  1. I did exactly the same thing of aiming to finish my 2019 save and stop playing that 2 weeks before I anticipated the beta...so I'm having a couple weeks longer cold turkey than I was prepared to handle! I've kind of appreciated it though- my house has never been tidier and I've alphabetised my bookcase. Never been so on top of things.
  2. This guy from fm2019 is my favourite newgen ever. On first glance it might not look amazing in terms of stats...but that's 167 league goals for my club as a 'keeper. I bought him for 2.5 mil from Brazil as an 18 year old on a bit of a punt. I noticed his freekicks were already 13 and penalties were like 10. I put him on a personal training thing which was very freekick-focused and at his peak that rating was 17- his penalties never made it above 12- but he was taker for both for his entire career for me. He scored in every single league season- and on two occasions scored 16 league goals. What's mad is that his GK stats were incredible too- he so dominant at collecting stuff in the air and the perfect sweeper keeper in the ball. He spent 18 months as my cup keeper- but by the age of 20 he was my number one and by the age of 22 he was club captain. He was a player at the club for 22 years- went on to break the appearance record and won the GK of the year in the world every year from 2025 to 2035. What's great is then he had a bit of a dip and it seemed like he was on the decline, but then had a resurgence and won it again in 2038. In his final season his physical stats had dropped too much to be my no.1 in goal- but I still gave him time at number 10 in the cups and CL group games and he scored his first few goals from completely open play (he'd scored rebounds from penalties/freekicks before.) Then when he retired he stepped straight into being my assistant manager- he was the best coach I'd ever had. He did that for 5 years and I was a bit gutted when Sheffield united stole him as manager- but he got them promoted in his first season with them too...
  3. I'm finding the last couple of updates have dramatically changed the match engine I was unbeaten for 2 season and the update coincided with the first gam of a new season- lost all the first five games having changed nothing about the set up and personel.
  4. I am certainly looking forwards to the release- perfectly happy with the announcements. I'm just a bit gutted the game is released a week later than last year- it means I don't have the beta for half term this week! This probably sounds more like I am a student as opposed to a teacher....hmmm
  5. steam tells me... FM09- 732 FM10- 1469 FM11- 1110 FM12- 1657 FM13- 625 FM14- 854
  6. I've got a newgen keeper who is my second choice free kick taker. his freekick's were 12 as an 18 year old...but I...almost certainly stupidly...gave him the specific focus of freekicks for about 5 years. He's 33 now and his freekicks are on 16 and he has about a dozen goals for me...and never caused one from it going wrong- the system does track them it is just not viewable on their default stats history- I always just read the biography as it is one of the first things it says. I've often wondered- because you do get the odd newgen keeper who is great at freekicks (rightly rarely but it happens) But you point blank never get a newgen keeper that has good penalty stats, I've seen more keepers on penalties than freekicks if anything- the risk is much lower as the conversion rate is much higher.
  7. spirals of bad form/morale do seem to be difficult to get out of. Although that isn't what the OP's problem was. My morale solution seems to be plough through with the bad form until you see a run of 3 or 4 easy games...then go all in for team meetings and private chats with players...then just go at it with your absolute strongest 11
  8. I experimented with this...in my first save I tried- I got arsenal banned from Europe for breaking FFP by signing neymar with some ridiculous add-ons to the transfer deal, On a different save I was heading to just miss out on the FFP and the board did bail me out ... but what the board can do is limited like it is in real life
  9. I am over my meltdown from yesterday...it took me 24 hours to figure out I needed to change my wing backs to fullbacks and drop a striker back into midfield whilst increasing the pressing and playing a higher line... now I am fine again..playing better football than before ...but......those ...dozen or so games could easily see me out of the title race....that is why it is annoying It would be great if there was some warning as to when the patches were going to come out so I could try to synch it with the start of a new season and play lots of friendlies....
  10. the idea that 'real tactics' are immune to ME changes and only 'bug exploiting' tactics will get found out by a changing in the ME is a nonsense. FM is one reality...which bits are and are not similar to real life are not separate entities...
  11. that's not about tactical systems being solid...a solid tactical system is one that does well against the match engine ..if it also does well against another match engine...that is a different issue. I really feel there is some value in saying "look here is your game...have it"...then that is my reality to play in and my world that Ithat corre have to conquer...flaws and all long term saves are being completely derided by this patching...and I think that is a way a lot of people play this game... it causes these regular and wildly unrealistic peaks and troughs in form that correlate with the new rules for reality that is enforced on us. And that is quite annoying when the day before I had invested 10 hours into tweaking my system and spent all by budget on the super wing-back...and now suddenly...the way play manifest on the pitch doesn't vaguely resemble how it looked or the results it produced. patches should go back to being optional....you keep downloading them until you are satisfied...then that's you..... I cant keep playing if I know the rug is going to be pulled from my feet every fortnight...what is the point in investing time and effort in setting up stuff now that will be no use to me in a fortnight.... a bad match engine is better than one that changes this often.
  12. I am getting slightly frustrated. I am having to restart my whole saves every time a patch is released. The tactical/match engine stuff being saved game compatible means you are playing a new game every time you are unexpectedly forced to use the next patch. I really enjoy doing long saves from October until the next game comes out but it is impossible- such significant changes are being made- not once has my existing tactical set up been viable moving from one patch to the next. And there has been so many...this is already the fifth update in a month and a half. I cant get any consistency- it is besides the point that the match engines are improving- the rules of the game are changing without warning. it took me ages to get used to the last patch- but I did...I had consecutive league and champions league wins with a great effective and attractive system. I spent loads of money to buy a squad for this tactical set up which made the most of this match engine and it just plain doesn't work any more ...so i'm going to have to drive this save into the abyss trying to get used to it and this champions league winnign super team just suddenly stop performing- everything starts spiralling with results and moral and job security...and there is nothing I could have done....working in the save I cant go from instantly being an expert in one match engine to the next without having used it. It obliterates all the realism...this constant desire to make the game more real.....but reality doesn't work like that... and i don't like starting a thousand different saves...i lose all affection for the teams....it feels like a computer game i am restarting to play when i am bored as opposed to my alternate reality i am immersed in for hours on end.
  13. I have a fully updated game with a large database and all the major European leagues loaded but half these players are not in my save... I've tried saves with a variety of different English clubs and the databases are lacking the same players...strange
  14. I was having all kinds of problems with the ME/ratings stuff in the end I decided that basically the game is always about exploiting the ME to get the best out of it...so I'm doen with full backs or wing backs...3CBs and defensive wide midfielders....everything is going fine ...ratings are higher so morale is higher so performances are better so results are better so ratings are higher and so on...it's a cycle of success that is reversed if you play with full backs or wing backs in this ME.
  15. i'm finding the full version a lot less playable than the beta transfer values are really weird which didn't come up too much in the demo for me but mainly this issue with the fullbacks where their slight over-rating has been slaughtered and now come out of every game with appalling ratings i'm also finding it much more difficutl to get positive reactions from teamtalks or keep moral up in any way- again wasn't an issue for me in the demo some of this might be coincidences....but I sailed through my beta games and just finding my new save on the full version very frustrating
  16. I downloaded this out of curiosity as i'd never used an in game editor before looks a neat little addition- created a fantasy team for a bit of fun- but I wont use it in my main save. my suggestion would be to add a tick box to disable it at the start of a game set up. Because as good as I think I am- and I out grew my rage-quitting phase of '09 and am now pretty much a down-the-line player. I don't really want the temptation staring at me at every single screen. the amount of times I've just wanted to tweak my transfer budget by a couple of million to make me get that last transfer- gonna take all my restraint!
  17. this happened to me- all your saved games are still where you saved them, you just need to go get them via 'load game'
  18. since the update earlier today I have had 2 crashes- I had no crashes at all before that since first downloading the beta. I rather uselessly don't have any more of the info but thought i'd bring it up...if it happens again i'll post it in the bugs thing
  19. I don't cheat but eventually you learn how to exploit the match engine you make more of the transfer market, and can make your budget go further, than the AI managers so in a way...I suppose if you are just patient and stick at it....that s the ultimate cheat
  20. am enjoying the beta...haven't read through much so apologise if I am bringing up issues the player ratings seem a bit off at the moment...my centre halves and full backs are regularly getting 8/9 out of 10 in matches in which they do absolutely nothing of note. But my offensive players struggle to get those figures ...regularly games in which they get goals and assists- they are ending the game with about a 7.2 I think the defensive positioning could do with a bit of tweaking as well- I have some very intelligent defenders just standing in mental places are get cut up easy on the counter The only other issue I noticed- although there are plenty of goals- I don’t know if they are all coming from the right places- i'm finding whereas I score from set pieces every match- the shooting is wildly inaccurate in one on ones and whatnots both for and against me...half way through my second season and I've never had my striker score a one on one and it hardly ever happens against me. I did think that maybe the game was just underrating giroud- so I went all out for ballotelli, and apart from him rather predictably being a right moody turd, he’s dong no better in those kind of chances. I’m also hitting the crossbar every single match- often from mis-hit crosses I really like the adjustments to the transfers and contracts…and as it stands I’m not missing the sliders as much as I thought I would! I like the concept- although it will take me a while to get used to the instructions- at the moment I am really only having a subtle impact on the style of play- and whereas in the past I’ve gone “high line, high tempo, high pressing, attack attack attack”…I haven’t quite got the equivalent sorted on here yet- the changed I make manifest more subtley on the pitch- which might be more realistic…or it might just be a case of me not 100% figuring it out yet.
  21. That's a good point. The only way I think I've ever seen keepers get booked is from handling the ball outside the area when the slide out
  22. yeah I have often succumbed to the temptation of fielding a teams of youngsters in situations like this. but it is super risky...you lose momentum/form...first choice players lose match fitness and rhythm ...losses can change moral...and then you go into the final and the first 11 just cant pick up where thye left off. I think heavy rotation is the best idea- never field a side for the sake of it that dotn stand a great chance of winning.
  23. some aspects of contracts are unrealistic On my arsenal save I signed a messi-esque newgen about 25 years in the future at arsenal and had to offer him 325K per week, even with that he would only sign on with huge bonuses, and crucially, a 50% yearly wage rise. Obviously this was unmaintainable for me- luckily 6 months later he agreed to renew his contract at 350K per week without any yearly wage rise- which was very good/stupid of him! Because otherwise i'd be paying him over 2 mil a week by the end of his contract....
  24. With FM12 I got on well with a 70 year multi club/level/nation career- moving onto new challenges after 20 or so years at each club! I'm in my 10th or so season with arsenal in fm13 and I've already destroyed the footballing world by creating an omnipotent superpower that smashes through all opposition. I have all 7 of the top 7 rated players in the world at the club, the rest of the top 10 are players who have been at the club and I sold them. If I want to buy the next best player in the world I just can....I can just pay a £200million transfer fee and it wont have a catastrophic impact on the club finances. I think I want to win 10 consecutive leagues and at least one 'septruple'...which I haven't done yet, but I'll move on soon. I think the rule is if you find it easy and you like it, good. If you find it easy and that frustrates you, it is a good idea to move on within the same save/reality. With fm12 I twice did bottom of bss to premier league winners with 2 different clubs, then I went abroad. The fact that that is possible does suggest that it is too easy, but you can create challenges for you in-game when it gets too comfortable. ...I would welcome it being harder, I don't know if that will come over time...I think a less predictable/simply manipulated match engine would help and fm has got close to that in the past. It is mainly how poor AI is in the transfer market that does them in though- they just don't build the kind of squads players can.
  25. with the last couple of FMs I have found it the same- takes a few seasons to get used to the ME/tactics/training and to take full advantage of the transfer market whilst AI does not. then from that point on it is pretty much plain sailing- not winning every game of every comp- but still pretty much dominating. And that is whether in the lower leagues or at elite level.
