  1. Well I've been sacked many times with any kind of team imaginable, title favorites where I've lost title, relegation fodders which i have not managed to save despite playing well, mid teams that didn't fare well (sacked within objectives). The last one is the most difficult, even if you are predicted 9th and finish 12th the board is not going to sack you probably.

Since 23 I've slowly moved away from 4-3-3, and every time I try to go back I'm reminded why. The issue is the striker, he's a glorified spectator and unless he gets goals or assists he's a guaranteed 6.4 or lower. Any tips?

Put him on support, problem solved. He'll drop deep and link play just as is intended at any 4-3-3 that makes sense that I know. On attack duty ofc he'll just lurk and wait for his opportunities just like irl.

    Thanks for the replies fellas.

What i will say i've played about 15 games, and i'm yet to see any real halfspace cross, not just from my rcm, that i want to do it, but in general from any player. I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Also with the stay wider suggestion, that is hardcoded in the mezzala, so shouldn't be an issue. I have also tried with a different role just without the stay wider. And honestly my rcm takes up roughly the same positions, but just doesn't cross it from the right half space

I've seen it a few times in my save, no specific instructions. The player who executed it had crazy skill (technical and mental attributes), he's my best player. I was playing him in a playmaker role if it helps (roaming playmaker).

  4. Hmm if the "cross more often" player instruction doesn't help I don't know what will do it. One thing I've noticed, some players (low-ish teamwork maybe?) play to their strengths and ignore some tactical instructions, if your midfielders are poor in crosses maybe they refrain from using them. Maybe try "stay wider" player instruction too so they'll be in the positions that De Bruyne is.

Edit: Also, the player needs good vision and anticipation at least to execute the cross.

I appreciate your replys. So it seems there is no way to make a center midfielder to do exactly what I want in FM24?

Is there a place for players to provide ideas for FM25? I think it is quite often to see a center midfielder moves to sidelines in real life for build-up purposes and providing width , especially in the current football meta of using inverted fullbacks or wingbacks.

It happens literally all the time for me. I play with mez and use "run at defense" which i think does it. When they find a gap they dribble there. They also do it without the ball many times, maybe it's an attribute issue?

Edit: You can also use overlap, that might also do it.
Edit no 2: Whatever role you use for the midfielder, make sure he has "roam from position" checked.

  6. Yes, it's at the same place(coach discussion)? I think it works for me, I have removed a couple. You go to traits, discuss new trait and it's at the equivalent category. If you cannot do it, maybe it's a bad coach thing or a bug maybe?

  7. I check the opponent wingers mainly and the forward, if the forward is pacy I put my fast CB there if not my tall one. Wingers, are they inverted or not, I then use similar footed fullbacks and also check acceleration /pace. In mid i choose whether to play my strong DM or rotate depending if they have strong midfield or not. That kind of stuff. i tend not to adjust my forwards to their back-line and go with the typical support forward + two inverted wingers.

I always avoid that. Playing with 3 central strikers its not realistic and it takes advantage from ME, I guess.

There are teams that have been playing like that though irl, Toulouse FC comes to mind they were playing like that and had managed to stay in Ligue 1 for a long time.

You can find comments from Klopp and Salah at the time where it's stated that his job was to play as close to the opposition CBs as possible. That tells you straight off the bat that playing him as an AF would be a good starting point.

If I remember correctly, they also saw their system as more of a 442/4411 than the 433 people commonly put it down as. Personally I always thought it was a diamond, given how deep Firmino played and how narrow the 'wide' forwards always were.

A pure 4-3-1-2 indeed, if I remember properly too. Used to play like that and my two strikers with "stay wider" instruction scored a lot.

The difference is that the IWB(s) will be inside playing as a 6 when the ball is turned over. This will create a gap down his side of the pitch that can be exploited. In terms of playing against it..stick your quick, dribbly winger on that side and have a field day w/ a direct transition.

While this is technically true, the transition would have to be very very fast and the guy who passes the ball must first find space and get past the opponent who counter-presses (because he does) to actually execute that pass. It's not that simple.

@CVass Only thing I would change is getting Hojlund out of the box sometimes in a support role, he would be more useful linking people than just sitting up front. He certainly has the attributes to achieve this.

I usually do a Darlington save in every FM (haven't done it yet for FM24, although I have looked at the squad).

442 is never a bad option at that level, but Darlington certainly have the players for a 433. I think LLM teams can play any kind of football, but you should probably keep it simple in terms of roles - you won't find many (any!) registas or raumdeuters down there. DMs can also be hard to find, I think.

When it comes to recruitment, the advice to focus on trials is right and you have a good base for recruitment from the north-eastern league sides, both for released players and potential loans. I usually focus on Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesboro, Hull, Leeds and the Sheffield clubs. And don't spend any money on transfers until you're at least at L1 level.

A couple of years ago I took Darlington to three promotions in four years (got stuck for a year in the National League), so there's plenty of potential there.

    Good luck

PS: Liddle can be an absolute star for you!

Thanks, i've noticed all of your points, they do seem to fit to a 4-3-3 and Liddle seems good. Will check the local teams for sure!

  11. Hello, just started an LLM (lower league management for those who don't know) save, more specifically with Darlington at Vanarama North and honestly I have no idea what to do, the save is completely fresh, any tips? Is there a thread which can help me? Share your wisdom please!

  12. It seems like it's too attacking for my taste (not that it's a bad thing), the tactic probably lacks support in the left side I think. It seems like Lukaku is terrible, maybe make him a TF(A) or even a TF(su) to not even attempt efforts but bring others into play? Not a fan of natural footed inside forward (Jackson) , make him a winger(su), he'll still cut enough if needed. Anchor at Caicedo seems like a waste for his physicals, make him a traditional DM? Your keeper is lacking in decisions according to FM, so try him as SK-d so he'll be more cautious. Mydruk should cut inside a lot, iw-su??? Also if you keep Callagher (or Nkunku) at support he will link up with everyone better, including Lukaku who seems isolated with anyone dribbling on attack around him. So either make a TM-su and AM-att or a TN-A and AM-su combo (the latter would be my preference). Finally, make Disasi a nncb, I believe that'll vastly improve defense, he's not a progressive style defender. That's what I would change.

Could you share your other tactic that you use at home/against smaller sides?

Sure mate, the first one is my more balanced one which uses the rpm instead of the BBM because he helps a little bit more with the ball. The DM becomes a traditional defensive midfielder then. The second one (with the double iwb) has a certain "no defense, just vibes" feeling to it. It's being used when I'm desperate or against really weak teams (though it's a good formation for any opponent, really). Both fully press as you can see.

  14. Here's mine, not sure if the instructions are a lot or not tbh. I've also showed some of my players so you'll get an idea of my team strength (they are all real players). I use it against strong teams and at away games (not all). I've beaten teams like Napoli and Milan many times using it.

Hi all. In the data hub, match analysis I am consistently getting a thumbs down for ‘weak influence’. Does this mean I have been unable to influence the game as it’s happening?

No ,"weak influence" refers to a specific player on your team who doesn't do much. You can click on weak influence to see who, it's clickable at the tactics screen(not sure about the hub).
