Does it have to be a completely black and white issue? If so they should have boycotted the whole thing.

If we accept that they wanted to show a symbol while continuing to compete, then it's clear that there's a line to be drawn somewhere. For them the line is drawn at the point where it affects on field performance, which seems fair enough to me. Otherwise you've just gone full circle, and are effectively saying they need to boycott it.

I do think teams should have boycotted if they genuinely wanted to bring about change.

I totally understand drawing a line somewhere and it is logical but it's disappointing that any risk to a football match result is more important than showing a small symbol to support inclusion. I really do think that if the captains of all the 7 teams did it anyway, FIFA would have caved so it probably would not have affected on field performance.

It's stupid to turn on the teams/captains over this - if you're doing so you're doing exactly what FIFA want you to do.

The scumbags here are the Qatari government and FIFA. The players are clear in what they want to do, but are being put in a crap position by those two.

I don't think it needs to be only one of them that have done things wrong.

FIFA shouldn't have tried to stop them from wearing the armbands but also the teams should not have backtracked at the first sign of more substantial consequences. The whole point of a protest is to have courage and do the difficult thing in spite of the consequences. If anything, doing it after the threat of "sporting sanctions" would make the action so much more significant.

I've tried this setup and working well for me.

Here we in in a defensive phase situation with the ball central. Bruno and Rashford are the wide players.772115666_2021-12-0717_13_43-FootballManager2022.thumb.png.4c8f698c5be466d47f22243b3bb1dc7e.png

And an example in defensive phase with ball in wide area.

Here is an attacking example. Greenwood came short, played to Fred and Fred played a ball over the top to Martial. Amad and Rashford the wide players here and very narrow.

How do you ensure only your team's player names are turned on?

  4. Welcome back Cleon!

I'd say the biggest thing I struggle with is actually seeing what's going on/wrong on the pitch e.g. I can watch a game for 45 minutes and then someone else points out "Number 20 seems to be following number 6 everywhere" and then it seems so obvious that I can't believe I missed it.

Like, what do you focus on when the game is happening? The ball? Players near the ball? Players further away?

I keep following the ball and them I've got no idea how it ended up in the back of my goal or who should have prevented it and why they didn't 🤣

This preset and the vertical tiki taka presets are very strong but they aren't OP because they have some flaws which are easily remedied.

I've been using the vertical tiki taka 5-2-1-2 WB with Ajax (recommended by Assistant Manager for my team) and I'm struggling to score goals. I either draw, lose (more often than not without scoring) or win 1-0 so would be keen to know what changes you think will help :)

Given what you're asking for, you should just choose the 'control possession' tactical style and then the 433 shape.  It'll get you started with relatively few team instructions and a set of potential roles that are presumably reasonably balanced

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried just that before asking for help on here.

After playing 6 games, I've lost 4, drawn 1 and won 1 and it did not feel like we were controlling the game, even against weaker sides.

I'm Man Utd and am 10th in the league after 15 matches.

There is six trillion ways you could create a 433.

why not create something simple, with very few team instructions (0-5) and using guides available on this forum. Watch what happens, see if you like what you see and what issues you can see. Slowly tweak from there.

I've tried a few dozen different systems and watched games, like you suggested, and changed stuff based on what makes sense or what I want to see but end up getting frustrated as things don't have the impact I expect them to and I've spent tens of hours doing that and reading threads.

I'm kind of looking for a baseline set of roles that work together and produce good results so I can then make changes, from there.

  8. Hi, I've recently bought FM21 and am struggling to get, what feels like, a cohesive set of roles and duties to play a controlling 4-3-3 system.

Can you suggest a set of roles and duties, for 4-3-3 DM Wide, that forms a basis for my team to control games and create chances?

Also, if possible, I'd also like to have a backup system for tough games that suit a more counter-attacking style :)

    Thanks!

None. Because (as you yourself noted) there isn't the Roam TI anymore. Just PI. So if you want a specific player to roam, you need to instruct him via his PIs (provided it's available for that role).

I know that in FM19 this is the case but I'm asking about previous versions. So when I used the 'Roam From Positions' TI in FM18, I assume that only certain positions would have been told to roam because asking DC's to roam doesn't seem like the best idea.

Hello, everybody. Please excuse the lack of updates on this. I am actually still playing - and loving - this save, albeit with very little time to contribute to the thread.

Depending on people's interest in an FM18 tactical update, I could potentially do another update on a set of particularly enjoyable 4-3-3s I've been using however they won't be applicable to FM2019 players as I understand Overload has been removed from the game.

Out of interest - has anyone checked out the Benfica academy in the new game? I'd be interested to see if they've maintained the talent & potential.

I'm still on FM18 and would definitely be interested in the tactics you're currently using!

Not one of the bullet points is actually helpful though

For each one you could replace it with the exact opposite and it would be just as (in) valid... Because there is zero reasoning. It also assumes that its generally helpful to solely consider roles and duties without any thought to how you want the whole tactic to play.

    ----

You know, you just like to stir

I think you're being really harsh. It's not a complete guide on 4-2-3-1's or tactics (It's not meant to be) but to say it's 'nonsense', 'not helpful', 'invalid' is just wrong. It may not be helpful to you but it definitely is to me and other people looking to get a basic, balanced tactic working.

  12. *snip*

If you wish to play with the advanced wide-man coming infield, then the following combinations will be useful:

    • Full Back (Attack)/Wing Back (Support/Attack) & Inside Forward/Advanced Playmaker (Support/Attack)
    • Complete Wing Back (Attack) & Inside Forward/Advanced Playmaker (Support)

The first combination will be for the full back to advance from deep into space vacated by the IF/AP. If you are playing a wing back, you may have much better movement and defensive cover by ensuring the WB & IF/AP have opposite duties (Support-Attack or Attack-Support). If the IF or AP has a support duty, they will tend to tuck inside earlier on, in a deeper position, so it is important the FB/WB offers an outlet earlier on in the move. The second combination enhances the importance of this, as the CWB will need cover from midfield & the man in front to provide tracking back, should he be caught out of position. The CWB will tend to get into the final third early, and an angled reverse ball into the path of an IF/AP(S) can allow him the space to make more penetrating runs. If your IF is on an Attack duty he will tend to be playing more as a goalscorer, so wide support is generally required from the full back, although this burden can be eased by a centre-forward or playmaker drifting wide to offer an outlet.

    *snip*

    Hey llama3,

With regards to the wide player option bolded above, won't playing a Wing-Back on Support and Inside-Forward on Attack cause you to be really open on the flanks since both of those players get forward often?
