  1. Ok now at a stagnation point I think. I've won the CL twice in a row with Tre Penne, still only in a 12k-ish capacity stadium, my board are very frustrating, but not really making any progress in terms of league rep or coefficient. Pretty much stuck in 12th place in the UEFA coefficients and 15th in terms of league reputation, I think it's the teams behind me holding me back.

So new plan, once I achieve 5* facilities everywhere with Tre Penne (hopefully in the next season), I'll take over another team in the league and try to drag them up too. Could be interesting.

  2. So I thought I'd provide a little update on my career so far as I enter the summer of 2040. I'll start off with the national team.

San Marino national team and league

So this has gone generally okay. Nothing mindblowing in terms of qualification but we're sat solidly as a Nations League Division C team, and sat in 138th in the FIFA rankings, 1 below our all-time high. Unfortunately youth player generation has been a bit slower than I'd hoped, but it's still really good progress 17 years into the game.

As for the league itself, we've moved up to being the 26th most reputable league in the world, above the second tiers of Spain and France, but still below Serie B, Championship and 2. Bundesliga. Hitting the 3* reputation bracket there will hopefully help a little bit.

And as for the teams in the league, we as a team only just broke into the 3* reputation rating bracket. Which is odd considering we were basically level with La Fiorita for quite some time, who as far as I can tell have never successfully made it through a single round in Europe, though admittedly their entry point has improved as our coefficient rating has.

    Tre Penne

So this is where it gets interesting. Naturally we have dominated the league nigh on year-on-year, mostly winning with 100% win records. That said, we lost in the final of the most recent Coppa Titano and Super Coppa Sammarinese, so maybe it shows the rest of the league is improving.

From a facilities point of view, I'm finally in the process of obtaining a 3* youth facility, still not great but it's getting there. Everything else is maxxed out, and we have a new-ish 12.5k capacity stadium with 9k seats.

    Tre Penne in Europe

But what's really interesting is our performance in Europe. We have consistently made it to the group stages of the CL with relatively little trouble, but after a couple of years of then failing to make it to the next round, our coefficient dropped a fair bit. Up until this point, that had been our best performance in Europe.

Then out of nowhere, this season has been a complete freak one. Against all the odds we made it to the CL semi-final, losing the first leg 2-1 to Inter and having to travel away. Then, what I can only describe as a freak result that I've never seen before, we won 4-0 and made it to the actual final of the Champions League.

By pure coincidence, that final happened to be my 1,000th game in management in this save, where we ultimately lost to Liverpool, but it has really, really helped our European ratings, which in turn will help improve the league.

So we now find ourselves in 20th place, which I anticipate improving in the next few years as long as I can consistently make it out of the group stage of the CL, which I think/hope is achievable now.

Looking at the numbers there, I'd like to think we can break into the top 15, which would give us 5 places in Europe, and distribute a bit more money around the league:

And then final screenshot, just Tre Penne sitting in 22nd, above PSG and just behind Man Utd in the European club coefficients :D.

I must admit, this is a bit of an unusual save, not playing too many games, instant resulting a lot and just really trying to optimise the finances we've got and doing the best at a club with a relatively poor reputation. But it's quite fun and the novelty hasn't worn off yet, really intrigued to see how far the Sammarinese league can really go, and hopefully in turn, the national team.

I did 10 years at Cosmos and after 5 seasons I started to produce at least one "good player" (for the San Marinese standard) per season. Even produced a proper wunderkid at one point. Around that time, San Marino Academy also was producing useful players for the national team. Then I moved to Victor San Marino and at that point for a few seasons, Cosmos started to produce a major player every season.

I'm now 10 years in at Victor and I'm starting to produce decent level players.

Okay interesting, how good were your facilities at that point?

I have maxed out training, youth recruitment and junior coaching, with 2.5* youth facilities now and some brilliant youth coaches, but just nothing coming through. Even reached the Round of 16 in the CL with Tre Penne this season - really frustrating.

  4. Yep I'm now over a decade in with Tre Penne and I must admit it's getting a little stale...

I've previously had success with the San Marino challenge by taking over San Marino Calcio in the Italian leagues and having a super long-term save with them. Decent San Marino regens came through and all was fine.

The issue here is that I'm yet to have a decent Sammarinese regen come through at all in over 10 years, and that's despite upping the youth recruitment and junior coaching to the max. I'm now in the CL group stages every year, and have made the knockouts once, so the club is in good health with perfect training facilities and a ton of money (although still only 2* youth facilities). But I wonder if there is just an inherent in-game feature meaning you will never get a decent Sammarinese regen through in the Sammarinese league, no matter how good your youth recruitment/coaching and youth coaches are.

    Has anyone found any different?

    Hello,

Are there people than can upgrade the youth facilities because after one update i cannot update anymore for 5 years.

How many years do i wait to update?

I have everything excellent but i cannot upgrade the youth facilities only the senior facilities

Are there more peeple that have that problem?

Yeah I'm having the same problem with Tre Penne, can't get above half a star youth facilities even though training, junior coaching and youth recruitment are all really good.

  6. Question here for you guys then. Has the World Cup enhanced or diminished Qatar's reputation?

At the beginning we were told it would highlight their issues, and it felt pretty negative with the poor fan zones, the poor treatment of journalists, and of course the obvious about workers rights. But now, at least from here, it feels that there is a turning point and people are seeing past that because the football has been great. Certainly the narrative in the media has changed, with the usual tabloid suspects suddenly incredibly quiet on the realities of the workers abuses and being hugely positive now over the entire tournament.

Personally, I really don't think that's a good thing, I think long-term it could be very damaging for us, but I'm interested to hear how others perceive it, particularly being in different parts of the world.

  7. I've watched a few, almost entirely England games but also the odd game.

The football itself has been really decent, can't knock that at all, but aside from that it still hasn't felt full 'World Cup' for me. Didn't feel nearly as gutted at going out to France as I might have done at other tournaments, which says a lot in itself really. Not sure if that's partly due to the stupid kick off times over here or if it is some sort of mental block at it being in Qatar, but I'll take it regardless.

  8. Reckon outside of the home nations, it's got to be up there hasn't it? Alongside Germany and Argentina?

Was watching it in Melbourne yesterday and even at stupid o'clock in the morning there were a bunch of anti-French songs being sung constantly :D. 6am start on a Sunday for us, almost verging on all-nighter territory but will be sensible and go for the 5.30am alarm

  9. Depends. If he does raise awareness, and consistently and regularly bring the issues to appropriate attention, then there is a fair argument to be had that it's better he's there than some other pundit who doesn't mention a thing.

Hope he donates all the money he makes to some appropriate charity though.

Dunno, "no denying that we should all be avoiding this" sounds a bit preachy.

Alright, why not go ahead and tell me what I meant seeing as you know better than me .

I'm not personally comfortable going to a place built pretty much on slavery so recently, but fair play to those who are. But the fact is, if I or others have that stance, I'd like to know how others justify it before I go ahead and make myself a hypocrite. And as you say, in some cases it's actually hard to distinguish between watching this and watching the EPL. You've made points I absolutely agree with, particularly noting Newcastle fans reacted and behaved post-takeover, so I'm not sure it's 'preachy' whatsoever to want to gather other's opinions (who are usually far more clever than mine!) and make a call from that. If anything it's the absolute opposite.

The only thing I'd disagree with is that any kind of protest is 'performative'. People don't tend to protest for bantz.

God, yeah. Judge me if you like but I’ve got enough stress in my life already without turning off the TV for the sports event that I most look forward to. Staging my own one-man protest on the sofa that nobody else can see.

Do I think it should have been moved from Qatar? Yes. Would I personally fly over there and buy tickets? No. But if UEFA aren’t boycotting and national teams aren’t boycotting then I’m not cutting my nose off to spite my face.

The post wasn't meant to be judgmental in any way btw, just intrigued to hear others thoughts.

  12. Completely agree. Like most of us I like to consider myself quite a 'moral' person, I try to do the right thing, but I'm completely undecided on this.

There's no denying that we should all be avoiding this, but then is it possible to watch the tournament without contributing in some way to Qatar, even if only by paying with your attention? It's going to be a tricky one this.

For someone who did it have any interest I had a great day. Went out for a drive (roads were empty) then for a long walk along the beach. It was quieter than normal as expected but there were still plenty of people out who had decided to make the most of the day (the nice weather helped).

One cafe was open on the seafront and the owner had posted online apologising if anyone was offended that they were open, but said she couldn’t afford to lose a day’s trade. Seemed to be a good plan as people were queuing out the door due to everywhere else being shut.

Picked up some pizzas on the way home, although had to wait a while as they were really busy due to being the only place open. Cut the grass on the afternoon.

Tried to see if we could get some petrol but even the self-serve pumps were closed. My wife went to Asda later on for petrol and some bread and milk and said it was bedlam, as if it had been closed for weeks.

Watched a movie in the evening and finally turned on the TV for the first time after 9pm. The only reference to their funeral was both Film4 and the Horror Channel having a tribute page instead of adverts.

I know loads of people online were moaning about it being shoved down your throat but it was easily avoidable if you didn’t want to watch anything.  I certainly appreciated the day off.

That actually sounds pretty great. Glad you had a good time, there will have been things about if you’re not after just a pub. Obviously doesn’t really apply to those who wanted to watch the funeral ofc

  14. Now that's over, it's been kind of fascinating. Not in a callous way, but I remember over the years people joking semi-excitedly about the extra Bank Holiday that we will have when the Queen does go. But now it's happened, pretty much everything being shut, nearly every TV channel showing the funeral - for those not so interested in the royals I'm not sure it quite lived up to the 'hype'. I'm pretty intrigued to know what people thought of it, from all points of view re: the royals.

Here in Victoria, they've made the public holiday on the Thursday rather than the Monday, the day before another public holiday we already have for the AFL Final. 4-day weekend - for those not so into the royals, it couldn't really have fallen any better .

The mourning isn't "forced" onto anyone. However heavy handed the police have been in some settings they won't be coming round to check you are watching the funeral on Monday or arresting you are having a laugh with your mates on the street.

As people who moan about women's football or LGBT inclusive programmes get told, if you don't like it you can watch something else on YouTube and watch anti-
    monarchy arguments if you like.

When was the last time women's football took over the exclusive 100% attention of all football coverage?

Oi, don't tar all geriatrics with the same brush.

The worst over reactions aren't those moaning about the whole ceremonial pomp, it's the nonsensical reaction from the businesses and organisations (which to remake yesterday's round and round the houses, you can't blame the Royals for).

And absolutely agree, having been through the nightmare that is cancer care, I can't imagine my reaction if we were told a week in advance that potentially life extending treatments were delayed or cancelled because someone wanted to watch a funeral.

I'd probably create a few more funerals tbh.

Yeah I should add that I don't actually think all old people are like this . Just the ones who tend to complain about snowflakes and lazy young'uns...
