I tweaked my 4231DM after reading ur posts, but remained with Control mentality. So I'd be intereated to see how you'd adjust if it's in a higher mentality.

Year after year, it's better.
In order, I will do all new countries for South America and Europe then best countries in Asia, North America, Africa and Oceania.
Then , in a 2nd time, I will do rest of Asia, North America, Africa and Oceania
Finally, I will do International/Continental competitons (with new Concacaf league if I can), then I will add leagues on existing countries.
Objectif: about 230-240 updates

In the editor, I put affiliation "club B" between them.
But it changes nothing, you can still control the B team because in the editor, it is 2 separate teams with just an affiliation "club A/club B"

Had a look at the Australian NPL database. The club called "Melbourne Victory (NPL)" playing in the NPL Victoria is the 'B' team to Melbourne Victory FC in the A-league, and so should not be manageable as a club by itself. I found the NPL side available when started the database with the "Prevent teams which already have managers to be controlled" ticked. I reckon you might need to do the same to other NPL sides which are B teams to A-league sides.

Are there any particularly desirable stats or PPMs for the defensive midfielder? Or any other tactical tweaks that make him more effective? As far as I'm aware, the pivot is the most important player in these kind of systems for recycling possession and building attacks, so what kind of player is most suitable?
The DM in Cleon's post is a DM on support dury. He is not a pivot. He moves forward into midfield regularly.
But if u want him to hold up, u can always use the Hold Position PI.

Changes to 03/03/2017:

I remember it was discussed in the forums here, but still got confused:
Does hving a higher D Line increases closing down as well?
Or is it the other way round: Increasing the closing down pushes the D line higher?
I remember one of them is not true and that it is a glitch in the TI screen.

TIs : close down more, stay on feet, whipped crosses, shorter passing, run at defense.
Attacking / Fluid
U might have ur CF isolated at times. I suggest that u use CF(s) or DLF(s). With ur current Attacking Metality, these 2 support duty striker roles are still very attacking even without actually having Attack duty. With a support duty, he'll link up better with ur IFs. Besides, ur IFs will hv more vacated space to run into if ur striker uses one of those 2 roles.

Fantastic stuff !!! I am using Control mentality and it really has very similar issues with your attacking mentality problems.
Believe it or not, like wat Jessan asked regarding you swicthing your right winger from Winger to IF, i actually did the exact same thing. I am interested to know if it's because with the WB(a) behind him, you feel u need someone to create space for the WB(a) to run into? That was my reason. Because they often times found themselves very close to each other.
