  1. Comfortably beating Bournemouth 5-1, the referee decides to add 4 minutes of injury time. Poor Bournemouth get an injury after 3 and the ref decides we need to play until 96.

Seems unrealistic, although a small thing.

Although I like the thoughts behind your idea, I assume we aren't able to add further sections to the attribute distribution. Skinning is basically all about graphical adjustments and your idea sounds more like some deeper adjustments to the mechanics of Football Manager. Therefore we are limited to the four attribute sections for now.

I suspected this would be so. Do you think it's possible to provide numerical attributes for players at your own club, but star attributes for the rest of the players?

I love the added challenge to scouting but I'd like a bit more of an accurate view of my own players.

  3. I think the way the game presents the "hidden" attributes of Consistency, Big Matches, and Injury Proneness can be improved greatly without much alteration to how they work beneath the screen.

    • The Consistency, Injury Proneness, and Big Match information you are currently provided is derived from your coach/scouts ability to assess the player's hidden attribute.
    • It should be based soley on your coach/scout's experience with the player.
    • A player currently might be scouted as poor in big matches (because that's his hidden attribute), whilst performing well in the big matches the scout viewed
    • I'd propose that, if a scout watches a player put in consistent 7.1 performances for the duration of the scouting report, that scout should be telling your that he looks consistent, regardless of his hidden attributes
    • This results in the user making his own assessment about his players, relying more on feedback rather than being gifted the information by the assistants. I.e. You look at a player's injury record and decide if they're injury prone, not because your scout has snuck a peak at his "6 injury proneness" and told you,

This could flesh out youth development:

    • Consistency can be roughly tracked through training performance/development/youth level performance
    • Big matches/pressure can be roughly tracked through important youth games/training performance with first team/initial performances for first team

    So:

    • Add another criticise performance dialog option, "you've been performing up and down recently, try to be more consistent". If it applies accurately to the player's recent performances, and you use it correctly on enough occasions, you should have a chance to improve the player's consistency
    • Add the option to send the player to therapy to manage how they deal with pressure and big matches. This could take some training workload to provide some tradeoff so it doesn't get abused.

I think there's a lot of scope for this type of improvement, and I'd like to see player personalities dealt with in a similar manner, eventually, although that would be a much longer post.

  4. Processing

I have some real issues with the processing system and some really small improvements would save me (and possibly others) a vast amount of time.

    • Continue game timeout is broken and has been for many, many editions. I like to tab out and multitask instead of staring at the screen for a couple of minutes whilst it processes, clicking the mouse in another program stops the game.
    • Holidaying is a poor replacement since it skips decisions. Also unintuitive to use between every game
    • Please create a new button, It should simply simulate until the next fixture or required action item
    • An optional notification noise when processing halts (I might want to tab in, click an obvious option, then resume processing with minimal time wasted)
    • Perhaps you could add several tickboxes under the processing ui box, allowing players to customize which inbox items they want to trigger a processing halt (players have different inbox priorities at different times in the season)
    • If you wanted to go another level you could allow players to create presets determining what items should trigger a processing halt, or even how to deal with certain inbox items automatically.
    • Perhaps during the summer window you want a processing halt as soon as your weekly scouting report comes in, but not during the season.
    • You could then enable players to schedule their processing requirements based on the date, automating the process.

For me, at least, this would likely double the games I get through with no reduction in my engagement with the actual features of the game, like tactics or training. In fact I'd likely delve deeper with more time to spare. Moreover, I can only imagine that a large amount of the playerbase are just as ADHD as I, or play the game whilst multitasking various productive/unproductive activities. This improvement would streamline the game for this proportion.

Perhaps I'm naive but I can't even imagine this being difficult to code and I might just try myself.

    Attribute customization

I found this excellent skin by sebastian_starttrbts which replaces numerical player attributes with a star, coloured to represent the attribute's category rating (excellent/good/average/bad).

It feels so natural that it belongs in the game as an option for experienced players who want an added challenge. We have something of the sort already with attribute masking. Plus, it goes hand in hand with the recent Data hub addition by forcing you to consider alternative assessment criteria to judge players.

Some simple changes would allow players to:

    • Choose numeric attributes or group based attributes
    • Allow players to select additional/fewer attribute categories (excellent/great/good/average/bad)
    • Allow players to select different attribute display for players they are coaching compared to players outside the club.

I'd probably use star ratings for scouted players to give an added challenge (and arguably realism), whilst letting myself see the numerical attributes of the players I'm coaching every day.

Edit: I should probably clarify that I am aware of other people bringing up issues with continue game timeout, but surveying a recent thread left me with the impression that I'd be better offering a tangible solution as a seperate request.
