  1. @Nobby_McDonald Thanks Hope i can keep it up mind you . @peter_1319 I am using TheFMEditors FM18 Updates where it added English Leagues up to Level 10. And thanks
  2. @Bigshow1 Ahh cool. I have been to one of them; its always a great atmosphere even though the scoreline is usually a cricket score between them . Steady Start to the season August Results The start of the season saw us face favourites for promotion South Shields and i was surprised by this scoreline as we put 5 past them and ran out 5-2 winners. Steenson and Dudley made it 2-0 then they clawed one back soon after Dudley scored in the 42nd minute. Then they equalised in the 65th minute. But Mooney decided to wake up and put two past their keeper as Staunton-Turner finished off the scoring. I was disappointed with both the Brighouse and Radcliffe results. 1-0 up against Brighouse and my defenders then fell asleep and allowed Brighouse to play hoofball over the top and they put 2 past Rigby and suffered the first loss of the season. The Radcliffe game was infuriating; 2-0 up and then bottled it in the last minute to only get a point out of the match. The next three games proved our dominance as we comfortably beat Droylsden 3-0; then went on to the First Qualifying Round with a 3-1 win over Portchester and then got the narrowest of wins against recently relegated Ramsbottom. September Results Our first game of September was against Handsworth Parramore in the FA Cup and we narrowly won 1-0; but they gave us a fight which i was disappointed about as we should have scored more and gave us a tie in the next round against Brackley which would be a tough game for us. Scarborough was a boring 0-0 draw. Osset Town were hard to break down or we were incompetent scoring goals but a 1-0 win would suffice. Brackley were in town and somehow we managed to put our name in the hat for the next round as we escaped with a 1-0 win. Goole was another game which infuriated me. Top of the league at the time and we only managed a 2-2 draw against the bottom of the league (story of my life). But we went back to winning ways against Colwyn Bay 2-0. South Shields were in town again as we played then in the Northern LEague Cup and this was a tighter affair but we won on penalties as again we concede in the last minute of normal time as the score was 1-1. Truro was the next big test in the FA Cup but we managed somehow to escape with a draw after Milligan equalised to force the game into a replay. We Somehow miraculously won at home 2-0 in the replay to almost get into the first round proper where we hope to get past Three Bridges. My main concern now is with these cup runs; will we falter in the league. League Table We have a solid start in the league; 4th isn't bad at the moment. If we win our next league game, we will be 3 points behind Mossley and South Shields. Mossley are the surprise package as they are predicted to finish 17th but have started strongly and sit above South Shields on goal difference. Goole like in real life occupy bottom spot. So so far so good; but i can see that this will all change once the injuries pile up or that our defence leak goal after goal. Mooney has been vital in front of goal with 8 goals so far when he's played and has turned up.
  3. Really good start with Spennymoor so far @AccyScott. Keep it up
  4. Let the Games Begin Will the on-loan Mooney be the key goalscorer for Brig this season? The new season is upon us as Bamber Bridge will begin their campaign to try and gain promotion by starting off against the favourites for promotion South Shields and Booth hopes that the Julio Arca train doesn't roll over Brig in the first game. Dan Mooney the on-loan Fleetwood striker is the key player Booth has highlighted as a key player in his bid to try and solidate top half status or even get into the Playoffs. Bamber Bridge Manager- "I feel like we are ready to get the season underway and hope that the current players and the new signings will do their business to assure us top half status but i feel confident that we can make the Playoffs as the lower leagues are so unpredictable and anything can happen. I don't have to travel far to the stadium as i live 10 minutes away and i feel having a local lad in charge who has the passion for success is the right feel for this club and hope that i can push us to promotion after past failings." Transfers Now the fun begins; who will stay and who will get snapped up on a free; that's the unpredictability of non-league football. Reinforcement was the key job for the initial period and here is who we brought in: Haynes will be our backup left back to Adam Dodd and he seems like he could do a decent job when called upon. Steenson will play as the first choice left winger as he was according to our assistant better than Chris Marlow. Haran and Price come in as fresh pairs of legs for the aging centre backs in Lawlor and Doughty. These two will definitely play a part this season. Hickman will be the backup right back and Peter Fotko will be the backup goalie to Rigby. Archie Love will be a key part in the centre of midfield depending on the formation that will be played. Not much really to show as they are only non league players and will probably be snapped up in a flash. Pre-season There has been 4 friendlies that were played; 2 easy wins and 2 batterings. Our first friendly was against Abbey Hey and we decimated them 5-0 after they went down to 9 men. Waddecar, Mooney, two Milligan penalties and Staunton-Turner was the result as we went into the Preston game with high spirits. We won our first game 5-0; we lost this one 5-0; we had no chance and we could have scored a penalty but it got saved by Maxwell. Our next game was against Chirk AAA and this should have been a cakewalk but we only came away 2-1 winners. Our last game was against Everton's U23's and only had Mason Holgate as the only recognized player as they ran out 4-1 winners. Once we scored a goal; I thought we would give them a fight, but it was too late. Hopefully we will be ready for South Shields as the first game of the Evo-Stik Division One North gets underway,
  5. @deltablue That is the same place that does hold funerals and resurrections every time Blackburn and Preston get relegated or promoted. @AccyScott Thanks. I haven't been to a game in ages; but yeah every time i have been; it has been a good atmosphere @Nobby_McDonald Thank you I shall try my very best. Hate LLM but i like to give it a shot. Meet the Players This is quite a thin squad with quite a lot of central midfielders and not a lot of depth or quality in central defence, left back, left wing and goalkeeper. The best player it seems is Dan Mooney. I did do a test run of this and he seems to be quite the goalscorer in this league; Rigby is the only goalkeeper here so i will need to find a backup goalkeeper quite quickly. The heaviest amount of depth that needs covering is centre backs. Lawlor and Doughty are slow as anything and will need pacier centre halves. I haven't done pre-season as of yet so i will come back to this next update with a look at what transfer i have made (hopefully good deals)
  6. So hello and Welcome to my new save; I was waiting for a database to play outside of the Vanarama National North/South and here we are starting off a career with a football team not far from where i live. Bamber Bridge. What are they famous for? Well they did host the Czech Republic in a friendly before Euro 96 and got stuffed but hey; it's a claim to fame. The stadium they play in was originally called Irongate; but has since changed to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium a few seasons back. They are a good team to watch; and have started quite well in the league this season. But with the likes of Julio Arca's South Shields; can we actually get promoted this season after appearing in 2 playoff finals in the past 4 seasons and losing both of them. Next Update: Meet the squad and Analysis of pre-season
  7. Could it be a repeat of last season?? Geubbels has been key when called upon and performing well. It's almost like last season in Ligue 1. About 20 games in and Lyon and PSG are two points apart with an almost identical record but Lyon are holding onto the top of the table again; but they have a better defensive record. The likes of Engels and Anton have helped anchored the Lyon defence with some good performances from Rajkovic. But with the sale of Anthony Lopes in the January transfer window; Booth brought in Mattia Perin to compete with the Serbian. They have performed better in the domestic competitions; bettering their performances by getting through to the Coupe de la Ligue Semi Final against Guingamp and to the next round of the Coupe de France when they play Bordeaux in the 10th round. Could this be the season for Lyon or will it be another bottle job? Transfers There have been some departures in the January window. Grenier, Marcal and Lopes all have left the club. These were disappointing offers; but i couldn't really say no to Barcelona when they wanted Lopes who i let go for a total of £16millon and Grenier was in the array of the many central midfielders i have and he had to go and Southampton got him for £3.4million and Marcal left for Flamengo for £5.1million. I was disappointed with the sales as the money wasn't brilliant and needed to replace Lopes and so Mattia Perin came in from Genoa for £22million. Yeah it is a bit steep but he is a quality keeper who can challenge Rajkovic for the start in between the sticks. I also brought in Renato Sanches on loan at the end of the summer transfer window; but hasn't really performed well; but he did have a long injury lay off so i can give him the benefit of the doubt. Champions League I was really surprised about how this group turned out. I said i needed key victories against Porto and Atletico and i did get key victories at home. I did lose to both teams away but i managed to pull away group winners and get seeded for the First Knockout Round draw. We drew Napoli so this will be a tricky team to overcome; but i will back my boys to do well Ligue 1 Well we are at this point again. 2 points ahead and a loss away to gifting PSG top spot. Monaco haven't really been performing well and expected them to be fighting for the top spot. We hold a victory over Monaco and a draw against PSG in the league; but i doubt i can do the double over Monaco again and i don't think PSG will roll over especially since they paid £95million for Casemiro who i don't think is worth that much; but thats PSG for you. Let's see if this season is my season and i can hold the Ligue 1 title over my head.
  8. @nico_france There are a few options Zachary Brault Guillard is a good prospect but i don't think he is ready albeit he is 19 and there is Tord Johnsen Salte who could do at the back but i don't think he is good enough. I'm hoping some of my youth intake from season 1 will be good enough at some point but they are only 14 and 15. Geubbels is awesome when he can get scoring but there is also Gouiri who could do a job either as an inside forward or a striker so i have options; but Gouiri will get time when i think he is ready.
  9. Ready for Season Two Could this new look backline help Lyon to the Ligue 1 title? Hope so cause i don't want the middle guy to get angry. Here comes season 2 of Lyon's campaign to regain the Ligue 1 title as well as win silverware to appease some of the players. Lyon have definitely dipped their toe in the market in some new defenders. (l-r Asamoah from Juventus, Waldemar Anton from Hannover and Bjorn Engels from Olympiakos). Booth mentioned that his defence leaked in too many goals and he believes that these three are the key albeit Asamoah's age. Meanwhile in the World Cup; Engels helped Belgium win the World Cup over the Russians (who would have thought that?) but injury struck so he missed the majority of Lyon's pre-season but Booth thinks that he will fit in well with the crazy looking German signing who will be his main center backs. Will Lyon also be able to last in the Champions League? As long as they can get key victories; they might make it to the First Knockouts. Well let's see all the transfers first. Transfers I decided to reinforce heavily in the defence; especially in the center as i felt there was only Diakhaby that wasn't near 30 or was above 30 so i brought in younger defenders in Engels and Anton and the majority of the transfers on those players are over 3 years with a little that was upfront. Asamoah was a freebie and would happily play backup to Marcal and Mendy; the former i am trying to cash in on. Bjorn Engels- I brought this defender in from Olympiakos for £16million with the majority of the fee over 3 years. According to my assistant manager; he was my best center back at the club and to be fair; he isn't bad stats wise. Quite well rounded and room for some improvement. He was still playing at the World Cup with Belgium and got injured in the Final so missed all of pre-season. He debuted in the first game of the Ligue 1 season and was at fault for two goals; but i guess it was nerves; i'm sure he will adapt to the role at center back. Waldemar Anton- He was the more expensive of the two but i feel he will slot in well at the back. Both Engels and this lad are both ball playing defenders so i think they will do well. Anton; again is well rounded and again got a little room to improve. He played in both Ligue 1 games played so far and has done well for himself. The crazy German will definitely fit well in my plans and both Engels and Anton will fit in nicely. Diakhaby will still get some game-time as he develops so it could look like a 3 at the back job but since i have a bucket load of centre midfielders; it will be hard. I would think Asamoah would be a good signing; but having a natural fitness of 4; he would probably tire out more easily than an active 60 year old would be; but he has experience and i am sure he would be an asset at left back; well that's if he doesn't sneeze too hard and pull a muscle. Marcelo left as i couldn't really fit him in anywhere; i didn't think he was that good. The departure of Nkoulou was a bit of a hard one but i wanted to cash in and bring in talent for the future and for the here and now. Gorgelin went for free and well didn't use him much at all except when he whined about not getting game time. Vogel and Jannot are for the future and for the others; Ndombele was a transfer i made before the end of the first season after peforming well and the other misfits are the fault of my HoYD. Looked at them and they were crap. Champions League Draw Oh boy it might be a tricky group to get out of after being drawn with Atletico Madrid and FC Porto and my Europa League Group Stage opponents from last season FC Kobenhavn. I need to be really lucky against Porto to even stand a chance of qualifying to the Knockouts. Hope that i can sneak a win against Atletico Griezmanndrid. But it will be a test and hopefully i can drop a bomb on the group. Ligue 1 2 wins after 2 and both were close a 4-2 win and a 3-2 win; Like last season we were a bit rusty after a good preseason. The 3-2 result was Engels' fault after doing a Gerrard and slipping to let a striker through and again when the same scorer went past him. Next Update: End of the Group Stage and Ligue 1 table.
  10. @tyro Thank you . Yeah Lyon have had some awesome players in the past like Lloris, Lisandro Lopez, all of the Brazilian influence and they do boast such great youngsters that will be destined for great things. Monaco have been surprising in my save; just squeezing into the Champions League but through the playoffs but too many draws cost me the title. PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions as the season draws to its close Lyon will ponder on all the draws they suffered as a strong start to Ligue 1 saw them 3 points behind the newly crowned champions Paris St Germain and they will have to wonder; if those draws did not happen would they have won Ligue 1? Neymar Mbappe and Cavani showed why PSG were such a force up front and how many clean sheets the defence kept. Lyon needed a miracle in the last two games to grab the title off PSG as they need them to lose both games. A draw in their penultimate match was enough for the Parisian giants to win the title again. Lyon Manager: "There was some points in the season where i would have liked to have wins especially against some of the teams at the bottom of the table; but it wasn't to be and we hadn't have the firepower within us like Paris St Germain had. They truly deserved the title but we will have to fight back next season and try to topple them. Geubbels had an amazing season for a 16 year old and was amazed by how many goals he scored and the assists he contributed to. Concerning Ndombele; he will be a permanent Lyon player next season as i was impressed by how well he played and how much he contributed. Hopefully he will contribute a lot more next season as we will have to use what we have to mount a title challenge next season and to do our best in the Champions League." Final League Table So close but yet so far. The main positives was being ahead of Monaco by 20 points which was impressive. Marseille just about managed to avoid relegation and the relegation playoffs. Guingamp and Metz get European spots over the likes of Nice. Saint Etienne, Marseille and Lille were the surprises down at the bottom half of the table. They should be in European spots but horrible seasons for them showed and were really disappointing. Analysis At the end of the season; even though there will be no silverware; i am pleased with the way we finished the season. Some results were lucky and scraped last kick of the game goals but those 9 draws cost us the league but we salvaged what we could and finished in a comfortable position. We will try our best to mount a title challenge and to give a good account for ourselves in the Champions League next season. It will be difficult to better the squad as we were only given an initial £20million and £7.75million of that was used to make the loan of Ndombele permanent. Standout Players There were a few standouts in our season. Captain fantastic Fekir was pivotal in the key games; Mariano contributed immensely up front with 23 goals in all competitions; Ndombele was awesome as a Mezzala and definitely worth the £7.75million to bring him to Lyon permanently after an optional future fee of £7.25 was in the loan contract and Tete proved that he could be better than Rafael at right back. But my standout player was:- Willem Geubbels:- I wasn't going to give this kid much game time; but with the injury to Mariano near enough to the First Knockout Round of the Europa League; I gave him a chance and he really did not disappoint at all; contributing to 15 goals and 5 assists in all competitions. His determination went from 13 to 17 with being tutored by Mariano. I think he will be an asset to the future of Lyon in real life and FM. He will get a lot of games next season being Mariano's strike partner. Memphis Depay did have the highest average rating with a 7.46; edging out Mariano who had an average rating of 7.43. Next Update: Transfers and the start of the Ligue 1 season. Don't want to bore you with pre-season.
  11. @john1 It was close indeed damn Lacazette . Now i have to concentrate 3 games left in the league and 8 points behind PSG. Let's hope i win all 3 games and PSG lose all theirs. That would be like 1000/1 of that happening
  12. @nico_france Well he has 15 league goals so he has been on fire for them; but now they have gone off the boil and sit in 5th; three points behind Monaco. All to play for @john1 Yeah; but it ended in heartbreak in the end. Lacazette assist gives Arsenal an away goal win despite a 3-2 defeat Lyon (4) 3-2 (4) Arsenal- Arsenal through on away goals Heartbreak for the Lyon lads as 3-2 was not enough. Lyon knew that they only needed one goal to progress to the next round of the Europa League but the 2 goals Arsenal scored at the Emirates last leg was enough for them to go through on away goals as Lyon won on the night 3-2 but went out on away goals. 7 minutes in and it was a fantastic start after Mariano slotted home past Cech to give Lyon the 1-0 lead that they needed. The 31st minute came and it was 2-0 when Houssem Aouar managed to find his way past Cech and they went into half-time with a healthy 2-0 lead but a slight 3-2 aggregate lead. Arsenal needed to do something and something is what they did when Lacazette and Wilshere came on the pitch in the second half. They needed creativity and thats what Arsenal did best when both Lacazette and Wilshere turned providers in both Arsenal goals. Icardi made it 2-1 when Bellerin found Lacazette and crossed the ball into the path of Icardi who headed home past Lopes. 3 minutes after that they equalised and this wasn't ideal for Lyon as now they needed 2 goals to progress after Wilshere's free kick found the head of Sanchez. About 17 minutes left Lyon retook the lead from a good effort by Tousart but this wasn't enough and Lyon came crashing out of the Europa League; wondering if they should have been a lot more defensive in the second half. Lyon Manager: "I was proud of the lads after the victory but Arsenal proved they had a plan and they executed it albeit feeling a bit ugly, but that's the way football matches are played these days. Play and win ugly. But i have to admit that i was proud of the teams peformances and now i can focus of the league even though it feels out of reach. I have to hope that PSG do slip up but it's looking quite unlikely."
  13. Gunned down by Lacazette but Geubbels scored vital away goal Arsenal 2-1 Lyon (Europa League Second Knockout Round) Emirates Stadium Attendance: 60,123 Lacazette scores second goal to haunt his former club With Ligue 1 all but PSG's after beating Lyon; all Lyon have now is the Europa League and Alexandre Lacazette scored coming back to his former club to give Arsenal a slender 2-1 lead going back to the Groupama Stadium. The favourites were always going to be Arsenal coming into this match and as always started the stronger forcing good saves out of Lopes. But it was Arsenal who struck first with good build-up play from Ozil and Sanchez who found Welbeck who slotted past Lopes in the 43rd minute. Booth was forced to make changes after Fekir and Mariano were very poor as Traore and Geubbels came in their place in the 51st minute. 6 minutes later and Arsenal made it 2-0 after Ozil whipped in the corner into Lacazette who headed it past the keeper. The formation changed for Lyon into their familiar 4-5-1 and they did pull a goal back after some good build up play from Tete who found Traore, who found Geubbels in spaces who slotted it past Cech to give the French club a vital away goal. Lyon Manager: "I was pretty disappointed how the game went after drawing against Montpellier at the weekend and to be honest was expected to be beaten today. But we showed late on we could do it and Willem has done brilliantly and deserved a goal. I am disappointed with Mariano and Fekir today; but they will put this behind them and bounce back against Caen at the weekend." Arsenal Lineup (4-2-3-1): Cech, Bellerin (Mertesacker, 76), Mustafi. Koscielny, Monreal, Ramsey, Wilshere (Cazorla, 45), Lacazette, Ozil, Sanchez (Icardi, 67), Welbeck subs not used: Ospina, Iwobi, Giroud, Holding Key Performer: Mezut Ozil: 9.0 Lyon Lineup (4-2-3-1): Lopes, Tete, Marcelo, Yanga-Mbiwa, Marcal, Ndombele, Ferri, Fekir (Traore, 51), Aouar, Memphis, Mariano (Geubbels, 51) subs not used: Gorgelin, Rafael, Tousart, Mendy, Ferri Key Performer: Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa: 7.5 Yeah things haven't gone well in the league either. Losing to 19th placed Lille and more draws means that PSG have their grips on the Ligue 1 title by 8 points. It's ridiculous how overpowered PSG are. yeah they have dropped points but they have been consistent dropped points. Sigh at least letting Willem Geubbels play has gotten some key points for us in the league with him scoring 10 goals in the league in 13 starts. He has been impressive and will bring up Gouiri to see how impressive he will become.
  14. @john1 I guess it is . The first leg is away so it would be tough going to the Ukraine. Best pack a sweater . But in sad news Mariano picked up an injury for 5-6 weeks so in my 2 up front formation; Traore, Maolida, Memphis and youngster Geubbels will need to step in.
  15. @Jimbokav1971 Unfortunately he doesn't have Welsh as a second nationality . @john1 I know, just annoying dropping points to the bottom club to try and keep top spot haha. Only Chances for a League and Europa League Double But Lyon still hold onto a slender points advantage in the League. Fekir key in recent league performances. Lyon suffered their first defeats in their season; both in the cup against their title rivals: PSG in the Coupe de la Ligue and Monaco in the Coupe de France so there shouldn't be too much disappointment; but the defeat against Monaco was a big blow as they were outplayed all over the park. Life in the league is good. They hold top spot again after PSG also suffered some draws and has been a back and forward battle for top spot; but at the halfway point; Lyon do hold it by 2 points. The next half of the season will be key as there has not been any transfer budget in place for January transfers so we have heard. Lyon Manager- "We are absolutely devastated to bow out of both domestic cups early; but the spending power of PSG and Monaco; they are expected to run over everybody. We did hold a lead against PSG; but Cavani was on form. But i can be happy over league performances albeit a few more draws did cost us a few points. Fekir has been fantastic as well as the whole squad at times so i can be happy with how things have gone so far and look forward to the rest of the season. Well the halfway point has arrived' let's see how well we have fared. League Table Well we are top and we are still unbeaten; but i know things will not last and PSG will turn up the heat. The derby between us and Marseille would have ended in a draw after we absolutely battered them off the pitch and was almost FM'ed with a 1-1 draw but captain fantastic Fekir came off the bench to score late to win 2-1 so it might be a different story at the top and could have been 5 points clear if we beat Toulouse before the 2 week break but was hampered with a 1-1 draw. Again Lille and Marseille are the surprises down at the bottom half of the table but at the other end Metz and Guingamp have performed above expectations and sit in 3rd and 4th. Domestic Cups. We weren't handed the best of draws in both competitions and we were dumped out by Monaco and PSG. The less is said of that; the better. Europa League It ended unbeaten but we couldn't beat Sociedad after we came from 2-0 behind and 3-2 behind to salvage a draw with Mariano to thank for scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot. We go on to play Zorya in the First Knockout Round away. All in all. Fekir and Mariano have been phenomenal with Mariano scoring 17 goals in all competitions with 7 assists which shows he is a good quality player; whilst Fekir has played pretty well with his key goals and assists. I am disappointed with Bertrand Traore after under-performing when given the chance; but he has scored goals but not as many as i would like.
