  1. You can set it up from the opening post, it has 3 team instructions and only two of the positions have PIs.
  2. Hey Ozil, great work again. Just wondering about PPMs in this and what you look to train players to do. I'd guess there would be liberal use of 'Plays short simple passes' for the defenders and 'Plays one-twos' for most of the others, but are there any others you like to go for in terms of movement etc.?
  3. @Ö-zil to the Arsenal! Having read through all of your other threads and seen how you have 'evolved' and made slight changes to how you create your preferred style, albeit whilst recreating different real life tactics, is there anything you would change to this one if you were to make it now?
  4. Hey, good work on this. I always love people trying to recreate Pep's Barca, and it's starting to come together nicely with my Newcastle save (FM16). I've been trying to come up with a general list of PPMs to train that would make the most of the system and get the younger players playing like the team they will be replacing. Ozil, could you check this and see if there are any you would add or remove? SK - Plays short simple passes (this can't be done on FM16 but I think I've seen it on 17?) BPD - Plays short simple passes HB - Plays short simple passes, stays back at all times WB - Gets forward whenever possible, Runs with ball down right/left, Hugs line DLP - Comes deep to get ball, Plays one-twos, Dictates tempo AP - Trys killer balls often, Plays one-twos, Dictates tempo IF - Cuts inside, Gets into opposition area, Runs with ball often SS - Comes deep to get ball, Trys killer balls often, Runs with ball often
  5. If you want to try and train a player to be a goal scoring midfielder, given a CM(a) role, what schedule would be best to use that doesn't also try and improve unnecessary defensive or creative attributes?
  6. I'd say HB and that's what I'm using at the minute. Any would probably work though, Busquets is brilliant.
  7. Hmm, not sure why it is then. Does he have any other PPMs that might conflict with it?
  8. I've noticed this before with PPMs, and some seem to be linked to position. Try retraining them as an AM for a little bit and they might be able to learn it then.
  9. Yeah, had the same thoughts about the Raumdeuter role not being suitable after seeing that given he sits narrow. It's a shame, because I thought at first it would fit better than an IF who I tend to see as more of an inverted winger than a goal scorer like Villa.
  10. Just thought I'd share this. Obviously more relevant to Pep's Barca than Enrique's, but still interesting. According to Thierry, they seemed to play very rigid and then change to fluid in the final third. I'm assuming it couldn't be done, but any ideas on how you could possibly do that on FM?
  11. I haven't been playing FMC very long but I'm really starting to prefer it over the normal mode. There is an annoying little issue I've found with training though. I have all my players set so that I control their individual training, however if I play them a couple of times in a different position, they automatically start learning this as a new position. I don't want this to happen as it takes up their training time, especially if I'm just bringing them on into the position as a sub for 20 minutes here and there. Is this a bug or something, or if it's supposed to happen is there a way to stop it?
  12. If you wanted to try and replicate the PPM 'Comes deep to get ball' with a PI would it be better to use 'Hold position' or 'Roams from position'?
  13. Just as a quick thought experiment, how viable is it to have a tactic that has basically no instructions and just left pretty generic? For example; Flexible Standard GK-D FB-S CD-D CD-D FB-S WM-A CM-D CM-S WM-A DLF-S AF-A No Team or Player Instructions.
  14. Thanks for putting this all together in one post so I don't have to keep reading through the whole thread. I've still been pretty much using the setup I posted in #187, however the newer roles seem to be working a lot better in the latest version. I've also tried changing the philosophy to Very Fluid to see what effect that has as it makes sense for the Barca approach of everyone contributing the team ethos of keeping possession, but I'm not sure about it. I've been thinking about trying to include the use of PIs as well to reflect the PPMs that the Barca players have when using the tactic for my Newcastle team, but I want to try and get settled on using the correct roles first.
  15. I've just switched to FMC and noticed this too. It seems to just be a rule that you can still sign the player but aren't able to play him until you get a work permit. Not really sure how you go about getting one after you've signed, but you can loan them out so that might be the way. Probably best to Germany or Holland where they don't need one but will get one since they are playing in the EU.
  16. Just a quick thought, does the new Raumdeuter role better represent the wide role that Pedro and Villa played rather than an inside forward. To me it seems that they were more focused on making the off ball runs to get onto the through balls from Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta than picking the ball up and running inside at the defense.
  17. I've been playing the game almost as long as I can remember, first taking it seriously with CM 03/04. Throughout that time I've evolved from downloading the 'Diablo' tactics to eventually learning to create my own upon the discovery of TT&F 09. My first major success in tactic creating has been the development of a Barca-esque 4-3-3/4-6-0 (as seen in wwfan's Barca thread) which finally got 'perfected' in this year's version. However, having tried to play the same way for such a long time I've become bored and would like to try and create something different. Here is the situation; I started a new game as Hoffenheim thinking I could create history for the club with my tiki-taka obsession, and after two seasons of mid-table mediocrity and the previously mentioned boredom, I thought I would try and make a 4-4-2 with an unbeatable 'Italian' style defence. The problem was I didn't really know that much about playing that way other than my stereotypical assumptions of an Italian defence and what I was able to find and read about Arrigo Sacchi's Milan, which has resulted in a terrible season so far and the board have told me I am on the verge of being sacked. This then lead me to try and be inspired by something much closer to home - Roy Hodgson. That is when I found this article http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2012/jun/05/euro-2012-roy-hodgson-england-tactics There are others (notably zonalmarking.com), however this article gives a pretty good outline of what I want to try and achieve and here is what I've been able to glean from it: Zonal marking Diagonal balls Overlapping runs from deep Prioritise possession Know when to sit back, defend, and soak up pressure Hard pressing High offside line Counter attack with long passes behind the defence "stifle initiative, and turn players into robots" People pushing up Getting the ball forward into the final area much more quickly Obsessed with shape Fair amount of freedom to express in attack Strict zonal positions in defence 'Put a shift in' "When out of possession, the back four stays perfectly in line, moving forward and back as though one unit, the midfield four (or five) rippling according to where the ball was, one advancing, the other three (or four) forming the blanket of cover behind, maintaining a gap of no more than 15 yards, often less, to the defensive line." Formation - 4-4-2 GK - GK(D) DR - FB(S) DCR - CD(D) DCL - CD(D) DL - FB(S) MR - W(A) MCR - CM(D) MCL - CM(S) ML - W(A) STRC - DLF(S) STLC - AF(A) I've just gone for basic roles as there is no real need for specialists, although I could consider changing the supporting midfielder to a DLP/AP or maybe making one of the strikers a TM. Fluidity - Very Fluid (We want the team working as a collective within the system, not individuals with specific instructions) Mentality - My first assumption would be Counter, but with the team mentality system being so confused I'm not sure. Team Instructions - Here I'm struggling. I don't know how you'd go about prioritising possession whilst playing long diagonal passes behind the defence, except just not instructing anything and leaving it 'Mixed'. Look For Overlap seems to fit for penetration, and maybe Exploit The Flanks. Shape is a bit easier as it seems we need to Push Higher Up, and maybe Stick To Positions (although that may be too restrictive for attacking freedom). For defending I guess we'd use Hassle Opponents and Play Offside Trap Finally, Be More Disciplined is probably the best option. Again it may restrict attacking freedom, but hopefully this would be covered by an increased creative freedom from the Very Fluid philosophy. So there are my basic thoughts, can anyone offer advice on how to improve this or see any fundamental reasons why it shouldn't work? My players aren't entirely suited to the formation after two years of playing so differently, however they are good enough to adapt and should at least be able to see me safe until I can rebuild in the summer.
  18. Just wanted to congratulate you on a brilliantly helpful piece of writing.
  19. I've noticed that since the latest patch, a few of the PPMs have changed for some of the original Barca players. For example, Xavi and Iniesta no longer have 'Plays short, simple passes' and they have been replaced with 'Plays one-twos' (Xavi) and 'Likes to switch ball to other flank' (Iniesta). Also, Pique no longer likes to 'Play longer passes'. Has anyone noticed if this is having an effect on how they are playing? I'm too far into the game to see, but I have my players learning PPMs to mirror the way the Barca players for each role so would be interested to know if I need to make some changes.
  20. After my time at Newcastle I applied and got the job at Barca who'd just saked Martino for finishing 7th. So far this season I've been playing the tactic I posted earlier, with the exception of changing the forward (Messi) to a Trequartista. It seems to be working well in terms of getting a lot more goals and assists than when I had a CF(s), but I don't know if that is due to the change in role or just because it's Messi and he's forming a defence destroying partnership with Neymar as the AML.
  21. I'm pleased that it's started to work for you. I have my CF on support rather than attack, when I tried the F9 role I found that he would just end up taking loads of long shots. My Newcastle team seem to have the same thing of taking lots of shots, often in the 20s, but not getting that many on target. Not really sure how this relates to the tactic though. However, I think the stats are skewed slightly by the fact that we end up having quite a lot of corners, which usually results in lots of headers and any sort of bobble in the area being counted as a shot. I think a better reflection of the play is if you check the 'Scoring Chances' section of the analysis tab, which will allow you to see how good the proper chances do you create are.
  22. Sorry it took so long to reply, I've had a little break from playing FM. To be honest, recently I've been having the same problem. I don't know if this is just since the latest patch, but I have seen the same problems occur using different roles on previous versions. I think part of the problem is that we want the forward here to play just like Messi, but that doesn't really seem possible. There isn't one role from the game that fits, because in real life Messi almost seems to play two roles at the same time, both as a False 9/Trequartista and as an Advanced Forward/Poacher. Another problem is that neither of us are actually using Messi, so it could be that the players we have just aren't good enough! I would persevere with the CF(s), just because the in-game description should be exactly what we want, however, feel free to change it to one of the other playmaking/supporting forward roles and see how that works.
  23. http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/275877-The-Barcelona-Style-My-Interpretation?p=9419771#post9419771 This is the set-up I've been developing with Newcastle over the years, and currently in my second season on FM14 I'm challenging for the title and in the semi-finals of the Europa League. This is with almost exclusively the default squad, the only players I've bought and put into the first team are used as backup for Krul, Debuchy and Ben Arfa.
