Teams at home are more attacking so it may be a tactical problem. If you commit too many players forward the opposition is more likely to use the space

nothing to do with tactics, its an entire shift in everything that players do, they look like they are suddenly playing wearing concrete boots and have never met each other let alone practiced in a team with each other before

  2. Yeah, the difference is insane. The away team doesn't even look like they are trying, they get the ball and just stand there with it until they lose it, nobody makes any movement. "Pressing" is just walking vaguely near the guy on the ball then letting them do whatever they want with it. It's at the point where I'm way more confident about a home game against city than an away game against fulham

  3. Let me start by saying it is not tactics. Every game in every competition, regardless of the quality of the two teams, the away team always exhibits certain behaviours, such as

    • Slow in everything they do, e.g. pass receiver stops for 2 seconds before deciding what to do
    • Never actually pressing properly - slowly walk up to the ball carrier and stand about 2 feet infront of them, not actively trying to win the ball
    • Not actually trying to win headers, sometimes actively moving away from where the ball is heading
    • Players rarely making off the ball runs

Just watched the highlights of an AI controlled Man City game where they had 1 shot on target away to Newcastle, and lost obviously, saw the exact behaviours mentioned above.

I notice it in my own games as well, it's at the point where I'd rather play Liverpool or City at home than play relegation sides away from home. I get that home teams have a statistical advantage, but I don't think the best teams in the league should look like a minnow in every away game against bottom half sides.

  4. I'm in quite a similar situation as you: almost the exact same setup, defensively sound but was struggling with penetration. One thing that actually helped me was changing the mentality from Positive to Balanced. It allowed my players to drop back a few yards when we are on the ball, without having to alter their roles, duties, or any of my team instructions. One reason why I wasn't scoring was because my IF(a) took up positions that made him marked out of the game. Adding a stay wider instruction coupled with the Balanced mentality made that position able to actually have some room to breathe.

In terms of roles the only other differences between mine and yours is that I have DM(D) instead of halfback, WB(A) on the right, Mez(s) as my MCR and AF up front. The dm, wingback and striker roles are just what suit how I'm playing so I wouldn't necessarily suggest copying, but I think a mezzala could help you more than a BBM. Also do at least experiment swapping the DLP for AP, if you think it hinders you defensively more than it benefits you offensively you can always change back, but you never know the outcome until you try it

    • Build out from the back if possible while playing a more direct style
    • Be more progressive in possession and look to play forward rather than pass it round the middle of the pitch

From these it sounds like maybe you are focused too much on trying to do this, I know I've fallen for that trap, I was so sick of seeing my entire attack and midfield surrounding the opposition box with a wall of 10 defenders stopping them, so wanted a more progressive style, but focusing too hard on that just made my team take too many risks and it was sloppy. I'm finding the less instructions the better sometimes, in fact my only In Possession instruction is play out of defence

  5. Like in image shown, it doesn't say what role he would have taken. This isn't a bug or anything, but when I'm overhauling a team's entire staff and get several of these, I can't remember what role each of them agreed to because it isn't always obvious, e.g. a person described as a Coach may have been taking an U23 Assistant Manager role.

Adding this would mean you immediately know which role you have to recruit for again, rather than going through the staff lists for First Team/U23/U18 to see which one isn't filled

  6. So for example you would highlight a bunch of players, click the Prioritise Assignment button which would move them all to the top of the priority list, whereas currently you can only do it with one player.

This is useful in a situation such as where it is getting close to the January transfer window, so you want to scout players who you will be able to sign on a pre-contract. Obviously, I would want all of these to be scouted before any existing assignments.

Just would be another of those QOL features that you guys have been so good at adding in the last 2 years!

When there's a free demo allowing you to play for half a season, much more than 2 hours so to say, that doesn't sound like "simple" move.

Considering last year the match engine was so different during the demo compared to how it is now, yes it is a simple move. If it's good enough in the demo then maybe I'll have no need to, but either way I'm still going to do it

Not a single player currently has dribbling, finishing or heading 20.

I mean, Messi has 20 dribbling and finishing. And passing. And technique. And agility. And balance. And decisions. And determination. And flair. And vision

You get my point. There are many with 20, but that's supposed to be pretty much perfection. Ramos has 20 heading, Neymar and Hazard have 20 dribbling, Quaresma has 20 crossing, Ederson has 20 kicking

A bunch of defenders like Ramos, Chiellini, Zabaleta, Wan-Bissaka all have at least 18 tackling so your information is wrong anyway.

  9. Create a league full of players who are all 20 in attacking attributes and all 1 in defensive attributes, then see if you only get 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines. If you don't, then that proves your limitation theory wrong.

Which changes do you make with the conceded goals types info??

Crosses = Hit early crosses + players with higher % Headers won / Cross %
    Long balls = ?
    Through balls = ?

    Short pass = ?
Square balls = Work ball into box ?
Corners = Play for set Pieces ?
Free kicks = Play for set Pieces ?

You don't have to change your tactics based on this information, it might just give you an idea. Typically I use that information to see where they are most dangerous attacking and see if I can indentify any weakness in my squad that would allow them to exploit that. But I might only make a change once every 5 games or so because of it and those changes might be very small things

  11. Yes by default those things happen to an extent, that's why one of the options is "Never" for things like marking (or at least that's what it was on FM18), so you want to mark them less than normal

Some examples of when you'd want to use them is a tall but slow target man, you'd mark them constantly because there isn't much risk of them running in behind your defence. Someone with good long shots you may want to close down as soon as they get the ball because once they receive it, the biggest risk to your goal is their shot. Weaker foot would be specifically for players who for example only ever run down the wing to cross it, if they're not good on their weak foot you don't have to worry about them cutting in and using the other foot.

But yeah it's not actually necessary to ever use them, because all of the marking/closing down/show onto weak foot is done to an extent normally, you can just use OIs if there is a specific player you want to do them more/less to. It's important to not overuse them too because for example showing a winger onto their weak foot does leave you quite vulnerable to an underlap where they can just play a pass with their weak foot, because you're leaving them space to do so

  12. Dude you need to accept that the match engine does not take into account whether you are AI or human. If you use editors you can see that managers have hidden attributes which sum up their style of play, like how direct they are, what tempo they use etc, because the game then creates their tactics based on that. So the match engine uses the same information for both human players and AI players, and cannot tell the difference

If smaller teams tend to do better against you then you're not setting up correctly against them, simple as

  13. High line is possible to play if you get it right in terms of tactics and personnel. I play a high line press and have conceded 12 goals in 33 games in the premier league.

Yes, 1-on-1s are still broken, but for now try and plan around it. Play a way that doesn't create 1-on-1 opportunities. You shouldn't have to do that, but if they aren't working then you don't really have much choice

good tactics dont have to feature tons of instructions. your team and tactics must just be very well balanced and suit a balanced mentality.

Hundreds of pages of this forum show plenty of people find the game plenty hard though.

But I can literally pick any tactic and the opposition still aren't trying to play, that's what I mean. I'm deliberately messing up my tactics yet nothing is changing.

  15. It's a bit strange but my problem seems to be that the game is far too easy. The other team let my players run straight past them and don't seem to ever actually press, wingers end up free in so much space, and when the other team get the ball they just stand there with it until either I tackle them and counter, or they just punt it up the pitch and give it back to me

I thought I just somehow created an OP tactic but it's nothing special, just a pretty regular wide 433. But I've actually removed all my player instructions, made my team stop pressing so highly and things like this just to try and get the other team to actually play, yet they don't do anything!! Like as I type this I'm in a game against Granada (I am Real Hispalis) and first half winning 3-0 and the other team had 1 shot 0 on target. Last game was AWAY TO ATLETICO and I was 2-0 up in about 20 mins, changed to Cautious just to try and invite them to attack me, they managed to actually get some shots away by the end of the game but wasn't threatening much.

Why is this happening?!?! It's not the tactic because I even switched it to a 4411 and 4231 just to see if somehow the tactic was broken even though all the instructions were removed. It's not my management because I'm literally just sending players out and don't even need to study the other team. It's not my players because Real Hispalis have quite an average squad really. I was managing Arsenal before on another save and the same thing was happening, it was so so easy to win every game and I don't want this, I want a challenge and I'm not getting one, I really don't understand

EDIT: as a test, I set a new tactic 4231 with ZERO team instructions and ZERO player instructions, on Balanced mentality. I also changed player roles, like I was using winger before so I changed to inside forward. Was using CM(A) and BBM so changed to BWM and DLP. Just changing everything possible so I know it's not tactic related in any way. Game was away to Bilbao. Half time? Winning 3-0 and other team has had no shots on target, still not marking, still not pressing, still not going forward when they get the ball. I don't understand. Changed to 5212 for the second half of that Bilbao game just for something random, still no instructions whatsoever, random roles, they only manage one shot on target in the whole game and it ended 4-0
