  1. 2 ways of doing this as far as I know.

Rapcb's Pre-season friendlies pack here includes one of the ways which the International Champions Cup currently uses. Essentially, there's 3 groups of 4 teams with 1 round of fixtures, in a hidden stage 1, with all results applied to an overall league in stage 0. Take a look- you could do exactly this to have each team play set opponents of various abilities using seeding.

    https://sortitoutsi.net/content/52333/pre-season-competitions-v1

The second way is more flexible, but more random. You can set up a league with however many teams and have each team play any number of matches against other teams (provided both the number of matches and number of teams are even numbers). I've edited the PSF file below which contains both ways of doing it- the International Champions Cup and my custom tournament, the Arabian Super Cup which uses the second method. This is a league of 12 in which all teams play 4 matches against other clubs (24 matches total) and the top 2 progress to a final. Take a look at this too- it's all done inside a single stage but the fixtures are random I believe so it's possible that some clubs will only face easier opposition and other face only the best teams in their matches.

Hi everyone. I'm on FM19 doing a big Australian lower leagues system that I have invented. What I want is after 2 national divisions I want to split into 2 sub divisions for Level 3-one being for Australia and one being for the Pacific (mainly NZ); like this.

    A-League

    12 teams, 2 relegated

    A-League 2

    12 teams, 2 relegated

    Level 3

2 subdivisions of 16 and 12 teams respectively, winners promoted from each league

The problem is dealing with relegated teams. Say there were 2 Australian teams relegated, I wouldn't like to put one of them in the Pacific division as Australia is a long way from New Zealand. I'd then like the Australian division to grow to 17 teams and the Pacific one to become 11 teams. I understand I can probably do this by setting a maximum and minimum number of teams for the division but my question is is it possible to vary the amount of league fixtures based on the number of teams in the division? For example I'd like to have a double round robin when there's 14 teams but a triple round robin when there's 13 teams. Is this possible and if so how would i do that? I also have similar structures set up for the lower leagues.

    Thanks.

    Yes this is possible.

Untick 'number of rounds' under 'league settings' and instead choose 'set number of rounds from maximum matches'.

I use this system in the Irish regional divisions which can vary from 12-20 teams. A max of 48 matches would mean, for example, a 20 team league having 2 rounds, a 16 team league having 3 rounds and a 12 team league having 4 rounds of fixtures.

Any guidance and help very much appreciated

Try adding additional clauses below this (such as pick best 2 sides from competition). The game will still try and pick the 'last winner of competition' first, but if it can't, it will go to the next clause which it will definitely find teams from.

You may need to test in game, but in my experience 'get last winners from competition' does work in most cases.

The Scottish u18 league might be a parent competition (incl. Elite league I think) so try changing that and retesting.

Also is the U19 FAI Cup a custom cup? Don't remember that being in the game.

Also is this teams within the stage, or under 'Qualified teams'? I tend to do it within the stage most of the time.

One of those issues that just needs testing and retrying. Sometimes you want to find ways around the error to allow you to verify and test in game- for example here you might tick the 'Don't set up stage if not enough teams' under Stage 0 > General which will allow you to verify it and see if the teams are selected in game.

    Hey @L55DS

I see you've selected nations but you've not put the years of them, just default '2000', have you tried changing this?
I've fixed issues by changing the date to the year I want it before.

    Thanks,

    Luke

Hi Luke, thanks for the reply.

Yes, i have tried setting that to a specific year, left at the base year and tried with no year in that box at all, but it doesn't affect the outcome.

Have tried this in both 'host nation' and 'Possible host nation'.

I'm thinking the issue must be hardcoded into the game as it affects the unchanged Club World Cup in the default 21.4.0 database too.

It probably hasn't been picked up on by SI because it occurs quite a way into a game. By default, the tournament runs like so:

    February 2021- Held in Qatar

December 2021- Held in japan, final year of 7 team format

June 2022- Held in China, first edition of expanded format. No confirmation of this in real life.

June 2025- Always hosted in Japan (even if edited- the (2021+) format of the tournament always begins in Japan).

June 2029 onwards- Random host selection begins- which is bugged. A single stadium is selected to host entire tournament in most years beyond this date.

Essentially, the issue is with how the Club World Cup is hardcoded and all players will experience the issue if they play to 2029, so perhaps not even the correct section for this thread, although the ability to edit the competition is what I'm interested in.

Given the format of the future Club World Cup is yet to be finalised, it would be great if these hardcoded elements could be removed so that the FM Editor community can react to any changes announced by FIFA on this, or speculate ourselves on the format in the meantime. As I've shown here, it is already possible to an extent, but the hardcoded rule which incorrectly sets hosts/stadiums for this competition can't be overridden, and there many be other things too that I haven't encountered.

  5. Further to the above- I wanted to see whether this issue existed in the default database and sure enough, it does. The new structure only begins in 2025 but sim beyond that and you have entire competitions held in a single venue which isn't right.

Screenshots below are from a save gave with the latest 21.4.0 database loaded, no custom databases.

  6. I'm editing the Club World Cup and everything is behaving as expected except the host nation / stadium selection.

No matter what the host nation or possible host nation is set as in the editor, the host nations selected are always random. This would be fine, except sometimes the host nation is a single stadium, rather than 8 stadiums which you'd need to host a tournament this size.

Have tested up to 2030 and got the following results:

2021- Competition correctly held across Japan

2023- Competition held in Estadio La Cartuja de Seville, Spain

2025- Competition held in Celtic Park, Scotland

2027- Competition correctly held across Brazil

2029- Competition correctly held across France

2031- Will be South Korea, I expect this will work correctly

Screenshots below to demonstrate a functioning tournament in France and non-functioning one hosted in Scotland.

Have tried every combination of host nation on/off, possible host nation on/off, setting a host nation stadium pool, setting host nation stadium capacity requirements, setting a 'stadium pool', setting 'stadium requirements' but none of these are working. Do you know whether the host nations for the Club World Cup are hardcoded in the game? Have also tried copying the format into a blank editor file which detaches the 'file' link and sometimes breaks those hardcoded overrides, but it hasn't helped here.

  7. Serbia is one of the nations which is broken before you edit anything. Even if you just open the editor > Latest Database > add lower divisions to existing structure > Serbia > convert to advanced rules, then save and test, you get this error.

It might be possible to fix the issue but may take some time to do (used to be a similar issues in NI and Wales which I managed to solve), but we shouldn't have to. You also used to be able to force verify the XML file whihc you can no longer do, so you're completely stuck.

Can I suggest SI go through every nation and test whether the advanced rules work by default? Should only take someone an afternoon, and you can identify all of these bugs.

    @L55DS

I was looking around the editor a while ago and I found that this is linked to editing the domestic league rather than being linked to the continental competition (which would be so much easier if it was). If you set the qualification rules in the domestic league so that the top 4 qualify for the Champions League then you'll get the colour coding back. I'm not sure why by the way but 2nd - 4th show up as a darker green instead of the default blue.

"Show Continental Cup Seedings" in the competition flag is for the Competition Overview page (the seedings panel shows up in between the fixtures panel and the past winners panel), which displays every team in the competition. That is definitely bugged this year for continental competitions.

What I would recommend is if you know which continental file you want to use for your save, set the qualification rules in the domestic league so that the number of places match up with your continental file. The only problem is that you would have to do this for every nation in Europe if you wanted the bands for each top league. This is why the bands should be tied to the continental competition instead of the domestic ones.

Good to know, I'll try this, thanks

  9. I've made a similar competition before here. You could edit the fmf file here to get the result you describe.

.... I was going to give you a tutorial but realised I'm doing it anyway so easier to just share a new FMF file. If you're happy to include teams from Ireland and Northern ireland, this file below (Union Cup Edit) is ready to go! This just includes the Union Cup, which features teams from across the British Isles, but none of the other changes from the database above.

If you want you can make changes to the 'Union Cup' teams list like so- then change the stage structure to match. the stage structure is pretty badly done (I was new to the editor when I did this) but works at the moment. Make sure your structure works in terms of when teams enter the competition, ect. You could simply delete the stage structure and team list and start again, that might be easiest.

I had also edited the FA Youth cup to use teams from across the British Isles too but if you don't want this, simply delete these teams from the teams list:

Hmm, subtle that one. You will have to pick a extinct nation though, right? Otherwise a team could qualify for a different competiion?

I don't believe so- I also tested putting Arsenal's Continental Cup nation to Wales and because they don't play in any Welsh competition that could qualify them for Europe, they never do. However there may be some domestic tournaments that select teams based on teams' continental cup nations so to be sure, I'd set it as an extinct nation.

  11. The ignoring teams method above should definitely work too if set up correctly, but is vulnerable to bugs (ie if the teams list doesn't contain enough teams, the game doesnt know what to do and ignores the 'ignore team' function).

I think theres other ways in the advanced editor that you can ban teams for set number of years but can't remember where.

A much simpler solution- edit the database and change a clubs 'Continental cup nation'. In the example below I simply changed this to 'Great Britain'. If you just do this, The club will play in the European comps in the first season, but won't subsequently qualify (unless they win the EURO Cup or Champions League in that first season). To fix this, you want to also remove the teams from the 'Registered teams' section of the European competitions for which they have already qualified (in the case of Arsenal, the EURO Cup; see bottom image). This way, they'll stop playing in European competitions immediately.

Any suggestions for future features can be made here:

Thank you, but the OP is a bug rather than future request I think. SI have designed in the functionality to change the continental cup system in the pre game editor, but it's causing this problem that should be fixed. It might be possible for SI to introduce a new feature in lieu of fixing the problem, like an override that achieves the same thing, but ideally the bug will be fixed so that editing the continental cups does not cause the qualification indicators to disappear.

So, should I have a mini league of sorts, consisting of all 5 teams, and a reputation of 100, that would increase the chances of EPL clubs playing a young side for example?

And is it difficult to set it up to just include the winner from each country?

I reckon even less, make the reputation 50 or so, which is still a reasonable level for Welsh and Irish clubs but not that important for English and Scottish ones. Premier League sides will still field a strong squad though by default, as they do in most friendlies. If you want a more even contest, set the Premier League and Scottish premiership sides to use their U23 team under 'team type', rather than their senior squad.

It should be quite simple, under teams just add 'Last winner of competition' for each domestic league.

I suggest taking a look at this file which includes similar pre season competitions. This can be helpful sometimes to understand how it's done, or you can simply replace one of the tournaments in that database with your own teams and format.

    https://sortitoutsi.net/content/52333/pre-season-competitions-v1

  14. Yes, yes and sort of.

You could have the NI and ROI winner play each other in a 'Qualifying round' initial stage, with the winner qualifying for the group stage with the other three clubs.

You can also have a group of 5 teams, that's fine.

Depending on the reputation you give the tournament, EPL teams are likely to see it as less important as relatively for them, it's a low reputation tournament. For example a reputation of 100 would be low for an EPL club but very high / important for a Welsh or Irish club. Generally though, clubs don't have much interest in friendly tournaments anyway and the crowds reflect that.

  15. Whilst It is possible to recreate the continental qualification system from scratch, it always causes the following issue. I would have thought this wouldn't be a particularly complex fix but I've raised it before and haven't got a response. With a custom qualification system you lose the coloured bands which indicate continental qualifiers in your domestic leagues, as demonstrated below. There is  also an option in the editor to 'show continental cup seedings' which might be in reference top these bands but if so, they still don't show in game.

What we would like (it would solve about 10% of the queries on the Editors Hideaway) is a way of editing the continental cup qualifications system without it breaking the game in this way. It's already a complex procedure to edit as there isn't a simple way to edit advanced continental rules without some XML trickery, so allowing us to edit that would be preferable. But if not, then resolving this issue with the coloured bands would allow us to make do.

I've also attached Carlito85's UEFA revival XML to demonstrate, and can upload a save game with this set up too if helps.

    Hello Editors,

There are a few things that annoyed me since the game is released.

Some clubs in MLS with stuck with MLS like Inter Miami and Nashville even when i delete MLS and make a new competition.

Its now April and still nothing has been done to fix the Issue.

There are some Coëfficient rules in the editor but they all don't work, why can't we just copy the Europe style for other continents?

When people make Continental club cup why is there no colour on the league tables for positions for that continental Club?

This is a problem that has not been solved for years and the demand is high so why is it that there is never an explanation?

I worked long time on the USA database I created but I cannot play because I'm a perfectionist and I want to finish it before start playing.

But if there is never a fix for the problems I just mentioned than I can not play anymore.

Every year the game makes little changes but take full profit by selling and yet there is no attention on fixing what the community wants? its only a matter of time before some company will create a better game, or we as fans will mod it and step out of the original game.

Cant wait for a fix for this. I wonder if it's on SI's 'to do' list or whether we should give up waiting and try and find another way.

  17. You can edit this in the pregame editor, by setting the Champions League stadium requirements to allow terracing. No idea if it can be done with the in-game editor but I doubt it.

However, the game is accurate in this regard. Bayern and Dortmund have 'rail seats' which means their standing areas can be converted to all seaters for European competitions, which don't allow terracing. Your stadium may have conventional terracing which cannot convert, so those stands are simply closed for European matches. Any stadium upgrades in FM, as far as I'm aware, are always all-seater, so perhaps request a stadium expansion or new stadium.

What more info would you like mate ?

Well, what league are you looking at for a start? How did you change the number of subs allowed?

If your changes only apply after 2021 my first thought is have you applied the change to each of the list entries in the advanced editor? See here for example- some leagues like the national leagues have different rules depending on the number of teams involved. You need to make sure you apply your substitute changes to each.

It would be something else, but I dont know without more information on the problem. Sharing the editor file would be helpful.
