missus is supposed to do stuff around the house not you. Send her this week, 3 days and I'll have her sorted for you
Hehe. I'll bundle her in the back of a van and drive her over.

Stuck at work and all I want to do is get back home, finish and post the Argyle Thread and then get on with the season. Damn work. Then probably damn wife when she gets me doing stuff around the house!

I don't know if he's been given instructions to do it, but the constant deep crosses have been completely ineffective.
