Romero got a very huge attributes upgrade. Did you notice some other player (in Italy) that improved a lot with this update?

Acerbi finally got his long overdue boost to his Natural Fitness, Pavoletti now pretty much the master of accurate headers, Zaniolo have improved very nicely overall and a much more combative presence in the midfield, Quagliarella now is a Born Leader (20 Determination and Leadership) as well as 3 points boost to Decisions (which should means his CA has been bumped up quite alot)

...and Lykogiannis got a whooping 10 points boost to his Crossing (it was only a diabolical 3 before, lol).

By the way, at long last they've corrected Koulibaly's height

But I'm an American manager at a small Italian club and we suddenly now have American youth players, so there must be a connection, no? Thankfully they all have EU second nationalities so far.

True, but it's our own nationality (the Manager) that occasionally do have an influence to the youth intakes' nationalities, not the HOYD. Usually my HOYD are either English, Dutch, German or Brazilian yet I never seemed to get any youth players of those nationalities coming into the club unless there's an affiliated club from those nations... While on the other hand as I'm always an Indonesian manager, somehow my Portuguese, Germany, Italian, etc. side sometimes had a few of quality Indonesian players from the academy with potentials to play in decent European clubs, which is ludicrous to be perfectly honest :D

  3. By the way @Weston, what other leagues did you load for your current save? If you included Brazil then Luiz Fernando Moraes could be a decent alternative who can pretty much be an extra hand of decent coach for your youth teams as well. He's usually stay unemployed since the start of the game and no clubs ever seem to bother to hire him in my saves. Sometimes his name won't show up in the Staff Search screen for some reason, so you should manually search his name.

Any opinion on "perfectionist" as a personality for the HOYD? Also, has any of the above info changed for FM19? My HOYD is nearing the end of his contract and I'm wondering if I should replace him, and if so, with whom. Here is one candidate I'm considering:

With the Perfectionist personality basically he's an ambitious and professional individual  but short tempered too, i.e. low tolerance when things didn't go their way.

if you don't try it, how can you know if it's good or bad ?

I don't stick with it, I play when and if I have time ... I understand that it's just a game and we, as players, will always be able to exploit the game engine one way or another ... I do not understand all the praise for the game being a real football simulator ... or maybe the people praising tried football only on PC games and on TV.

PS: I think I started playing this game in 2004 or 2005, I can't remember exactly but I'm sure it was those years, I see my account here was made in 2007 so I'm not messing up too much for sure.

The game's engine has never been perfect at any point of its iterations for sure, but has it ever occurred to you that pretty much no one else here have it as extreme as you made it out in your earlier posts?

    Realistic game ... yeah right.

this is in first season and I used my first squad that is dominating in serie a and UCL ... but when AI decides that you must lose then you will lose no matter what and in whaever manner.

for me the game has the same ******** crap engine since 2006, absolutely no change, always the AI scores on first shot, only the AI can win games having a single shot all game, I always hit the post at least 6-7 times a game ... yeah, indeed realistic game ... simulator they say.

what the hell is this game simulating ? the total imbecility of a programmer that prolly didn't graduate highschool?

    int-juv.jpg

You find the game's engine has been consistently crap and unrealistic since 2006 (or was it since FM08 like in your earlier post?) yet you still stick with it up to this year's edition? That's pretty damn impressive.

also I noted that Ronaldo scored 13 goals in first 8 games and 12 goals were head shots and 1 was from penalty. At the end of first half of the season over 90% of my goals are head shots ... and they say FM19 is realistic or a football simulator ... yeah sure.

Weird. My striking partner for Sampdoria barely ever scores from headers, perhaps only about 3-4 headed goals each per season. And they both scored a lot of goals.

The one thing of note that feels quite off about the match engine this year for me instead is how easy it seems to score from long range shots, compared to the previous editions.

Which roles do you use for the CAM and the 2 ST?

For the strikers I used a Pressing Forward and a Deep Lying Forward. Most of the times, both are set on Attack duty.

For the central attacking midfielder, honestly I'm still not entirely convinced with their individual performances in general within the tactical set up; but I've found that simply using an Attacking Midfielder (Support) works best compared to the others in at least keep the gears running for the whole team, and consequently it seemed to improves the performances of the strikers and the two midfielders right behind him.

Is someone of you using the 4312 or the 41212 narrow?

I do. I'm currently managing Sampdoria, where the squad was already limited in options for natural wingers so they're a natural fit for those formations. Just recently overwrote and restarting the career all over again as I'm using the expanded leagues database this time, but results were pretty great in the previous save, consistently securing top half places in the league. As expected, the defensive side of our game was pretty suspect and we're leaking a lot of goals originated from the flanks, but I'm yet to experiencing what the other players in this forum seemed to be struggling with in scoring goals, as Defrel (loaned player in the first season,) Inglese (joined after the first season) and the seemingly evergreen Quagliarella constantly banging them in pretty comfortably in almost every matches.

I've noticed Frankfurt seem to have some class players and are a good team. I had no idea they were that good

Indeed, the team is stacked with decent enough players to try out different kinds of tactical set up from the go. There are many teams with better overall potential levels of players, really; but there's not too much disparity between the first team players to the rest of the squad so the depth should be more than adequate to reach even higher than the level being expected from the team initially.

Good team to pick if you enjoy being the surprise package to challenge the upper tier of the league and in Europe. Should be pretty cool if you can replicate their 100% win rate in the Europa League's group stage this season

  11. This is why I never sign the youth intakes with terrible personalities or abysmal Determination, unless their potential is huge.

In my opinion, the higher a player's Determination value is, then what should happen is the less likely they're to be dragged down by the squad's average. I can't imagine if someone like Cristiano Ronaldo simply being stuck in a team full of wimps will somehow starting to slack off himself. Hell, he's more likely to either get seriously pissed off by the rest of the team's attitude then disrupting the squad atmosphere, expecting the manager to be more demanding to his players or when he finally got fed up with it all, he'll hand transfer request so he can play somewhere else with more determined teammates.

It's the reason I'm not enjoying Serie A saves as much as I did, I mean, Inter are the club I support IRL and always have a go with them, but when it will happen IRL, it's going to be a big task and it's going to be one hell of a team that finally stops Juve's streak, whereas in FM, there's hardly any sense of achievement in doing it, because they just implode 2-3 seasons into the game. Just checked in FM18 and they never got past the 90 pts mark in 6 in-game seasons, whilst I won the league twice with the lowest points tally ever since it went to being a 20-team league, 82 and 83 pts. Juventus finished on 78 and 76. Something is massively flawed in Juventus and it's been this way in the last three editions.

Their transfers have been pretty much spot on IRL for a couple of years, probably some of the best amongst the top clubs in Europa, but that simply doesn't reflect in-game.

Yeah, looks like quite a few had reported the AI Juventus doing some pretty baffling transfers. I had an earlier Portuguese club career this FM where they just sell their better players and bought a bunch of middling names, many of whom are either then got transfer-listed right away come the next transfer window or simply left unregistered for the season :idiot:

Dunno where the cause of the issue lies though. Can't be their scouting/transfer team, as they're already great from the start in game at least for visible attribute-wise.

This absolute beauty has just arrived on regen day... The coach report already says that he's well suited to Serie A football.

Time to build my team around him.

Looking nice indeed! BUT he got Fickle personality with decent value for Leadership, and not to mention a Team Leader too. Let's hope he won't be a bad influence over the rest of your youth players :D

Got the game yesterday and started my traditional Inter career that I do every year, went through pre-season and played the first game of the season.Still can't believe there's no way to defend against long ball over the defence, and how Hallfredson hit inch-perfect passes every time, that would make even Scholes or Hagi jealous. Corners seem OP as hell and the lone striker is useless.

In terms of tactics, went with a 4-2-3-1, pretty much what Spaletti uses IRL and made no transfers during the first transfer window. Juventus sold Rugani and replaced him with Victor Ruiz :idiot:, and also signed Mercado. Oh, and Allegri went to Real and was replaced by Conte. Will keep updating as I progress trough the game.

Currently starting a Sampdoria save and exactly this happened as well. At least they're not stupid enough to sign Mercado though

Gutted and surprised! Who saw Udinese winning Serie A in the 2019/20 season??

    20181117132139_1.jpg

Udinese's Antonin Barak seemed like a proper beast on the few earlier saves that I had. Rather prone to injuries though.

  14. Looking for club suggestions guys. I'm putting this here from the other thread :)

    Quote

Preferred league(s): Any level in Europe, but more partial to anything lower than the highest division level for the top 5 leagues

Expectations: Not title contenders if possible

    Finances: Any level will do

Youth/Training Facilities: Any level will do

Notes: I'm looking to build a team using the 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow formation (with attacking full-backs) and planning to made this a club staple throughout this one career save, so any suggestions for teams with no wingers or easily disposable players on those positions will be greatly appreciated. Good level of squad's Work Rate would be an excellent addition.

    Cheers!

Managing Dynamo Dresden, was expecting to finish 10th first season but we defied expectations and got promoted in 2nd place first season.

Had an unreal end to the season winning 6 on the bounce, had it not been for a mid season wobble we'd have won the league.

Same here, they got a bunch of creative flair players to pull of a nice style of football for the standard of the league. Still in October but we're currently at 3rd place with three points difference to Köln at the top.

Somehow the players keep complaining about the lack of depth in midfield though, even when I already have to rotate them all the time just to keep them happy :seagull:
