  1. Sorry as I forgot that detail.

    From right to left.

    • SK (de)
    • WB (at)
    • BPD (co) - He's on cover to open up space on the right for the halfback
    • BPD (de)
    • CWB (su) - Complete Wingback due to Barco being a superb ball player with 19 vision and such
    • RDM is a HB
    • LDM is either Regista, DLP or RPM depending on player, I prefer to have a more dynamic playmaker like Enzo Fernandez here playing as a Regista and roaming for space
    • Both Wingers are Inverted Wingers on support with instructions to sit narrow, plus with Overlap TI they come inside to allow the wingbacks to occupy the wings on the line of 6
    • Attacking Midfielder is currently a Trequartista but any role will fit here, I use it to make the most of Neymar
    • Forward is Attacking Forward but again any role will do, you can even go with False 9 and swap the Att Mid to Shadow Striker

    I think that's it.

    Oh and both centrebacks are encouraged to dribble more to make use of free space and drag defenders out of position.

    Feel free to ask any questions :thup:

  2. Those two formations focus on stretching the defensive line of the opposition while creating overloads on wings and numerical superiority on the build up, so I'd start by looking at those principles and thinking if you're happy with them or would rather focus on something else. Another thing to consider is that the 3-1-6 focus on using a playmaker to craft quality passes to the front "6" while relying on the back 3 to cover and recycle. So another thing to consider.

    Lastly, you'd perhaps be interested in a hybrid formation where one player can at one moment be a build-up support piece and the next become a rampant menace. Roles like inverted wingback, false 9, shadow striker, raumdeuter fit that profile.

    Then I'd please ask you to explain to us what the changes are that you make. If you don't change anything and the results are this different that would make absolutely no sense because it's really not "plug and play" when it's the same Arsenal players with the same attributes, is it. Just because somebody else is sitting in front of the game the calculations aren't different. If you don't give any hints on what you change to counteract the weaknesses of the tactic, which were shown by multiple people here, how can anybody know?

    As already stated, it’s not about getting the same results but considering some of us are using same team, start of a career, probably all got our managers set to the highest qualifications possible, Only one tactic in use, probably have similar training set ups I’d expect to see something similar(not identical) My pre season was heavily focused on tactical familiarity and team cohesion.

    The results here with my test with Arsenal absolutely fit the experience you and others had, I'm having a big deja-vu here getting hit on the break for fun and passing the ball to death without creating much chances. I hope the author of the thread gives us an idea what he does to get these results since with multiple people trying it and getting nowhere close, the posted tactic and the PIs alone don't seem to be it.

    The easiest way to answer your question is to ask you to look at the name of thread and think about it for a second. It's not about goal scoring records and league winning campaigns. It's about development of a tactical concept (possesion, overloads, movement through positional interchange, pressure) through tactical cohesion and familiarity - colectively - and attriubute and role development - individually.

    @Ö-zil to the Arsenal!

    Great work! Incidentally I have a similar system in SL Benfica. I play in a 3-4-3 (5-2-2-1 WB), which naturally grants me the 3-2-5 shape attacking. Biggest differences would be:

    1. I have 3 attacking roles, as I feel the added penetration of pressing forward and wingbacks is a worthy tradeoff for your beloved fluid unit.
    2. One of the wingbacks is inverted, forming the double pivot with the holding midfielder, allowing the box-to-box to venture forward into the line of five, while the winger on that side sits high and wide just like Saka, to force 1v1 against the fullback.
    3. I don't have a single playmaking role, as I feel it doesn't favour this type of system. If I occupy 5 channels in the attacking phase, why force the play to go through a specific player (keeping in mind I don't have Pirlo or Xavi).

    I have a question, @Ö-zil to the Arsenal!: All your starters in Arsenal have very high attribute for TEAMWORK. How important is it, in your opinion? Is it revelant just for pressing, or does it also facilitate possession and team play in the attack? How important is it for you? I find it hard to find complete players with teamwork higher than 14 without sacrificing something otherwise very important.

    Cheers :thup:

    I have got myself down to this. Why the 4-1-3-2, well, when they start their build up the number 6 drops between the central defenders, whilst the 8 and the wingers sit in front of him in a line of 3 mids. Also the first pressing phase sees the 8 closing down with the attackers, not always though, but he will try to press the opponents defensive midfielder, if it's a solo guy. My only difficulty is with the wingers really. I find that the inverted wingers or wide playmakers, they don't come inside as much as i wanted, during the build phase i mean. For example, seeing a Flamengo game, imagine the ball is going for a throw in on the right, we see the team compact very close to the ball, and the left winger shows up almost on right aswell, sitting narrow with the rest of the team, i tried using a mezzala,but he sits to much in the middle even with the team playing max wide

    I wouldn’t dare question a FM legend like O-zil, but the JJ I know from years and years here in Portugal deploys a structured rigid system. The same principles as he mentioned apply. The thing is, off the ball he demands very specific positioning, extremely disciplined, and on the ball his game principles (team instructions) derive from that defensive discipline altogether). I think that can be achieved by choosing the correct roles. He did enjoy playmakers, but his attacking play is anything but slow and controlled. Doesn’t shy away from playing out of the back and using shorter passing, but he is one to demand maximum intensity (think Klopp or Simeone) in his offensive approach. I would personally start with more generic roles that can offer you the shape (4-4-2 or 4-1-3-2) in defence and then mound that so that you can both:

    1) Fight for possession as high and aggressively as possible;

    2) Hold a compact and structured shape in defence;

    3) Throw bodies forward like mad dogs, with runners on both flanks (can perfectly well be one wingback and a winger), a runner on the middle, supporting movement and hold up up front, and presence in the area for cutbacks and one/twos.

    So O-sim already laid all the match engine relevant considerations, let’s get to work people!

    Hi people...

    It's my turn to propose an adaptation in the new tactical system.
    In the team instructions, the only additional instruction is the line of engagment much higher (which for me seemed logical). I kept the same roles, I just added the individual AT instructions to the supports. Will that be enough to keep the system efficient? I do not know. we have to test. ( forgot to mention. I'm on FM19)

    Your GK could also be a Sweeper on support for added compactness, mentality increase and more risky passing

    The plan was to recreate Klopp's tactic's at Dortmund, Rangnick at Leipzig and Nagelsmann at Hoffemheim/Leipzig but I scrapped I scrapped Nagelsmann and just went for Klopp and Rangnick.  I also have a tactic that's similar to what Heynckes used at Bayern when he played away at Barcelona, but it's not that faithful of an adaptation of it.

    Keep us updated as you go along, I'd love to see what gems you uncover because the German lower leagues are a treasure trove of good players.

    Could you, by chance, share the Heynckes setup here? It would be quite enriching to the overall theme, I suspect!

    cheers
