[Predictable games. Long ball galore, comical mistakes, useless defenders, overpowered headers, poor passing and ball control/ first touch]

I agree entirely, long/through balls especially are just completely unrealistic and result in predictable chance/goal after predictable chance/goal. Makes no difference what tactic you use or which players you use either. FM23 as a whole is a game I'm enjoying, but the match engine in the beta is so much worse than FM22 it's unbelievable.

[VAR never reverses a penalty decision]

That's bizarre, I've experienced goals being overturned and given in fairly equal measure, but never seen a VAR check overturn a penalty. How interesting though, I wonder if there's anyone who's seen a mix or if we're all somehow destined to experience one or another? 😂

I couldn't scan through and find every single instance of this happening but I tried to find a few games where I noticed it on multiple occasions. Obviously things like this do happen in football, including at the top level. I just thought that it happens more than it should, particularly where CB reactions are just a bit too slow for my liking (or where they even run away from the threat in a couple of instances.)

UPDATE: This initial issue appears to have fixed itself upon the start of the second half, but the long club names are still showing as part of the licensed scoreboard.
