I really like the match engine from fm17. Maybe because it was the last FM on the old match engine (FM 18 was rebuilt in terms of 2D and 3D graphics). Removing the ability to choose team fluidity regardless of roles was the final nail in the coffin -

Worst match engine in fm history, defenders make mistakes and the referee dictates a penalty (7 matches and 7 penalties). If we don't boycott fm24, si will only count money!
