  1. I finally played my 10th and last season with Cosmos. Decided to leave and go to Victor San Marino, see how it goes over there. I guess I got a bit annoyed at losing some of my best players without my say so. I feel the team was financially sound enough to not have to sell my best player for 3 millions outside of a market window. Easy win in the League. Didn't beat any team record but my Sanmarinese striker Ceccoli beat the record for number of goals with a nice 53. Won the Cup and the Trofeo also. Bit of a tough draw in the Champion's League but some good results anyway. I leave the team with everything maxed out except the youth training facilities. I'll be curious to see how the AI is going to destroy everything I did during those 10 seasons. Hopefully the club can keep producing an occasional good player for me to play with the national team. Speaking of which: A little bit disappointed to have lost in Luxemburg, but winning those two home games was important. I think Macedonia is the highest ranked team that I have beat. Solid results in the Friendlies. We're now 160 in the rankings. Unfortunately there hasn't been anyone interesting in this year's youth intake. So probably a bit of stagnation coming unless some of the youngster keep improving (some of them seem to have hit their potential recently).
  2. Hi everyone and welcome for this summary of my 9th season in this challenge. Transfers For the first time, I really spent some money in the Transfer windows this season. I tried to bring some young players for the future but also established players to just try to improve the team immediately. Next to that, I've lost a few players who have outgrown the club and were starting to create a bad atmosphere in the club. I've spent a lot more on the market than I've earned and I definitely won't be able to do that every year. I've also probably overpaid for some of those players (Castagnaro, in particular) but it felt like the time to really try to bring new blood in the team. Results Top of the League, as expected, but I have not scored all that much this season. In fact I had not scored so little since my 3rd season. Not too sure what it means considering the team is much better than it was back then. Maybe my players don't care all that much about scoring a ton of goals in the league. This was the first season for my young local kid Riccardo Ceccoli and he delivered, finishing top scorer with 46 goals (which is in the expected ballpark). I've also won the Cup and the Supercup I made it fairly easily to the Champion's League Group stage, where I had a really tough schedule. I took points to the weaker teams but I'm still nowhere near being able to take consistent points to the teams from the big leagues. And so, this was not enough to reach the next stage of the competition. The reputation of the league is going up and San Marino is now finding themselves between the Estonian Premier League and the JD Cymru Premier (Wales). Youth Intake Only one player showed up with potentially a role for the National Team in the future. Looks decent, good personality but unfortunately my staff is telling me his potential isn't that great. Hopefully he can improve to be number 3 or 4 in the hierarchy at his position. San Marino Academy has not produced anyone interesting this year, so overall, a bit of a setback and disappointment this year. I'm also starting to consider leaving my club, Cosmos, and start building another one. Not sure if it would be better overall to build another Sanmarinese team or if I should go to Victor San Marino. The latter seems to be the better option for the long game (more money, better league, better chances in Europe down the line) but I have not decided anything yet. I played the Nation's League group C and it's a bit of a mixed bag. Glad to beat Armenia twice but disappointed overall to lose to Montenegro considering I beat them twice during the previous World Cup Qualification campaign. We finish third, which is good enough for now. The Euro qualifiers have also started and it's tough so far. We're not getting hammered anymore but still losing to teams of that caliber. That friendly against Chad is the biggest victory in San Marino history so I got that going for me. The team currently sits 166th in the rankings. That's all for today, thanks for those taking the time to read and I'll see you soon for the 10th season.
  3. @G_D_K, @Scraborn I don't think the SM players here have a potential that's necessarily higher from the players that were coming from my academy in the first seasons (except for one). It's just that now I have state of the art facilities, a decent staff, custom trainings, tutoring and they're just in the best conditions I can give them to reach their potential. I'm also a bit unsure about what's happening at San Marino Academy. Because the club is playing in the Italian system, the game may very well generate their youth intake using the Italian youth rating.
  4. Hi everyone, here's the summary for my 8th season at Cosmos. Let's start with the unpleasant stuff first to get it out of the way I got Fm'd in the Trofeo Federale. Bit disappointed to see the streak of trophies broken but the silver lining is that there is obviously another Sanmarinese team capable of beating me, which could be really good down the line for the reputation of the League if Tre Fiori manages to win some European contests. No problem in the League though. 214 goals scored is a new record that will probably be hard to break. 51 goals for my top scorer, Badaloni that I presented in one of my previous post. My youngster Ceccoli (more on him later) scores 30. My goalkeepers scored a combined 19 goals because I have them take the penalty kicks. Nothing says that you respect your opponents more than getting your GK to take a penalty kick when the score is already 10-0. Other pro teams in the country are unsurprisingly following me with a fair bit of margin towards the non pro teams. Fiorita is also pro but they're really not doing anything with it. Note that every year I give millions to those pro teams by buying garbage players in the hope they'll use the money wisely towards their young player, but I'm still to see any benefit to this strategy. Oh, and I also won the Cup. I really struggled qualifying for the Group Stage in the Champion's League. I secured my qualification against Shamrock and Bodo/Glimt both times due to late goals. And then in the group stage I trashed much better teams like Lille or Fenerbahce. No clue why this happens and that's definitely not the first time I notice. But anyway, no complaint here. Financially the club is loaded due to those good European runs. As a result my European ranking is getting better and the reputation of the League improves. However I'm losing my spot in the second round of the qualifying process and I'll have to play an extra round again starting from 2031/2032. I guess the teams from the countries around me did very well last season. Key Players I'm really starting to shift my strategy here. When the game started I was relying a lot on foreign players with only 2 or 3 Sanmarinese players. I am now prioritizing young local players and I have now 10 of them in my main squad. Sometime I start them all in League games and they are performing brilliantly. I'll start this with my 3 best players then I'll move on to introduce the youg SM Gang. They're young, they're good and they're unhappy because I refuse every offer coming my way for them. Although I do have an extremely promising San Marinese Left AM so Socrates might be leaving the club soon. And now for the San Marinese youngsters ... Out of this bunch Finardi is very clearly the best. He's been in the national team ever since he showed up in my youth intake and will probably be a starter until he retires. For San Marino he's clearly a generational player. The rest of them are coming along nicely, they are a clear improvement compared to the players I started the game with and all of this has greatly helped improve the results of the national team. Youth Intake Unfortunately the youth intake was poor. I only signed 2 players and I doubt they will ever be good enough to be in the national team. San Marino Academy however has produced somebody extremely interesting. I immediately signed him, he's already in the national team, he's got potential and great determination and is another one of those kids that will be in my teams for the next 15 seasons. So with all those good young players, the level of the national team as really improved and I can now start qualifying games without assuming an automatic defeat. Both the Netherlands and the Ukraine draws are anomalies. I scored on my only shots on target as they were happy to try to manage a 2 goals advantage. However at this point, I'm not exactly surprised to take points from Montenegro or Lituania. Great campaign overall but I doubt I'll be able to reproduce those results in the near future. The team is getting better but getting 13 points out of that group feels like an anomaly. I played a playoff game to stay in the Nation's League group C and I've won it against Faroe. As a result of all this, I'm not sitting 171st in the World Ranking. Can't wait to play the next iteration of the Nation's League to see exactly what my team can do. Hopefully I can avoid relegation (which should be ok if it depends on a playoff anyway). That's it for today, see you next time.
  5. So, this happened. I completely FM'd them. That campaign was amazing and really promising for what's next
  6. I have this issue as well and it's annoying. I have noticed however that they let me go 2 years usually for young players and sometimes 3 for Sanmarinese young players from my academy. What I do is this: I sign a player on a 1 year contract, after 6 months I can offer him another contract for an extra year. At the end of the season I'll be able to extend one year further and at that point I can usually add a clause for an extra year in case of a league title or something. So the player come to my club on a one year contract but I can often manage to get him on a 4 year deal by the end of his first season. Rince and repeat for your entire team. It's annoying as F
  7. Somebody asked him at some point what kind of tactic he was using to produce such result. He said it's a downloaded tactic but somehow couldn't say which one. Don't worry, you're not the only one who has noticed that his results are not very consistent with the best players he presented. To be fair, it's fairly easy and quick to create a team that will trash the League entirely and have a very prolific striker. Mine has reached 200 league goals under 5 seasons.
  8. @6499redI have my youth intake maxed out and I still only produce Sanmarinese and Italian youngsters. I'm not getting anyone from another country at this point. I also note that most of the players coming through my academy have dual citizenship (which looks like it is incorrect but not much can be done about it). Also the Editor File I'm playing with allow people to take the SM citizenship after 5 years which is incorrect. I don't have FMRTE to change that so I guess I'll just discipline myself to keep certain players out of the national Team. Anyway, here's a summary of my 7th season. No opposition in the league as expected. This is a table that is going to be fairly common moving forward. I also note that Tre Fiori starts to really establish themselves as the second biggest team in the country. I also won the cup. At this point I'm protected in the draws for the Champion's League Prelims, so I reached the group stage for the 3rd time without trouble. I'm a bit disappointed with the group phase, few tight games that went the wrong way and only 4 points gained. During the offseason the board has accepted an offer for my best player without asking my opinion and I couldn't replace him (I promoted a youngster from the academy instead) so maybe that's why there's a feeling of not getting much better compared to last season. Financially we're even for the season, thanks to the Champion's League money. I might be in a bit of trouble if I don't manage to reach the group stage so I'll keep a close eye on that. Also, The club has been taken over but it doesn't change much for me. In fact, for the first time in 6 seasons I was able to ask and obtain an improvement of the Youth Facilities. Speaking of youth ... This year has produced those two really exciting new players. As you can see on the image, they're already in the National Team. Maybe not the best personalities but it appears that Finardi could really be a top player in a few years. He's probably not far from already being the best sanmarinese player ever. I probably deserved a little bit better in both games against Cyprus (I lose both games because of goals in extra time). We finish last, unfortunately. I was supposed to play a playoff against Feroe Island but it hasn't happen yet and it's not appearing in the schedule. We've also started the qualifications for the WC ... This is the immediate impact that Finardi and Zafferani have made to the national team. An amazing start to this campaign that I can already consider being a huge improvement. Now obviously I won't qualify, but the team is now ranked 190th which might be the best ranking ever for the country ? That's it for today, see you next time.
  9. Hi everyone, I've been doing this for a few seasons and have now just became aware of this thread. So here's a post to summarise the first 6 seasons of my San Marino run. I chose Cosmos based simply on the fact that I enjoy their colour scheme. Considering the choice of club doesn't matter all that much, the colours are a critieria as valid as any other to choose a club. Club Football I'm going to go over the results quickly as we all know that this isn't exactly the hard part of this challenge. I've won the league every year, as expected, never lost a game and only had one draw at the beginning of the first season. Without much surprise also, Tre Penne and Tre Fiori appear to be the strongest clubs behind me. The former has made it to semi professional level while the latter is fully pro now. Fiorita also made it to professional status despite not really having results of any significance. I'm still highly disappointed that I somehow managed to not win the cup during my first season. It's on the back of that victory in first season that the aforementioned Fiorita upgraded their status. Now for the interesting stuff. I have managed to reach the Champion's League Group stage in my last 2 seasons, and even managed to get out of the group stage and play the playoff stage, probably due to a bit of an easier schedule. Prior to that, I have also reached the playoff stage of the Europa League being booted out by Sporting Portugal and the Round of 16 in the Conference League, being booted out by Gent. There's some good victories in those runs, the biggest one probably being the Benfica one even though it counted for nothing in the end. Despite those good results, I don't think I'm necessarily able to reach the Champion's League group stage every year. I still feel I'm edging it out during the Preliminaries as attested by the contest won on penalties against CSKA Sofia. In any case, those runs got my a lot of money, which I used to upgrade my facilities. Training Facilities, Junior coaching and Youth Recruitement are getting close to being all maxed up. However the Youth Facilities lag behind, being just basic. I'd love to upgrade them, I just haven't had the option since my very first season. I'm not sure why that is. I also have a new stadium that we don't fill for League games but it's full for the European competitions, which is good. Key Players Obviously at this point I rely mostly on foreign players. I managed to sign Nicola Nanni, Filippo Fabbri and Edoardo Colombo in the early seasons, and they were key players back then, but not anymore (even though Colombo still get game time in the league due to the mandatory Sanmarinese player to be on the pitch). Acha and Pavlovic are the best player I can afford to recruit these days. The other two have been with me for a while now. Delgado was recruited as an 18yo and has been improving greatly. Badaloni has become a legend of the club, scoring 190 goals in 107 league appearances and 247 goals for 176 appearances overall. However at this point I can probably recruit better strikers so I'm afraid his time with me is coming to an end. San Marino National Team So obviously, I also manage the Sanmarinese national team. I do like many other players here, getting trashed in European/WC qualifiers and win the occasional friendly against small countries. That leaves me with the following stats. A definite improvement compared to where the team was at when the save started. I score over a goal on average and "only" concede 3.5 goals/game (thanks to Spain that I somehow always draw and that happily trash me every single time). However I have a massive achievement with this team, in the Nation's League Division D. The two victories against Kazakhstan are by far my biggest wins with the national team at this point. This got me into a playoff match to get into the European Championship and I was logically defeated by Greece. Thanks to the improvement I made at club level, there's a few youngsters about whom I'm really optimistic for the future of the nation. I poached this guy from San Marino Academy early on and he then refused to stay with me when the club turned pro. He left but I managed to get him back a few months later. Very similar in his abilities to Fabbri and my staff is telling me he can still improve. He's going to be in my defensive line for a long time. The first decent youngster that came through my academy. The staff says he's got really good potential but he's going to have to improve his physical stats. If he manages to do so he's probably going to be in the squad for a long time. When I saw this guy show up in my academy, I was over the moon. Such good stats for a (then) 15yo. However if my staff is to be believed, he's pretty much already at his maximum capacity, which is an absolute shame. He's still probably going to be in the squad for a while though. The most promising young player coming from my academy. He's got some potential according to my staff and I give him plenty of game time with Cosmos in the hopes that he becomes the leader of the National team someday. That's it for now. The post was a bit long but I'll go into a rhythm of one post at the end of each following season and it should be shorter then. I'm quite happy to join all of you guys in this fantastic challenge.
