  1. Hi all,

I'm playing FM24, as Inter Miami (never managed Messi and wanted to do it before he retires).  As per the title, most of my attacks are coming through the wings, and I'm trying to understand why?

These are my attack channels from a recent game:

    image.png.5d00545c54ed11c18d1138b266076cbb.png

As you can see only 6% of my attacks are through the centre.

(BTW - I don't know how to get this graphic after a game)

Its so extreme that my Ass Man regularly recommends Wing Play training and the board has taken to complementing the effectivity of our Wing Play.

This is my setup and typical starting lineup:

    image.thumb.png.99e76248628934a2a8e56c6c4728daeb.png

I don't mind per-se, that my attacks are coming on the wings - the team is doing well, winning games, and Messi is unsurprisingly my leading scorer.

So I don't particularly need a full critique of my formation - but feel free to do so if you have interesting pointers as I'm always keen to learn.

There are some wasted crosses, as Messi obv isn't much in the air ... but with low crosses I get a lot of fizzers that my guys get on the end of for a tap in.

But as mentioned, the main question here is to understand why I attack the way I do ...

    My thoughts are:

    1. my wingbacks are two of my better players, with dynamic roles, and so find space and therefore opportunities

    2. I distribute to the wingbacks (but also centre backs)

    3. I don't have a playmaker in the centre of the pitch attracting the ball

What do you think of these reasons?  Can you suggest other reasons?

I really just want to learn and improve my tactical understanding ...

    Cheers.

  2. Hi - resurrecting this thread with a similar problem.

Playing FM22 with Arsenal. Gabriel and Ben White developed a partnership, including the green line.  But then after a few weeks the line disappeared?!?

Both of them have "Feels he has a good partnership at the back with ...." in information/happiness/positives, but the line is not there ...

Other green partnership lines are present, ie Saka/Tomiyasu on the right ...

I tried flicking in and out of the analysis tab and other screens.  No luck.

The Gabriel/White line disappeared about a month ago and no reappearance ... anybody have any insights?

A graphics card is effectively a separate processor purely for the graphics, so will enable better graphics rendering and at higher resolutions than integrated graphics - there are some games where a dedicated graphics card is effectively mandatory as most integrated GPU's won't be strong enough to run them (FM is not one of these games).

    Cheers @kevhamster

The integrated Iris XS graphics is strong, so yeah should be fine for medium to high settings, but at 1080p which is the resolution most of the displays are set to for this CPU - I imagine it'll probably be a little bit jerkier at UHD (not sure if you're referring to 1440p or 4K there - if it's 4K the integrated graphics will probably find it a bit harder to cope).  However, given I don't have specific experience of how these chips cope at 1440p and 4K I'm not 100% sure how big of an effect it'll be.

But, the Iris XE is considerably stronger than the old Intel UHD integrated graphics options, so if you consider the existing experience to be acceptable at UHD resolutions, then I'd say you'll find it a lot smoother with the Iris XE integrated graphics.

With the 1650Ti Max Q, you'll be getting an easy 60fps at max graphics settings at 1080p resolution - of that, I'm absolutely certain.

    Thanks @kevhamster.

Yes, the UHD I'm referring to is 4k on both old system and new option.  And yes old system is with the old Intel UHD graphics.  So good to know the Iris XE is much better.

Other than the smoothness, is there any other advantage to having a graphics card?  Ie sharper rendering, image, etc?

  5. Hi guys,

I'm going to get a new laptop and have decided I want to get either a Razer Book 13 or a Razer Blade Stealth 13 - I've found a shop in Singapore where I live with 2020 models (but still new in box) of both available at a big discount.

    Both have:

    - Intel Core i7-1165G7 Quad core CPU

    - 16 MB RAM

    - 512 GB SSD

The main differences (apart from colour of the unit) is in the graphics:

    - the Book 13 has UHD display with an integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics processor

    vs

    - Stealth 13 has HD display with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max Q graphics card.

FM is the only game I play (and I play extended highlights matches in 3D as I'm a details person).  Otherwise its just working in google suite and watching netflix (which is much nicer in UHD).

I currently have a Dell XPS 13 with UHD, so have become very accustomed to the high quality image and not too keen to give that up.

But, I've never actually played the game on a computer with a dedicated graphics card, so have nothing to compare to.  Always played with graphics at "Low".  It doesn't lag too often and seems ok.

So, my question is, will the 3D match experience with a dedicated graphics card in the Stealth be that much better than with just integrated graphics in the Book to justify giving up the UHD display? Obviously subjective, but asking for opinions nonetheless ...

I've read a bunch of posts through this topic and on other forums, and I'm leaning towards the Book.  A recent post from @kevhamster seemed to endorse this leaning:

"and the integrated graphics capability is good enough to manage medium to high settings on the 3D match graphics"

Given the specs and integrated graphics would you say the above statement could apply to the Book?  @kevhamsteror anybody else, would be grateful for thoughts ...

    ------------

Ok, subsequent to above I just played a match in FM22 and realised that the game play is a lot jerkier than I had really realised ... (funny how its not a problem until you think about it)

The Dell XPS I have now runs hot all the time and I'm guessing thats part of the problem.  The Razers seem to have better reviews for cooling (within the limits of a small unit).

Will the improved CPU 2.8ghz compared to what I have now 1.5ghz help?

Or do I really need the graphics card?  How does a graphics card help?  Does it smooth out the experience?  Is the rendering of the action more detailed?  (as noted have nothing to compare to!)

    Thanks!

  6. Hi TimD - thanks for making this skin ... a couple of questions:

    1. how do you get the stadium backgrounds?  I downloaded Mini Stadiums pack https://www.fmscout.com/a-mini-stadiums-superpack-fm21.html ... but it doesn't show up.

    2. without the stadiums I have a super light background and the mid-range player attributes which are in yellow become hard to read against the background

    Any advice appreciated.  Thanks.

  7. Hi,

I've started an MLS save and I understand that TAM is used to buy down an additional DP to a senior contract.  But does anybody know how to use targeted allocation money (TAM) in MLS?

I searched for and read posts here and on other forums.  The suggestions are:

    1. you get the option to use when you attempt to sign an extra DP

    2. it gets use automatically when you sign

But neither of these options have worked for me.  When I try to sign a new DP, the signing gets blocked because I already have 2 DPs and 1 young DP.  I don't get the option to use my TAM and it does get subtracted automatically.

And yes, I have watched the videos by Uncle Sam, but his reference is brief and he suggests method 1 as above.  But as noted, I don't get the option, even though I have $2.7m in TAM.

    Any advice much appreciated!

  8. Hi,

I'm playing with Rennes in my first season and every week my assistant would advise that I switch my two central defenders Kehrer and Gnagnon, as Kehrer prefers to play on the right hand side of the central pair.  I ignored it because (1) Kehrer is better in the covering role and could cover for Kurzawa in a more attacking role, and (2) Kehrer is either footed and so I thought would be better equiped to handle balls coming in from the left of the pitch.  By mid season, I changed my assistant and the new assistant gave the same advice, so I decided to switch.  I put Kehrer on the right of the pair, still with a covering role, and Gnagnon on the left of the pair, still with a stopper role.  My defense was performing quite well, but I wanted to improve, and thought this might be the key.

The first game I played with the changes was away to PSG, hardest game of the season and a big mistake!  I lost 1-5!  I'd already played them three times this season with results 0-1; 0-1; 2-2.  So to be on the end of a battering was a real surprise.  I kept the save, but decided to go back and play the game again to figure out what I'd done wrong.  I played the game three more times, trying different mentalities, balanced and cautious, using counter-attacking, and trying out man marking.  I still lost 0-3; 1-4; 0-4.  Neymar and Mbappe were cutting through my team like I hadn't experienced.  (For context I'm otherwise doing quite well, 3rd in the league and my only loss against PSG as above).

Then I realised it must be the switch in central defenders.  So I reverted to the previous roles (as per attached image) and suddenly results changed dramatically.  I played the game another three times: 1-1; 0-1; and 3-3.

    So, my observations and questions:

    - changing side of a pairing can seriously disrupt the the team

    - perhaps the side preference of the player doesn't affect their ability to perform the role ... does anybody else have insight on this issue?

    - is their any way to train your players to prefer another side, or central positioning?

    Cheers!

  9. @gunner86 I thought I'd give you the update ... you were spot on!

I finally got around to playing again after life got in the way ... very shortly after I started up, my B team had the draw for promotion to segunda, and fixtures which followed from there.  The B team played their final league game on 12 May, but the first playoff only on 12 Jun.  The final playoff game was on 20 Jun and my squad went on end of season break the next day.

It would have been nice to have the option to send my first team on break, as they basically waited around for three weeks after the cup final.

I got to preseason, but unfortunately not option for a training camp ... seems I'm not the only one.

  10. Hi - as per title ... I'm playing as Real Sociedad in FM19 and having got to the end of my season, the training calendar says that the squad end of season break is two days away, with rest scheduled until then.  When I get to that date, the break hasn't started, but more rest has been scheduled.  Two weeks passed with the squad on rest, and the end of season break always two or three days away. Then, even though I've setup staff responsibilities for me to run training, suddenly my team has a full week of training scheduled in June.  I'm concerned that my players won't be rested at the beginning of the new season and will become jaded.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there a way to force the squad on the end of season break?
