  1. In my current save I'm playing 4123DM wide. Injuries forced me to play my DC/DM who claim to fame is a BWM. So he got a run in midfield as a job filler as a midfielder - BWM-su. He was brilliant. And still is up in midfield never to return to the backline again. Cause he's got good vision he's a thorn in the opposition's side with never-ending through balls setting up an inside forward or a winger to run onto the ball and tuck it away. He's now my favorite player.
  2. Hi all. "This player can successfully be retrained as a central midfielder." Were I to act on the advice I only know how to select a specific role e.g. Advanced PlayMaker. Can I choose 're-train in CM role' (general - all of 'em)?
  3. I run a similar setup. My knowledge is zilch. However I outsource a of lot coaching consultancy to Coach Google. If you dig enough you'll find the 'skilled FM bloggers' currently tend to lean towards a DLF or CF rather than an F9 this season.
  4. EPL team > young under 23 talent > playing the boys off the firsts bench in the last 30 minutes > Good or not so good for his development to give game time to those who the coach says are 'SkyBet-One' level at present?
  5. Bare with me guys, I'm only a slight notch or two up from a newbie. So far from the above, i'm sticking with 2x IWBs behind two wide attacking wingers. NEXT: A foggy area for me is the DM. I'm quiet partial to 'em and like 'em no matter what role they play. I haven't played FM(17) long enough to know the finer points of each DM role. Yes I can read instruction tags but they all look similar to me apart from the RPM. Cool bloke the DM-RPM but he's all over the pitch like one of those fur-ball doggettes people let off the lease down at the park. I need more time to discern the differences. So can I have a nudge please. In the set-up below can you narrow down for me the best choices for the DM. My team is mid-table-ish Southampton. So perhaps a DM verses 'the big end of town' and another style when it's a fairer match-up. N.B. My Southampton DMs' are both quality players not boring holding players.
  6. Just thinkin' out loud..... (can't test anything atm.) Should the IWB be behind the winger or the RMD?
  7. More on the tactic. Perhaps a pair Raumdeuters rather than attack wingers? Cannot decide on DM style. DLP-de, HB, DMde or an Anchorman? Who's tried what?
  8. Good point. I didn't test both formations 'clinically' with same crew. There's a lot of influences. Depending on who I play dictates mentality etc. So even the same lad isn't likely to play the same way. Still, this is far more fun than downloading a set'n'forget tactic.
  9. Hi all. After doing some research I am rather taken by the Inverted Wing back style of Guidiola. However I'm in FM17 and need input on the attacking wingers. In the 4123 DM wide formation my wingers are excellent wide-attackers. However the videos I've watched point towards a 4141 with attacking midfield wingers. In the 4123 the wingers don't come back as much as I'd like and the 4141 they don't seem to attack the byline as often. Admittedly I'm still a novice at FM but I'm determined to be a hands-on manager and not a tactic downloader. The APs' and the rest seem to play as intended although the holes my IWBs' leave behind are a bit of concern. But its the wingers I am asking about. What are the best PIs to give both formations aggressive attacking wide-wingers yet still double back to chip in in defense? (The striker is now an AF not DLF in pic.)
  10. Young guns in my EPL team > coach says he/they are currently Championship standard. Do I loan them out to ECL teams or bring 'em into my EPL squad now? (Down in my regular haunt, the LLMs this doesn't happen. They generally respond better by at home in the senior squad.)
  11. Perhaps the WBs will move north with a HB keeping house. So you get two for one in midfield + setting one WB to IWB may give you more grunt in MF. I find regular DMs are too conservative. And the HB doesn't hang around the CDs when in possession. He goes looking for a biff & pass up towards the midfield. Dye his hair red and watch his movements during a match.
  12. What about a HalfBack as one DM, giving the WBs more grunt and giving you almost a 3-man CD team and then the Regista can ply his trade further up field with a 'dribbles thru center' PPM.?
  13. CLUB DNA - benchmarks for attributes. Vids & blogs cover briefly Attribute DNA and quote reference points for elite players (EPL etc) but how do I establish what's an acceptable DNA number for Vanarama. The guides mention minimums of 12 or 13 attribute scores. Lucky to have a few blokes with just one attribute that high down in the vanarama leagues.
  14. Pre-season : I find I am not manager of my friendly pre-season games. No involvement in the games. What box do I tick or un-tick to put me back in charge and managing my pre-season friendlies?
  15. Hi all. Is there a way to access and edit an assistant manager's preferred formations?
  16. Page.32 -Bust the Net FM Tactics Handbook - Tactic = Cutthroat 4231. The diagram of players does not match the roles described. GK-d or SK-s? WB-s or WB-a? I am FM17 & so I cannot access the tactic link. Can someone advise plz. (Ignore the passing map. Don't vknow how to delete it)
  17. Trying to adapt FM18 4132 tactic to FM17. Midfield trio - CAR <AM-att> MEZ. what do u suggest for FM17 to replace the CAR + MEZ? 2 x CMs? And set to su-att?
  18. Whenever I read a thread about a tactic or download one of those pre-made tactics the Fullbacks are either set on support or attack or defend. However there is another option - "Automatic". why is it avoided in any discussion? Will my FB/WB act as an inferior player if set to 'auto'?
  19. FM17> Formation 4123 or 4231> What midfield role is best for my on-field general who is my ball distributer in possession? And what player traits suit the role that I can train him to do? I'm thinking switch flank, killer balls often. There is also dictates tempo> if time allows for more training do I add dwells on ball?
  20. Sounds like maybe I am only a few tweaks and shuffles away from recovery. Such a fine hair. However from my experience I've yet to find a complete forward nor a Raumdeuter down in Vanarama. Same goes for an RPM. Tell a Vanarama player his duty is to roam and the only shooting he does is off to the pub. What about changing formation? I've got the lads who can re-group as a 442. What will be the outcome of carrying a 442 as a 2nd tactic with the same team instructions (almost). Will it benefit to have two shapes or a one size fitz-all is the best way?
  21. I'm managing Wrexham in the Vanarama National. It's still early in the season - But we were way clear at the start of the season. But are now in serious free-fall. This week I spent too much time chiding most of my team for bulk downward brown arrows in their training reports. Morale is all shades of poor from one end of the pitch to the other. This is the result of trying to wean myself off my addction to plug'n'play download tactics and so skimmed through a few threads here, and settled on a formation. and Tis etc This week was too much for me, blown away by a twitter-storm.... My Assistant Manager keeps telling me to change to 4-4-2 plus tweaks. Unfortunately I'm still heavily under the influence of TTF9 and the rest of the set'n'forget crowd who say don't touch anything. Just send the lads out onto the pitch and take yourself off to the VIP lounge and sip on a latte and watch the match on the big monitor. Maybe I should resign and sign on as an assistant manager for Newport-Pagnell in the United Counties League Premier Division. If they'll have me. Or ask you guys how do i turn this around?
  22. FM17: Coach advisor for selection of team. My dumbest coach is always the one who seems to be pre-selected and to change him to my smartest coach I have to reset the guide-lines every time. How can I set in stone my #1 coach as the team selector?
  23. My BWM(def) takes the field as my Midfielder (centre right) Now keep in mind I'm a novice manager and until now was a set'n'forget pre-fab tactic enthusiast. Now I'm trying to think on the run without training wheels apart from what I glean of advice from the forum's threads. My BWM (def) functions like a DM but he's tends to dwell towards right of center. Since he is my midfield bulldog do I need to adjust somehow when the opposition's star playmaker is e.g. an AMCR or even an MCR ? A bit out of reach for my bulldog yes?
  24. Seen in an older thread things called widgets. See pic. how do i turn these small side widgets on? I have FM17
