  1. Australia U23 2016 Olympics update

For Australia U23 I tried using a similar tactic to the one I was using for my club side Nublense. The result was goals - lots of goals. I was drawn alongside Brazil, Sweden and USA in my Olympics Group. The first match was frustrating, as I threw away a 3-1 lead against Sweden to draw 3-3 with the last Sweden goals coming in 76th and 87th minutes. The second match was against a strong Brazil team, consisting of Alex Sandro, Gabriel Barbosa and Neymar to name a few. They were too strong for me and were 3-0 up soon after half term. Two late goals made the scoreline closer than it should have been.

I needed a win in the last game against USA and for Brazil to get a result against Sweden in order to qualify for the next round. Things started well with Stefan Mauk scoring after 28 minutes to put us 1-0 up. This started a goal fest and in the remaining 17 minutes of the half USA went 3-1 up, but Christopher Oikonomidis pulled one back to make it 3-2 at half time. Unfortunately, we didn't turn up in the second half and ended up losing 5-2 to finish with an overall record of 1 point from 3 games, scoring 7 and conceding 11! I was relieved of my duties straight after the match as "there were no competitive fixtures to come" - but I think I would have been asked to leave even if there were some fixtures to come!

On the club front, I had a clear out of players in the transfer window and bought in some loan signings to bolster the squad. I have been knocked out of the Chile cup in the group stage with the "highlight" being an away 0-0 draw and a narrow 2-1 home defeat to First Division sides. I beat fellow First Division B side Deportes Antofagasta 2-0 in the away tie, but lost by the same scoreline at home as I rested my first choice team for a league fixture 3 days later due to not being able to qualify for the next round of the cup.

Good to see you are trying to complete this challenge again vike. Congratulations to all who have won trophies / gained promotion since my last update. Enjoying reading updates from everyone.

  2. @numero uno gunner - I managed to get a job in January 2016 as the below update describes. Looking forward to seeing where your new job is.

    Nublense 2015/16 report

Club Deportivo Ñublense S.A.D.P were the first team to take a chance on a 20 year old Englishman. They were bottom of the closing stage in the First Division B after 3 games having finished 7th in the opening stage. The board set no real expectations and told me "not to be outclassed". We started badly with 3 losses in the first 3 games where I tried to find a tactic that worked, but ended up with a reasonable(ish) record of P12 W4 D3 L5. This meant that we finished 13th in the closing stage and 11th overall.

Central midfielder Octavio Pozo was named as fans player of the year, but for me it was his partner Tomas Lanzini who was solid in the centre, making lots of interceptions and recycling the ball well. Sadly, neither player will be with us next year as they refused to enter negotiations with us and were snapped up by teams in the Argentine and Mexican top divisions.

Similarly, top goal scorer Sebastian Varas didn't sign a new contract and is off to join Octavio Pozo in the Argentine top division. Also, my first choice centre back Washington Torres and second choice striker were both loan signings so will no longer be with us next season. However, both are out of contract at the end of the year and I may consider signing them depending who else is available.

I expect to be busy in the close season trying to find players to fill the gaps of those departing. Also, the squad is short in quality on the wings (which led to me playing a 5-3-2 of sorts for most of my games in charge) so I will try and address this.

I also have been offered the role of U23 manager for the Australia national team ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio. I am in a group with USA, Sweden and Brazil so will see how it goes!

  3. Hi guys. Been following this thread for a while and have decided to give it a go myself. I personally have had enjoyable international management experiences in past FMs and am looking forward to a challenge that includes both club and international management. I have loaded all leagues from Chile, Australia, South Africa and England down to league 2.

Belated congratulations to everyone who has completed this by the way - incredible achievement.
