  1. Fitness does matter in this FM, but in 21 this was true, you slap a gegenpress system on any team with the most unfit players possible and they would act like if they were powerhouses. But its not that simple, I use a 4-4-2 where I protect the middle with my life, 2 pressing forwards, one BWM paired with a B2B, sometimes pairing 2 BWM and 2 quick and strong CBs. Sometimes I concede in long balls to the back of my full backs, but thats a risk i'll take

Can You share that tactic to.

And tell us how to use the tactic during the season,if you make any changes when you play strong team or away matches and things like that.

    4-4-2 mp geggen.fmf

Against stronger op. normally the tactic is quite good, it really depends on whats going on on the pitch. If you are getting abused on the wings, switch to the 4-4-2 and drop the inverted wingers into the central midfield line.

Against weaker op. who are very narrow and deep, this 4-4-2 is what i use to break them down

Ok so i know its 2028 but im doing a Youth to Gold and my team is only just making Champions league knockouts to give you an idea of how good the squad is..

plugged this is at the end of December and heres how the following 16 games have gone.

The Boavista game can only be described as a blip giving up 2 late goals.

    Very impressed so far!

Nice result in Anfield, yeah, the tactic makes the team very competitive against strong opposition. Sometimes the flat 4-4-2 is a problem, but I use a flat 4-4-2 as a counter measure for that

Hi, please can you post screen shots of the tactic instructions and player instructions for those who can't download the tactic (I can't currently).  Thanks!  Also, what player do you look for in AF vs PF? Thanks

Always remove the get stuck in during the match. I always start with it to make an initial statement. Cheeky cheeky.

AF - Fast and technical forward, he's going to bull the defenders with the ball, starting off wide to help stretch the defensive line and look for inside runs

PF - Strong, tall, needs all the tools to keep pressing up front and help battle for possession in the middle of the park and even wide. Also a good passing ability, he's a complete forward really

  5. You can guess by the title, I was looking to really hurt my opposition with a good high pressing ability, and the first season using this tactic really was very promising.

It's the second season with my OGC Nice save, the first one I used my 4-2-2-2 with great success too, also finishing with 104 points in League1! but our defensive behaviour, despite not being bad at all, it wasn't the best in the league, both PSG and Monaco conceded less goals and I was looking to be the best side of the league at everything. But not only the best in the league, we became the best.....in Europe.

    The Tactic

The idea behind this 4-3-1-2 actually came from my 3-5-2 High Octane Vertical Football tactic. I started to reshape the team into a 4-4-2 diamond to break from more difficult matches, and it was working, so it gave me the ideia to take the same philosophy of the 3-5-2 and use it in a save where I could test the 4-4-2 diamond, and after that, shaping it into a 4-3-1-2 for better pressing results along the way, took me only the pre season to change that to be honest.

I could do a tactical write up of this one, but instead i made a highlight video with more or less 20 minutes with more interesting plays from a tactical point where you can see clearly the idea behind it.

I'm definitly going to do another season with this tactic as well as use it in others. We improved out defensive numbers, conceding less goals, Around 10 less goals conceded and went from 3rd best defending team to the very best.

The ME's 3D visualization of shooting generally and 1:1 specifically is absolutely crocked and rubbish - it's hard to fathom how they'd release it in that state, but apparently it used to be even worse, so here we are.

Statistically though check your team/league/other leagues and you should see stats that are normal in regard to finishing. The very poor ME rendering of it, is what makes it seem so bad.

99% of the matches my opponents get to score more goals with less chances than I do, win or lose, they always score more goals with less chances, I have to the 20+ shots to get 1 or 2 goals, the AI teams in 5 chances get 2 goals easy

I can't stress enough about plug and play stuff, this is not it, despite the great season i've had with this tactic, it still needed tweaks every now and then during matches, so don't expect to demolish every opponent on sight.

    Notes:

Full Backs are important to provide width, but will also need to cover the entire wing while defending, so they need pace, stamina, strenght can't hurt, good positioning also

Your two midfielders need to be strong in every moment, strong on the ball, strong off the ball, you need two midfielders who can cover the entire pitch, so no "Pirlos", it won't work so well.

Attacking mids with good pace, dribbling, passing ability and finishing (they will scoring a lot of goals as well as assisting)

Pressing Forward speaks for itself, the role I mean, so, strenght, tall, good pace can't hurt, passing ability, heading, finishing of course.

Striker needs to be fast, irreverent, he will be also a creative mind upfront

    Nice analysis!
I would never go to AM-A to replicate Jorge Jesus wide players, but it can surely works and the positions your players are taking on the pitch seems about right so great job.
What stats are yours AM-A getting?

Yeah, in reality they would be more like IWs or a trio of CMs in front of the DM, like he did at Sporting with Ruiz, Adrien, Joao Mario and William. In Flamengo I checked the Sofascore app to see the average position map and in some matches he did use the box

My starting AMs have both 17 assists

  9. Context:

It started as a save to replicate Jorge Jesus's 4-4-2/4-2-2-2 in Flamengo, but ended up giving it my own nuances. Now, Jesus was always a huge influence in my philosophy and still went for the same verticallity mainly by completely dominating the central area, to launch quick attacks and get to the opponents half in a few touches. Off the ball, always looking to press high and flood the area where the ball is at.

    image.png.0fe92895645b9345c5c3e4b4d44d8949.pngimage.png.435892ac42b305eb1abb98cf56cc96eb.png

These are the two setups I ended settling with. In FM22 I'm really enjoying the ability that Attacking Mids are giving to attack and control the half spaces, they go wide, the go narrow, always seeking space and looking to create numerical superiority wide and middle.

    On the ball:

    image.jpeg.525211bad0a2f0606063139f39c91324.jpeg

This is one of the ways the team starts the build up, in a 3-5-2 shape, with one my midfielders tucking in between the CDs. The Full backs pushing up and the 2 attacking mids forming a trio with the central midfielder, creating superiority in the middle, always giving passing options.

    image.jpeg.95bedfe26c23674d54de5aea4039b4bb.jpeg

Against 4-4-2s I always make the team build with 3 on the back, with the Second Volante pushing a bit up or a bit wide, the ideia is always to have a 3vs2 building up, the LCB is driving the ball forward, leaving his position in defense, so my 2 midfielders create alongside him a 3 man line with my 2 attacking midfielders already waiting in those half spaces.

    image.jpeg.d322a1f212252e9e609a979fd3178326.jpeg

This is another way to build up play, in a clear 4-2-2-2 shape. Normally i intend to box my opposition's midfield of 3 with 4 players and find a way to be able to dominate the central area so i can move the ball quick and vertically.

    image.jpeg.57155384587e7dd99b8f294653a97265.jpeg

This is one of many examples I could give on how complete the attacking midfielders are looking this year. In this build up, my right full back is really high up on the pitch, so my right attacking midfielder does something that seems meaningless but yet, a great touch, going wide closer to the defensive line clearly offering a passing lane for the CB, allowing the team to maintain someone wide during the build up.

    image.jpeg.66fb57e35a461ff2b61974fea5f7d4a8.jpeg

And of course those 4 attacking units and how they are setup, promote positional switches. In this example, Delort, who usually comes deeper to collect the ball, creating a triangle in the midfield with my volante and tight attacking midfielder while my striker and left attacking midfielder are already looking for through balls.

    Off the Ball

The ideia here is simple. Push up on the press, have individual references while pressing, and live with the risks we might take.

    image.jpeg.58503cfdce7aeb4b2f068f673804d201.jpeg

A pressing trigger is activated with a back pass to the opposition defender then to the GK, sending my team up to press and really tight mark that defensive line.

    image.png.92351a9976f15fb2d157eb8aa47a2fd0.png

Again, a pressing trigger with opponent on his back to the goal, sending my team up to squeeze that build up and force them to a long ball or a mistake.

    image.png.796b84056bef2cac3e9be526b0c4fce1.png

When the ball is wide, the team presses as a block towards that side of the pitch, putting a lot of players around that ball, creating numerical superiority, to win the ball and have a lot of options right there to counter. Counter pressing yay...

    image.jpeg.15a2cc5c2a02984cd728e1a797e03fce.jpeg

Sometimes teams who play in a 4-3-3 rely a lot on the defensive midfielder to start their build up, so I instruct my pressing forward to stay with that midfielder, instead of pressing high, we take a different approach here, more focused on closing down passing lanes in a normal pressing block.

  10. is it me or every team i play against who uses 442 classic is too OP? even lower league teams who play a 442 flat, of course i dont have trouble beating them, but they are able to maintain possession and create more chances than usual. Made several tests with very different tactics. Seems like it's too OP this year, just like the classic 4231 gegenpressing, but that i can counter with a strikerless tactic, the 442 it's still a headscratcher to me
