I did this for FM19 by adding a Berlin team.

Did it for FM20 with a London team.

Both are saturated of course, but all clubs there are sort of regional, at least in name for the bigger ones.

So the idea was to create a club for the entire city.

For a second club you could also do Florence from Italy. Maybe Newcastle if you want England. And there's also Malaga in Spain.

None of those are 500k. Arbitrary bar, of course, but has to be set somewhere.

Palermo kind of makes sense since it has been a basket-case of a club for a while. Could establish another fan-breakaway team from scratch and try and do things right? The south of italy gets hard-done by and I think Napoli are the only consistent southern team in the top tier so getting more representation could be a good goal :)

Oooo I love the idea of a team on the side of Etna! Imagine the headlines if I throw a water bottle! Reckon if I had a team on the other side of Sicily, they'd still develop a rivalry with Palermo?

  3. Hi guys.

I've been really enjoying my French created club (starting in the Championnat National) in the last few months - I created a team for Courchevel, my favourite ski resort...I loved the idea of putting a team into a place I knew had no football teams (for obvious reasons) but that I knew well. I'm not going to get to the kind of glory I dream about  of CL glory or anything - I started this game late after a couple of other saves (I may not make it to Ligue 1 to be honest), but I hope to have just this one save for the FM22 cycle.

I want to do something similar but I don't want to do the French league again (or England which I've done before). Just wanted some ideas as to which leagues could work well here. My criteria:

Needs to be at least 3 divisions (and probably no more, to be honest - I don't think I'll get up from tier 9 to the top here!).
    No DB tweaks needed
Ideally I'd like a nice big team to be a potential future rival - this could just be a country-based rivalry (Arsenal/Man Utd type) or, perhaps, a big city I know well which has just one major team at the moment.
A fairly obvious logo to use (Courchevel has a logo already so that was really easy)
Names I can pronounce (so probably not Eastern Europe, although I'm fine with Western European languages).

I'm leaning towards a big league because of the 3rd point above....presumably Germany, Italy or Spain, although if anyone can persuade me that trying a new continent could keep my interest I would be open to it (but not at all convinced!). So which league do you think could be good and what kind of club (location wise) could be interesting?

A few ideas I had off the bat:

There are only 12 cities in Europe with a population of over 500k and just one football team. I could create a second. I'd want to have some sort of credible back-story as to why a second would be set up and what kind of club it would be, but it could be fun to be a second team in :

    Naples
Marseille (avoiding France this time though, I think)
    Leeds
    Palermo
    Zaragoza
Wrolclav (probably not, just because of names!)
    Dusseldorf
    Dortmund
    Malaga
    Bremen
    Hannover
    Lyon (but probably not France)

These locations appeal to me significantly because the way I understand it, if I'm the only other team in a big city, my youth intakes are likely to be better than in a similar sized city with four, five, or thirteen (that's London, the most of any city) professional teams?

The other option is to go for a place that does not have a team at all - Courchevel was great for this, and I guess I quite like the idea of having a team in a very remote place too. Somehow the idea that PSG and co might be travelling up beyond 1000m for our home games seems funny to me!

One other consideration: Is it more fun to try to build a rivalry with big teams (whether Real/Barca, Juventus, PSG or Bayern) or to dominate a smaller league and try to drag it up to become a major league? My feeling is that the latter might take me forever - I'm not exactly an FM natural despite playing it for about 25 years! But not ruling it out entirely.

Any of these are potentially interesting projects. Anyone with significant experience of any of these leagues (obviously I'm not really considering Leeds!), please let me know what you think. The only thing I know for sure is that I will be starting in the lowest league playable with no downloaded DBs.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. For FM20 I got a skin that showed the players' faces next to their shirts on the tactics screen. It was a lovely addition that made me feel like I knew my players better. Does anyone know if there's a skin out yet for FM21 that does this? Ideally quite close to the original skin which I love (big fan of the purple look).

  5. I'm in my second season and suddenly every game is doing this: I get to the fixtures, click "Match" to take me to the team selection screen and I just get this (see screenshot). I can browse the game but I can't progress it. I've found a temporary fix (I go to the status screen and "relinquish control" - not sure why this is an option since it's not a network game), which means I skip the game and can resume after it, but obviously this is not a permanent fix, as it means I can't actually play games. Any idea how I can fix this?

AP on support cannot be as attack-minded as a mezzala on attack, and not just because the AP's individual mentality will be lower than the mezzala's (due to the difference in duties), but also because AP as a role is less attack-minded than mezzala by default. In a similar fashion that WB as a role is more attack-minded than standard FB even if they are played on the same duty.

Even AP on attack duty will be (slightly) less attack-minded than mezzala on attack. And when I say "attack-minded", I am primarily referring to their relative positioning on the pitch along with willingness to make early forward runs in attacking transitions.

Huh? I always assumed AP was the most attacking role for the CM position?!

  7. 8 hours ago, Experienced Defender said:

Depends on how you would tweak the rest of the setup in order to accommodate the new role. Especially as you are not changing the role only but also duty.

At the moment I haven't changed anything else (though I realise I may need to). I was thinking that an AP on support might be as attacking as a Mez on attack...unjustified assumption?

  8. 1 hour ago, Experienced Defender said:

The left flank looks like asking for trouble defense-wise. Fortunately, just a small tweak can improve things there significantly - switch Tierney's duty from attack to support, That would not just make the left flank more solid defensively but also improve your attacking play in terms of space creation and utilization ;)

Regarding the attacking trio, IF on attack duty and PF on attack duty is not an optimal combo. It's not to say that it cannot work, just not an "ideal" partnership. So if you want a striker on attack duty together with an IF also on attack, I would recommend a creator type of striker role (DLF, CF or TQ) rather than simple runner/scorer (PF, AF or poacher).

As for instructions, it's highly recommendable to start with as few as possible - i.e. only those that roughly define your intended style of play - and then make small gradual tweaks if or when needed. Because when you use too many TIs - as you do in this tactic - if/when things go wrong, it is much harder to figure out where the problem potentially lies.

When it comes to duties, what is "enough" is entirely relative and - like everything else - depends on a number of factors including the style of play you want to implement (as well as how you want to implement it). Besides, distribution of duties within the system is as important (if not even more) as the mere number of them.

What exactly do you mean by (his) "best role"? What criteria do you use to determine what is one's "best role"?

Just by attributes - his fit being an AP best. Hasn't really got the work rate for the DLP role. He's basically an upgrade on Ozil!

  9. Cheers - didn't know Ps&Cs had been updated. I think it mainly suggests that my tactic is already pretty much spot on!

Any thoughts? The only thing I cant do specifically (although I think it happens naturally a bit) is to instruct my DM to cover when either wing-back gets forward, which is a clear tactic being used by the current team...

(NB screenshot is of a semi-rotated team, don't worry too much about personnel!)

  10. I'm currently playing as Arsenal in preparation for FM21...my idea was to develop and perfect a tactic which would at least give me a good starting point for the new season. I know the engine will be tweaked but my thinking is that if I get it perfected in FM20, it'll at least be a good starting point in FM21.

I've never really developed my own tactics on the more recent FMs, but I want to this time. My question is - is there a guide on the process of doing this? I know there's plenty of analysis available but I'm never quite sure what to look for and how to fix any issues I do see. Does anyone know if there's a useful guide anywhere on here that doesn't do it for you but gives you pointers on how I can do it?

  11. I've had to accept that Stolworthy's time at the Dragons has come to an end. He leaves after two full seasons, with a pretty impressive record:

    94 games
    91 goals
    21 assists
    26 PoM
    Average Rating of 7.74

He is the best player we have ever had by a long lnog way. Nobody else has left yet with anywhere close to 100 games who also has an average rating over 7.15 (Ellis Harrison).

The first of quite a few legends to come in the next couple of seasons has left. As you can see from the screenshot, he just wasn't going to be up to it in the Conference. But he leaves after 6 years with an overall KD record of:

    255 games
    42 goals
    75 assists
    12 PoM
    Average Rating of 7.05

He joins Grubb, Raggett and Harrison in the ranks of the KD greats (my list, not FM), but at least one and up to four more will join him this summer.

  13.   2030/31 Season Review

I hope you enjoyed that rollercoaster ride of emotions - I honestly can't remember a more dramatic end to a season in my FM career!

     A2023294DC19DC7EDDEA2492B3578CBBA650EAC3

So here is the final table, and the team of the year which accurately sums up the state of my squad!

In some ways more exciting was the cup run which saw us reach the third round for the first time ever, including a dramatic shock against Swindon of League 2. The 9-0 win, by the way, was against a team just one division below me, and with a second team out!

    1FC0CFBB484A781A0CCDB6BDDA85E9475619D77B

It was enough to give me a youth recruitment upgrade as well as an academy upgrade so I might finally start seeing some proper players coming through at the club!

So we can all thank Des Stolworthy for his service; although I am still annoyed with the board for sanctioning the transfer, I suppose given that it was looking unlikely he would sign, they might have been right, even if they got less money than they could have done. They didn't even get a sell-on clause!!!

But Kevin Gough looks like he may be a very important player for me with Stolworthy gone: I will try to replace Stolworthy for sure but I doubt I'll get anyone as good as him.

Owen Betts' influence at the back end of the season after signing late in January was critical even if the form in the last few games nearly cost us dearly!

Stolworthy is the only major player we're losing this summer (in terms of quality: watch out for some legends departing for sure!):

    20CD5E3D26C933FBC51DEF4FD7309E85FAADD455

The player of the season was obvious again, but because he left and came back, Stolworthy clearly wasn't eligible (a minor FM flaw), so Gough won it. Four players inducted into the historical team this year, which is a lot! Stolworthy, Readings, Wolf Hall (real name Andy Hall-Molyneux) and Mota. I was wrong about Picco being around for a long time, I fear: he hasn't improved enough to be a first-choice in the National League.

Bad news is that the board decided to waste over half the money the cup run brought in on a totally pointless stadium expansion!

    Transfer Thinking

There are two ways of doing this: I think my squad is good enough that I could get away with just two first-team signings: left back and striker. In reality, I think the quality of player I could attract has increased so much that there will be a major overhaul. For example, when I signed DJ (Dean Jee) at the start of the season after failing to attract him four times, he was my best player by rating. His performances did dip at the end of the season so that partially explains it but he is now thought to be the weakest link in the 9 players I think could be first-team ready for next year. Things are evolving very fast here!

    Future Plans

Since lockdown I've been binge-watching various streamers and it got me thinking about my next project. This could change, but I'm currently thinking that I will aim to win everything with Kensington Dragons and establish myself as the best team in the world alongside being England manager and aiming to win the Euros and the World Cup, and if I manage to win it all with KD, I will leave and aim to complete the "Pentagon Challenge" and win the title in Spain, Italy, France and Germany too. Usually this would be impossible but I have so much time with lockdown, that it might not be.
